*CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM* (1 Viewer)

Is Larry the oldest lead ever in a comedy? He turns seventy next summer. Buddy Ebsen and John Forsyth were in their seventies during the run of their shows, but they were dramas.

Lucille Ball had a show when she turned seventy-five but it was cancelled within a month.
Late seasons of Golden Girls probably beats him

I'm very excited, but it will be difficult to live up to my expectations.
He was so solid as Bernie Sanders and crushed that "Bern your enthusiasm" episode.

He won't disappoint.   The last season they ran had some really hilarious episodes.. he didn't degrade in quality over the run of the show.

My only concern is that a lot of the other cast members have moved on...   isn't leon on a show.. and Jeff certainly has that Goldberg's show...

If the supporting cast isn't even remotely the same that could cause things to suffer

i would guess they can figure out how to schedule it.  It's only 10 episodes and it's not like it has to be done by any particular date.

Leon is confirmed back on the next season.

Jeff is the dad on the Goldbergs... but I can't imagine him not being back.

The 1st 5 seasons of CYE

'00-'05 have a certain beat thru most of the episodes. It's Larry vs West LA and everything from running down a hallway to the doctor's office to anyone who waits on him for more than 5 seconds.

The last 3 seasons have all seemed a little different. Still very funny but a little different. Season 6 has Hurricane Refugees hanging out, most of the time very little black comedy in Seinfeld and CYE,  it had its moments. Season 7 is mostly Seinfeld Reunion and it was very well done as he was trying to win Cheryl back. Season 8 felt more like Seasons 1-5 and it will be interesting to see after what will be at least a 5 year hiatus where they want to start.

Hooray Larry!
I'm on season 5 currently.  I feel like there was a break after season 3.  Season's 4 and 5 are still good, but have a different flavor.  Seasons 1-3 made me feel like I was watching his real life and seeing glimpses into his neurosis that lead to funny story lines in Seinfeld episodes.  Season 4 and 5 were a little more over the top and felt more like an actual Seinfeld episode.

Just started watching this on Amazon prime,. 10 episodes in and I laughed once.  So far it's ####### horrible.  Sticking with it cause it supposed to be good.  Larry David is a horrible actor so might have to bail, if this doesn't improve.

It isn't for everybody. You might want to stick to "Friends".

There might be a season of big bang theory available you can watch instead

Thanks for bumping the thread and getting us all excited, #######.

One of the best comedies ever. Haven't watched in a long time but always made me laugh.

Do not understand someone that doesn't like sienfeld even trying Larry.  These shows are so alike it's crazy. But different enough to make them both unique and great.  Also cannot fathom someone disliking either.

Having re-watched the first 4 episodes Monday night, I can see how someone wouldn't be blown away by season 1 (at least the start of it) watching it for the first time right now.  It looks a little dated and you can tell the main actors/actresses are just getting used to interacting with each other.  Cheryl and Jeff are a little rough around the edges.  Hopefully newcomers understand this isn't really a scripted show like most that we watch.  The show (quickly, imo) gains steam as it moves on because of that.

It was great though to see Danson's first appearance again and of course the Porno Gil episode with a young Odenkirk.

enjoying my second go-round w/Curb, thanks to Kodi -it's as hysterical and side splitting at it's highs as anything that was ever produced (film/TV).

garnering a new appreciation for Suzy - she absolutely chewed that role up - and now i am crushing her

all in all, better than Seinfeld, imo

Chronically bad taste is often associated with chronically bad decision-making.

Yikes...you are challenging Jim11 for most inane post by a Steelers fan with this one

I agree, but being on HBO helps with that, hell Leon couldn't even be a character on NBC and he was one of my favorites.

absolutely.

definitely helped that LD could flesh out a ton of his Seinfeld angst schtick in a more 'real life' environment. no question that element pushes it over the top for me

they are ranked 1A and 1B in my book

It's pretty good.

Mainly just watching to see if Cheryl gets naked.  I've seen a couple episodes of Seinfeld, and couldn't tolerate that show either.
Sheesh, and I get accused of not having a sense of humor.  Next you are going to tell us Arrested Development sucks too.

It's amazing how different comedic tastes are. I think Curb is the funniest show I've ever seen and second place isn't that close.

Plan on watching this next.  After I get through with Curb.  This is an old show and I don't think it is funny today for a first time viewer.  It might have been funny back then but not now.  Much like Seinfeld which I plan on watching sooner or later, but it's just not funny for a first time viewer.  Imo.

I don't get what the age of the show has to do with it.  Funny is funny.  I could see the way they they shot it and the lack of acting taking time to adjust to, but I just don't get why being a first timer would make it less funny.

Starting watching this with the GF, and she absolutely loves it. But she also loved Seinfeld.

Yeah, I always described it to people as a funnier Seinfeld with horrible acting.  A lot of the point is that they aren't actors and this is improv, but at least that prepared them a little for it.

This thread is making me want to dust off my DVDs of this series.

I think one's enjoyment of Curb largely rests with your willingness to watch a show stocked with characters that are almost entirely unlikable.

Every once and a while I like to walk around like Larry David does. It's very refreshing. Kinda lean back and stroll. I did it the other day on the subway and it was much more relaxing than my usual rushed walk.

I've read that the Bernie Sanders stuff on SNL really got his creative juices flowing again. It was obvious how much he was having, especially the "Bern Your Enthusiasm" short film.
She loves Curb and Bernie both, so that was a big nerd moment for her too.  I'm mostly just thankful for season 10.

I'm in the same boat here.  My parents loved Seinfeld, so you can imagine my dismay when I got my parents the first season on DVD and they just couldn't get into it.

It's actually a pretty artful show with its music arrangements and writing.  I thought the Buckner episode was really cool on a couple different levels.  For a presumable Yankee fan to write a finale like that where Buckner redeems himself in a way was just really cool to me.
