Curt Schilling's tweet - C'mon in to argue about politics (1 Viewer)

I don't know where these numbers come from but I'll agree with this

If you say 40% of Germans in 1940 supported the Nazi agenda, I'd be inclined to believe you

If you say 5-10% of Muslims support the actions of violent Muslim extremists, I'd be inclined to believe that too

But that's not what the gif says

I also think 5-10% of self-identified Christians in the US would support the actions of someone like Eric R Rudolph

The current problem within Islam is that not enough of the right people speak out against hate-laced religious rhetoric, which is prevalent in too many Middle Eastern congregations. Some do, sure, and good on them. But as long as it's officially endorsed in places like Saudi Arabia, our political ally and the "epicenter" of the Muslim religion, there won't be much ground to gain.

There are ways to make this point without the sensationalist Nazi invocations. The overall threat to the western world is apples vs oranges.
They speak out but it doesn't get any mainstream coverage. After some episode or another I posted dozens of quotes from Muslim leaders condemning whatever happened. None of those quotes ever appeared in the mainstream media. But the handful of losers marching in support of the terrorist activities got lots of press.
Dozens. The media! What's not their fault?

I'm not talking about condemnation of any specific acts, I'm talking about what societies are teaching their children about the world around them.

Moderate Muslims don't sell. And by condemning these acts theae leaders do teach their children something.

ESPN IS A JOURNALISTIC EMBARRASSMENT

ESPN - what happened to you? Your intolerant PC police are running amok and making a joke out of you!

By picking and choosing who they'll tolerate and who they'll try to destroy, ESPN has zero credibility as a sound and reasonable media outlet. They suspended former major league great Curt Schilling because of his tweet:

"Only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

ESPN reacted about as fast as a Schilling pitch, wimpering, "Curt’s tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company’s perspective. We have removed him from his current assignment... pending further consideration.”

Two points - well, three, because Curt's a pretty conservative/independent guy.

One - there's been crude, rude bile spewing from the once-great sports network for years now. Trust me. I know. My name and reputation's been in it. One ESPN affiliate's on-air rant featuring their misogynist, animalistic "analysts" grunting and giggling through an entire x-rated celebration of violence against women didn't even draw a chirp from ESPN's wussified leaders. Look it up; I don't want to have to recount it. ESPN radio affiliate in Las Vegas got its kicks out of convicted rapist Mike Tyson describing the next rape he'd want to see. (Warning, graphic language throughout that Sept. 20, 2011 broadcast.)

Two - Schilling's tweet - was he wrong? No! In fact his stats were too generous in estimating Muslims' attitudes. Reports show it's 88% of Egyptian Muslims favoring DEATH for anyone who leaves Islam. The majority of Muslims in many other places share the sentiment. In America, these views could be correctly described as “extreme.”

The difference between Hitler’s army and the genocidal maniacs of ISIS is that the jihadists don’t have as much power… yet.

By denying the accuracy of Schilling’s tweet, ESPN shows its weakness as it buys into the propaganda of ISIS and other terror organizations, helping mislead the public about the very real threat of terrorism. It shows once again that ESPN would rather concentrate on liberal global politics instead of report well on our beloved sports.

From those of us who used to LOVE the network (to the point of addiction, some would confess!), I say to ESPN - you are awful in this. Stick to sports.

I just heard about this for the first time this morning, and now I'm embarrassed that I somehow missed this thread that's been sitting on page one for a couple of days now.

Comparisons to Nazi Germany are always tiresome and/or inflammatory. Other than that, I don't see this guy's tweet as being newsworthy. As we all know, "radical" Muslims really are a small minority of their own population. And we obviously know that that minority causes a wildly disproportionate amount of trouble. If Schilling is going to be criticized for anything, it should be for stating the obvious.

I sometimes think about how amazing it is that Palin was the vice-presidential nominee of one of our two main political parties. It's incredible.

She makes Trump look like Thomas Jefferson.

Pi hear the schilling bloody sock game has been edited out of the 30 for 30 on the Red Sox comeback.

ESPN2 is currently showing 4 Days in October. They skipped the game 6 part (Curt Schilling bloody sock). Guess who ESPN recently fired

OK, yeah, I can't stand Schilling, but that was  pointless, and is the kind of thing the mouth-breathers feed on.

I watched it last night with my brothers and we were completely confused.  One mintue, they going back to NY!  Than, it's Game 7.
I heard ESPN's excuse was they needed to cut time for this. Even if you buy that lame excuse, that's not the part you cut.

it is if you hate curt the human laroosh shilling brohan take that to the bank
We ARE talking about ESPN here but...

The "Bloody Sock" game against the Yankees was no worse than the second most dramatic game in that playoff run.

Besides after blowing all of his own money and millions of dollars of corporate welfare from Rhode island on his video game company Curt Schilling can't take anything to the bank these days.

i am glad he can not take it to the bank i think he is a blowhard the ilk of which are unparaledtedled in the history of mankind and i for one do not salute him and hope that he is relegated to the ash can of humanity take to the bank but frankly i am pretty noncomital on an opinion about his bromigo

You can't cut Game Six and give that lame excuse.

That was a huge game. They were still down 3-2, and one of the best pitchers in the AL that year had ankle surgery before the game and gutted out a win in a master performance.

What the hell is up with that piece of #### network? I wouldn't trust its "news" or documentary department as far as I could throw Skip Bayless these days.

eta* This is like a news outlet edited out Pearl Harbor because our newspapers used the word "Japs" a lot.  What a joke!

I don't think anyone is mad about it.  I'm not.

However, there are some pretty terrible people working for ESPN, and have been in the past.  People who have done a lot of terrible things.  Schilling is not a dangerous person, he's a blowhard with some conservative views.

Stephen A. Smith, who says worse things than Schilling weekly, continues to draw a big salary from them.

Editing a harmless documentary from years ago just seems silly.

oh hey there are aholes everywhere the number rapidly increasing the further you get from milwaukee wisconsin do not get me wrong but it is nice to see schilling get burned so bad he needs a burn ward and a tanker truck of aloe that is all i am saying brohan
