In training camp this week, he suffered "a Serious knee injury" and will have season-ending knee surgery on Friday!

thanks to this injury, we must try to either get Ty Law, Lito Sheppard, or wait until the June 1st cuts, and pick up the two best options.

I hope he gets better, but he isn't even that great, but is a decent nickel back.

Please Phil, pull a rabbit trick and trade for lito, and sign either ty law, or Ashton youboty.

i also think they should wait a week or two for any cuts that are made.

God Bless Daven Holly!

From what I've read Holly got hurt breaking up a pass to B. Edwards........

RotoTimes

Braylon Edwards (WR)

5/21: Braylon Edwards sustained a hip pointer in practice as he landed awkardly when cornerback Daven Holly attempted to break up a pass, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Edwards remained inside to workout on Wednesday, but Holly could be lost for the season, as he reportedly sustained ligament and cartilage damage in his knee.

Considering Edwards also got hurt on the play, it could have been an even worse start to the 08 season.

Losing Daven hurts but its a good thing it happened now instead of later, now Savage can find some DBs. And talk about prophetic, saw this yesterday before Holley's injury, go to link for full read.

... The one place where Savage was unable to act and where fate may deal the Browns hand was in dealing away CB Leigh Bodden to land Shuan Rogers and not being able to land a corner in the draft. Savage, "I can't magically create a cornerback, but obviously it's something we're going to continue to watch." Savage didn't sit tight after the draft and was able to sign some highly regarded street free agent corners, Jerrid Gaines from Miami Ohio (5'10 5/8, 183 lbs, 4.53) Darnell Terrell from Missouri (6'1 ¾, 203 lbs, 4.46) and CB Jonathan Zenon from LSU (5'11 ¾. 191 lbs, 4.48). Savage, "We're better at the position than maybe people think right now." Fate would like to deal the Browns hand but it is possible that one DB may emerge from one of the free agents or that an improved pass rush will allow the Browns to get by without having landed a top CB.
Savage didn't seem overly concerned, and to to be honest I prefer Brandon McDonald over Holley who I never really liked in the first place. Did Holley sign his RFA or not? I thought that he hadn't but if he had not signed then I don't think his agent would have allowed him to participate in any OTAs where he could have gotten injured so does anyone know if Holly had signed or that he made a big blunder and got hurt before signing?

sorry to hear that for holly but as a steeler fan this is good news

who are their cbs now? are they all undrafted rooks?

:lmao:

Bodden was a good CB who was coming off of his best season but Holly wasn't coming off such a good year. He had five INTs in 06 but zero last year. He made a dozen starts in 06 but only six last year. I think he was improving but I felt McDonald would overtake him this year. And both Holly and Bodden were street free agents that Savage found while the two starters are Eric Wright, taken in the second round of last year's draft who started from game - one and looked solid. And then surprise fifth round draft pick who filled in for Bodden last year and looked sensational. Both young guys but both coming off of impressive rookie seasons so I think the starting CBs for the Browns are still in fairly good shape.Per the Steelers, well I wouldn't gloat over injuries. From that same article that pointed out each team in the AFCN and where they addressed needs and where teams didn't address needs and where fate may play a role, this is what they said about the Steelers.

Final chapter of the AFC North offseason review - "See how the Fates their gifts allot"

"I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act; but I do believe in a fate that acts on them unless they act." G.K. Chesterson "On Holland, Generally Speaking (1928)

The key for AFC North teams to determine their own fate heading into the offseason and draft was how they would act to address their team needs...

... Did the Steelers adequately address team needs? No. The Steelers could have reached early in the draft for lower rated lineman but chose higher rated players at skill positions. Their offensive line may be the downfall especially if their $102 million dollar QB Ben Roethlisberger goes down and they end up eating the $31 million guaranteed portion of his contract or if the line doesn't open holes for top pick RB Rashard Mendenhall. By not addressing their offensive line, the Steelers are tempting fate to deal their hand.
The Browns weak point was DB but both Bodden and Holly were street free agents and the Browns got one guy who looks pretty good, I think it was this guy: Darnell Terrell from Missouri (6'1 ¾, 203 lbs, 4.46) oh and Romeo Crennel worked with free agent Ty Law who is available. Savage said they are in contact but right now Ty's asking price is too high. He would be an upgrade over Holly IMHO.

Youboty is with the Bills.

We lost a replaceable nickel corner, so what? McDonald was going to win the #2 role out of camp anyway. We won't target Law or Lito (as we shouldn't), but I'm sure we'll be watching the June 1 cuts and possibly looking to swing a training camp deal a la Hank Fraley 06.

Per Rotoworld:

Browns signed restricted free agent CB Daven Holly to a one-year, $1.417 million contract. He was subsequently waived/injured.

He'll go on I.R. once he clears waivers. Even though the Browns were nice enough to pay him for this year, it's an extremely unfortunate injury for Holly. His 2009 free agent market value is crushed due to a blown out knee.

Also per Roto the Browns have also signed Terry Cousin...former Jags Nickel back from the last 3 seasons.
