Raider Nation
Devil's Advocate
Is there enough money in the world to get you to watch five seconds of that slop?
Yes, there is enough money to make me watch 5 seconds of that slop. But I completely agree with you on the premise that this show is/will be garbage. Is there enough money in the world to get you to watch five seconds of that slop?
I think Rome may be the best interviewer in sports.I listen to him on the radio a lot down here in Miami but that show is not made for a National Audience. I can appreciate his Papi being on the show but this is not a daily type thing. He does get some good interviews in, much better than Jim Rome when he tries to interview a player.
I'm sure it's like nails on a chalkboard for some folks.
I hated SportsNation for a long time but have warmed up to it more and more.
I didn't realize anyone liked him.Big fan. Didn't realize he was so hated.

Rome is a great interviewer IMHO.Hard to listen to on the radio at times with his "clones" shtick and "smackoff" stuff...but when he actually gets an interview it's not bad.I think Rome may be the best interviewer in sports.I listen to him on the radio a lot down here in Miami but that show is not made for a National Audience. Seriously? He does everything possible to make sure he looks cool and not agitate the person he is interviewing since the time he laid into Jim Everett. It's the worst part of his show, I can handle what he's burning on, sometimes he has a good 3rd section with a guest media guy like Bohmani Jones, dude from Boston, final burn is cool but when he sits down to interview Mercedes Lewis from the Jags I fall asleep.I think Rome may be the best interviewer in sports.I listen to him on the radio a lot down here in Miami but that show is not made for a National Audience. George Clooney? No one is universally liked.
lolSportsNation makes me feel bored, creeped out and aroused at the same time.
I hate that guy.George Clooney? No one is universally liked.
Dan Lebatard and Jim Rome deserve to be beaten with a tire iron.
Jim ROme just on general principle for that horrible goatee mangina he sports.
It's funny. I think DLB is one of the best in the business right now. The issue is that he doesn't appeal to the casual/traditional sports fan.I dvr it and watch it most nights.

rack emHow often does Rome interview someone who's neither athlete nor coach? You can't be a great interviewer if that's your pool of interviewees. Maybe he steps out of that arena and does some great ones that I simply haven't seen?
Good points. Best interviews by anyone are with other media types, they will actually say something other than the standard cliches that define coachspeak & playerspeak.'Ministry of Pain said:Seriously? Hes interviewed a few different writers that I've heard on his radio show. He interviewed Ben Mezrich who wrote Accidental Millionaires (became The Social Network the movie) and Bringing Down the House (became 21 the movie) before The Social Network was getting any press months before it came out, and it was one of the better interviews I've heard. How often does Rome interview someone who's neither athlete nor coach? That's why I asked instead of just blindly criticizing. Rome has always seemed pretty conventional at best to me. Like a previous poster said, somebody like Kornheiser who pretty much avoids athletes and coaches altogether is way more interesting to me.Hes interviewed a few different writers that I've heard on his radio show. I've been mulling this over for the past 24 hours since you posted it.I'm gonna go ahead and say that Jimmy Kimmel is "universally liked." Nobody ever has a bad word to say about that dude.No one is universally liked.
Oh dear.LeBatard's pretty funny on PTI
What can I say, the less seriously they take it, the more likely I am to pay attention. Gotta watch something around here. Tony Kornheiser's probably a top ten current famous guy for me.Oh dear.LeBatard's pretty funny on PTI
I like PTI, but the only guest host I can stomach is Bob Ryan. Same here. Whenever Le Batard does his stupid "BAM!" at the beginning to announce his presence, BAM, I change the channel. Without fail. Every time.'Mr. Pickles said:I like PTI, but the only guest host I can stomach is Bob Ryan. Sports Guy and LeBatard have no business being on the show.
Good observation. Like me, the LeBatards and Kornheisers of the world are more amused by sports than anything else. This puts us at odds with much of the sports viewing public.Sports fans who take sports very seriously will never like DLB. His days of being serious are long gone.
I'm on the Kornheiser/DLB team 100%. I stopped taking sports seriously once I was old enough to know better. I laugh at fans who live and die with how the pro teams they follow do. I still love baseball, football, and basketball. But at this stage in my life I'd rather watch PTI and DLB's show over sportscenter 10/10 times. Pro sports have never been closer to dead to me than they are today. They are slowly but surely crossing into pro wrestling territory. I think Kornheiser and DLB see it the same way.Good observation. Love Kornheiser's radio show the mostest. You know what's killing big time sports for me? Gloomy bastards like Nick Saban who suck all the enjoyment out of the game in the pursuit of wins. Yes, Nick, your fan base doesn't care if you look and sound like someone who hasn't had a satisfactory bowel movement in years as long as you win, but stay away from me with those Type A-work 18 hours a day-this isn't funny-doldrums.I'm on the Kornheiser/DLB team 100%. Absolutely agree. I hate that approach. Parcell's was the same way. The NFL isn't fun to watch. I remember a time when it was and that is how I know it isn't anymore. I'd argue, though, that the NFL isn't even in the same world as the NCAA in terms of enjoyment. For me at least the NCAA is fun to watch. My wife and I only go to college games. Prices, attitudes, and war like seriousness have done their part to kill the NFL. My biggest beef with the NCAA is the blatant hypocracy and exploitation.Love Kornheiser's radio show the mostest. Make it Bob Ryan and Kornheiser all the time. Wilbon has no business doing anything. The only reason he has a TV career at all is because they hit on some good chemistry with Kornheiser. Every opinion he has devolves into "I hate this JUNK!"Don't hate on Bill Simmons, he's top shelf among the fan perspective sports journalists.'Mr. Pickles said:I like PTI, but the only guest host I can stomach is Bob Ryan. Wilbon is nowhere near as interesting to me as Kornheiser (and he's on Kornheiser's radio show every Monday, too) because his opinions are more decisive, generally more predictable and less nuanced. I trust strongly opinionated people less and less with each passing day.I know I'm not in the meat of Simmons' age demographic (the reality stuff stupefies me) but I love the way he has no fear of wildly unconventional thinking when it comes to making sports more fun.
