credible sources (1 Viewer)

I was hoping that we could come up with a list of credible sources that will help us filter out some of the fluff pieces we read about players in the offseason. There are beat writers, reporters, and avid fans alike, who's information is very valuable to us. On the contrary, we have all been burned by taking some misinformation to heart and making terrible decisions on draft day based on fluff or stubborn oppinions.

Examples- 2 years ago I read some great stuff on Curtis Martin, drafted him late and he lead the league in rushing.

Last year I read some stuff on Michael Clayton that convinced me to take him. He bombed and it was a wasted pick. Later other articles were written talking about him partying too much which totally contradicted the fluff i read about him in trainin camp.

I would love to compile a list of sources, or maybe we should start grading sources on credibility. Any thoughts???

ProFootballTalk will get votes on both extremes. Decide for yourself.
Decide for yourself.Perfect answer.

For just pure information about a player check out Bob harris of Football Diehards and tfl report not to mention about four mags he edits. Bob will only put out information he knows is fact.

Being a Lions fan, I read alot of info regarding that team. Ive realized you have to be careful about beat writers trying to "break news." Tom (Killer) Kowalski is someone I trust 70% of the time. However, if he breaks some info. and it isn't reported in another source ill devalue it. I like the websight Mlive.com because you get a lot of video/audio feeds from interviews. Hearing the tone of how someone is saying something sheds more light than just reading it. The tone matters...

Example- I read the transcript of Rod Marinelli hiring press conference and thought "this guy is a dope." Then I watched it and came away thinking "Rod Marinelli is a powerful character."

As far as this sight goes, I read much more than I post. Which probably explains why I get so few replys when I do add new topics for discussion. I love reading what Yudkin, Wood, and Drinen have to say about things because of the numbers they provide along with their oppinions. As far as the Lions go, I like Jurb26's posts. He seems to be a passionate Lions fan like myself.

Maybe this sight could somehow categorize the teams that we follow. Maybe it could be required in our avatar. It would save alot of digging- alot of legwork. That way when I need to get some info on the Jets I can specifically zero in on certain members within this sight that will help me draw my on conclusions. What do you think?

Great stuff guys. Thanks for the input. I guess ill resort to tearing apart other peoples posts and nick picking certain phrases of others. God forbid we do anything other than that around here.

I don't get this. Is there someone "resorting to tearing apart other peoples posts and nick picking certain phrases of others" in this thread? If you were referring to my comment on ProFootballTalk, I was being honest. I know some folks swear by them. Others think they are a joke. I try not to have too much of an opinion on them because I don't check that site at all. I just know they have a somewhat tarnished reputation, but also seem to hit some big stories early. Like I said, you have to decide on that one for yourself.

It hasn't been updated for a while, and I don't agree with all the rankings, but here you go

Interesting, never saw that site before. Though can't say I'd put any stock in his rankings when it's clear from his comments he doesn't get concepts like VBD. I mean, take the comment about preferring Stud RB over VBD. That's like saying, "I prefer things falling down over Newton's gravitational equations." They aren't mutually exclusive. VBD explains why Stud RB works in common league setups. It isn't exclusive of it.
I find it funny that the graphics/font style used are exactly the same as the old FFMastermind site. And it's also interesting that the site has ranked FFMastermind #1 for about 7 years in a row now. Also a tad interesting that the website has an AOL address so that information tools like whois.org can not find out who is beyond the site.I think objective does not decribe this site at all. We did not even rank as a top ten website one year. Very funny stuff that will people will do to try and gain some kind of edge on us.
:goodposting: the FFmastermind guy is all over this 'ranking' list you're talking about!

you can just really feel the venom in the writing style, he's attacking all the other guys out there..he goes after Hansen from fantasyguru ( deservedly so, the guy is a self centered egomaniac), takes pot shots at KFFL, and dismisses Draft Sharks as being too interested in their own Vegas WCOFF league. He doesn't even mention Fantasy Index on that list!

David I remeber you're Mr Football site YEARS ago..you used to write about how it was going to lead to a divorce if you kept spending so much time on it! lol

you had the best info going and still do! definitely one of the old school fantasy writers.. I wouldn't pay any attention to Nazarek and his FF Mastermind site.

I've always found local beat writers to be the best source of juicy tidbits during training camp..

just go to a fantasy website that has newspaper links, and read each paper , every morning..

the Denver newspapers are a wealth of info on who's hot and who's not in broncos camp..since everyone is wondering who the next big RB in denver is going to be, don't miss reading the papers from that area..

the Jags have a daily video, approx 10 minutes long, with a full report of the team, I find that a very good source of info on Jax..

bloggers are another good source of info..most of these guys are died-in-the-wool

fans of their local team(s) , and travel to training camp and sit and watch practices for hours on end..they usually have great insider info to share..

Thank you guys, this is more like it. Shick, I wasnt directing my comment at you. I was just upset at how little response there was on this topic. We all don't have hours and hours to read articles and search around all day long and I felt this would be a way to trim off the fat and get to the core of credible information.

So many threads begin with good intentions and end up being quibbles between a few posters. And all the ranting is just a waste of time- with little solid information. There are some very intelligent informative posters in here and I love this sight. I just had a suggestion that I felt might help "group fans" at footballguys in an effort to help streamline information without having to dig so deep.

Like I said before, I am a Lions fan. I read everthing I can on them every day. I consider myself an expert of Lions Information. I would love to have a list on here that tells who the expets are (in this sight) on the other 31 teams.

Are you on the daily email list? If not I think you would find most of what you are looking for there.

Understood. Clare Farnsworth at the Seattle PI should be considered the most credible source for Seattle Seahawks information. He does a good job of being objective and not a total homer. I like to think I know the Seahawks backwards and forwards as well.
