Cowboys Release Terry Glenn (1 Viewer)

Andy Herron

Footballguy
This just broke from training camp. I'll offer up a link when one is available.

Jerry Jones announced that the Cowboys will waive Terry Glenn. They are not closing the door on the possibility that he will rejoin the team down the road, but they don't want to risk him re-injuring the knee while rehabbing on their dime. Glenn will also be free to sign with another team.

Cincinnati?

Cleveland?

Miami?

Anybody else?

ETA: I mention the Ohio teams because Glenn is an Ohio State alum and still lives in Columbus.

can he pass a physical?
If he couldn't pass a physical, even the Cowboys could not have had him practice. Was there talk of him being kept off the field by a doctor or only by demand of Jones for fear of reinjury?
Word had it that if he had indeed agreed to the injury settlement, they would have likely started him out on PUP as it was (for training camp). After an entire year of rehabbing that knee, you can see how little promise he would have brought. As I said in the Cowboys thread back in January, I didn't think it was likely he could return. It was a pipedream for the most part.He can run, mind you, but that knee could go at any given moment.

I understand where you're coming from Hoss, but Jerry's got a soft spot for some of his players of which Terry Glenn has always been one. He brought alot of good production to the team over the years, works hard, is dedicated, and a good locker room presence. I think Jerry just wanted to give him every opportunity to get back physically.

Let's see...

Jerry Porter has a bad hammy

Matt Jones has a drug charge

Mike Walker has a bad knee

Why not add Glenn?

bump for crayton? or more for hurd?
Hi DR,We already had Crayton as the #2 guy. He benefits most I think. Then Hurd to be #3 I think.

And I can see Miami.

Jones showed them who was boss when Glenn challenged him a tiny bit back in June. He immediately backed off and groveled but the damage had been done. He got to twist in the wind a bit as Jones stuck his chest out effectively saying "Not only will you sign the waiver Terry, you'll be thrilled to sign the waiver. And then maybe I won't even let you sign the waiver if you want to." Classic.

Miami would be a great fit for Glenn. Miami needs some veteran help and Glenn fits the bill perfectly having a history with Parcells and such.....but is he healthy???

Now I'm getting excited as a Dallas fan. I felt like keeping Glenn would be holding back Crayton, Hurd, Austin and even Stanback in no particular order. Nothing against Glenn but you must allow the young guys to play at this point knowing Glenn's age and injury status.

I tried trading Crayton in a Dynasty league I am in with a roster of 30. Couldn't get a 2nd round rookie pick for him from anybody. I do feel better now.

I could see Miami if they were not in a rebuilding mode. Glenn offers them nothing next year even if healthy; they'll still be bad. They won't take the plays away from the young guys and slow their development.

Crayton is a thought to be a limited upside player. During the season when bye weeks and short term injuries hit you will be able to make the Crayton for a 2nd rounder every day and twice on Sunday. On Glenn, he is a 34 year old player whose game is built largely on straightline speed with a knee that's probably not (nor will it ever be)100% and that may need more surgery (rumor) for him to be able to walk normally when he is 45. Not sure if he has value anywhere except for a playoff/superbowl contender trying to coax a few weeks out of Glenn's body when injuries hit.

somebody fill me in on the sign this injury waiver BS

don't the NFL teams have insurance on all of their big money players?

meaning season ending injury = an insurance company footing the bill?

or has Glenn become one of the uninsurable ones and thus solely on JJ's pocket to pay Glenn if hurt?

I can't believe it hasn't happened before now.

In other words... the complete opposite of what he was in NE. Terry Glenn (IMO) had HOF talent when he entered the league. Too bad he never lived up to his potential.

I wouldn't go that far.I think alot of things got overblown in NE for whatever reason. Parcells was his coach there, and thought enough of him to bring him to Dallas. A "Parcells guy," as they say, and he did set the record for receptions as a rookie (90. Boldin broke it in 2003 with 101). I wouldn't say he never lived up to his potential. Injuries was his biggest downfall, but when he was on the field he certainly delivered. If you had HOF expectations, I can see where you might be disappointed though.

ETA: That whole class of '96 receivers was probably the best ever.

(1) Keyshawn

(7) Glenn

(19) Harrison

(24)Moulds

(34) Toomer

(43) Muhammad

(89) T.O.

(135) Horn

(18) Kennison was probably the biggest disappointment from that class.

Jerry Jones paid Terry Glenn 5 million last year and only got 4 plays from Terry Glenn. Thus it makes since that Jerry would insist that Glenn sign an injury waiver to avoid a repeat of last year.

Dont forget about Miles Austin. Outside of TO he is the only other reciever that can stretch the field. Cowboys coaching staff have been raving about him and even if he doesnt overtake Hurd for the #3 WR spot he will still put up decent numbers.

Actually no. That’s not really true. Glenn was a lazy, injury faking, locker room cancer in NE, and he had tons of off the field issues. He got "Keyshawned" from the '01 SB team for trying to derail the program. Now... if you want to say that he got his mind right and was a different player once he got to Dallas, fair enough. But his issues in NE were definitely not over blown. He was a malcontent.

Had Glenn given 100% to the game of football, he could have quite easily become Brady’s Marvin Harrison.

Apparently, Glenn had decided to sign the $500,000 waiver the Cowboys initially offered to protect the club from paying his $1.74 million base salary if he suffered another right knee injury. However, the Cowboys have decided to go in another direction.

Wow, what battle of egos. Terry finally agrees to what Jerry wanted in the first place, then Jerry decides because he didn't get his way in the beginning that he will pull the offer when Terry finally comes around. Jerry could have done this three months ago, preventing this saga, when Terry refused to sign the contract.

Ed Werder was reporting on ESPN 103.3 yesterday that Jerry's advisers were against signing Glenn because it would hamper the development of the Crayton, Austin, etc.
