Cowboys sign veteran safety

This just in from Todd Archer: The Cowboys signed 31-year-old safety Tony Parrish off waivers today. Parrish started 62 games for the 49ers but lost his starting job earlier this season.

He'd played in 121 consecutive games before breaking his leg last season. The injury caused him to to miss the final seven games.

Parrish has been inactive for the past three weeks, but his teammates were still surprised when he was released Tuesday.

Parrish will provide depth at a position the Cowboys have struggled with this season.

I don't know much about the guy, but this sounds like a pretty nice pickup for Dallas this late in the season.

49ers homer. The guy is a solid player, not sure the details of why he was let go but on a good team he has potential to be a pro bowl caliber guy.

He and Roy both play the SS spot. He's not great at covering the deep ball either, much more of a run stopper with average speed but great strength and football knowledge.

It will be interesting to see how they use him.

Did Parrish start out with the Bears? I haven't checked the stats on him, but his name rings a bell.
He started in Chi but is best known for his time in SF. He has averaged about 6 picks per season not including last year when he only played 9 games.

Fixed :D The guy lost about 3 steps this year and his tackling skills have seriously eroded. He was always a few steps late on every play. I'm a big Parrish fan, but when a team with serious needs in the secondary has you repeatedly inactive, then cuts you....that says quite a bit.

Ceiling--a 1 year cork

Downside--he's done.

It is always good to have veteran backups in the secondary. This move can't hurt it can only help.

Parrish was really bad this year. If he sees the field in relevant situations, Dallas is in for a tough road.
