Cowboys going after Seahawks' Josh Brown? (1 Viewer)

The speculation has been focused primarily on Vinatieri and Vanderjagt, however...

Plus, the Cowboys may be preparing to make a run at Seattle's restricted free-agent kicker, Josh Brown, and the Seahawks think another signed offer sheet could be coming their way again soon. Makes sense, too. The Cowboys have needed a kicker and Seattle has lost some restricted free agents in the past. The Seahawks' previous kicker, Rian Lindell, signed with Buffalo as a restricted free agent before Brown replaced him.

This would make a lot of sense. Jerry Jones has stated that Dallas wants to sign a vet kicker but not necessarily be the market leader. Given that Vinatieri and Vanderjerk are the only decent FA kickers now, and they will be "market leaders", signing a very good, but not top end Josh Brown, fits the "Bill" perfectly.

The Seahawks one-year RFA offer to Brown is for $712,000.

Draft compensation to Seattle would be a 7th rounder, which is where they drafted Brown in 2003.

If Green Bay was not going after Vin, I was wanting to see them go after Brown...and at this point in their careers, I think I may prefer Brown as an overall kicker. Though, the misses in the SB did not help him...

Wow, that's nothing. I prefer Vinitieri but Brown is one of the best young kickers in the game.

Seahawks can still match but Dallas will probably poison pill the contract to pile on.Maybe something like:

"If Josh Brown plays in one regular season game with a bird on his helmet he becomes the league's highest paid kicker."

Honestly I think Dallas would have to make him a very fat offer. He is young, he has a live leg, and he can hit the pressure kick.

Young - checkLive Leg - check

Pressure Kick - :X

Missed an OT game-winner vs. Washington and gagged in the SB on a couple of kicks. I like him and have had him on my team the last 2 years, but I don't consider him a "pressure kicker." Actually, after Vinatieri these days I don't know if anyone is.

You list his misses, why don't you also list his game winning kicks?

Exactly. Plus the Washington kick was in regulation. He certatinly beat the Giants last year didn't he....

Anybody talking about his missed kicks in the Super Bowl are idiots. Both kicks were over 50 yards.

However, I do remember him kicking a 56 yarder at the end of the half against Dallas, and then later hitting a game winning 50 yarder as time ran out. Both were in the rain at sea level.

I think it would be tough to pry him from Seattle. Kickers don't make big money so I think it would be hard to come up with a deal that Seattle won't match. He's a solid young kicker and I can't imagine Seattle not wanting to keep for the long term. To have Seattle not match they'll really need to put up some good money (as far as kickers are concerned) and that seems to be what the Cowboys are trying to avoid as far as this position is concerned.

Correct me if Im wrong, but didnt Brown miss a bunch of FGs in the Dallas game? Doesnt mean anything, just popped into my head.

By the way, as a Cowboys fan, I am extremely satisfied by this news. The kicking game cost us the playoffs, and possibly a chance at the Super Bowl (with a somewhat decent kicking game, the Cowboys would have been the only team to beat Seattle on the road, and they also beat Carolina on the road). I would take Brown, Mare, Vinatieri, or Vanderjagt. Brown is the youngest of those four, so I really like this news.

Misses were from 50 adn 54...in a dome.Sure they were longer...but do not just say he hits the pressure kick...he has missed several pressure kicks the last 2 seasons.

Update:

Kicker Josh Brown, one of the Seahawks' restricted free agents, has been contacted by the Cowboys but has yet to visit with them. If Brown is signed to an offer sheet, the Seahawks would have the right to match or receive a seventh-round draft pick.
