I'd even give my seat to prince charming here.  Despite his ####ty attitude toward others.
Bingo.  And I was perfectly polite with this gentlemen.  Not sure what “attitude” you’re upset with, but I know you follow me around threads and do stuff like this.  Did I offend you in a prior thread?  A prior life?  Do you own a pit bull??

🤔

No clue what you mean.  Can't recall seeing you in an FFA thread for about 2 years.  I'm mostly in the SP, and frankly rarely post at all anymore.

Wait, are you saying this isn't all shtick that we are supposed to play along with?  Like, it's cool for you to give people grief about a man purse, or call someone a female dog......but when people reciprocate that's not somehow proper?

Man, that's on me.  I foolishly thought that was the dynamic you wanted.  My bad.  Sincere apologies, didn't realize you were easily bothered.

What's the price difference between first class and the cattle car?  I get that Oats and most people use points, but just curious about the cost benefit for those of us who aren't world travelers for business.

The difference in price is all over the place depending on flight, capacity, availability, etc. To me it's worth it to pay a few hundred to upgrade on a flight of 4+ hours or so. But I'm flying to Chicago on Tuesday and it only cost about $120 to upgrade.

The best deals will come in the days leading up to a flight when there's a lot of availability.

Outside of international flights, I don't think there are many First Class sections anymore, mostly business class. Maybe on NY to California. The difference between 1st and business usually isn't worth the extra money, imo but between coach and business, I've seen it range from a few hundred to a few thousand. Sometimes they are so close in price that I can't believe anyone wouldn't take advantage of it. Legroom alone makes business worth it. At 6'3", I can't handle coach seats. Just not worth flying if I have to be miserable the whole time.

I may be in the minority here and certainly don't fly as much as some of you, but I've never flown first class and never felt the need to at a cost of hundreds more.

When I say “first” I’m using that interchangeably with business. I don’t really care about the difference in those, and most flights don’t have both. Same crap. But for someone with long legs, coach has become unbearable, so I’ll gladly avoid it when I can (either for business travel, or for vacation travel).

brohan i dont know jack about flight stuff and aint no one ever accused the old swcer of being first class but i do know this you were on a vacation with your wife and you have posts here pretty regularly about this thing maybe put the computer down and spend some time with your lady light a few candles put brandy on in the background softly and spend time on the stuff that counts that is all i am sayin take that to the bank bromigo

Perhaps he has Crohns or colitis and cannot give up his seat. I do. And honestly probably wouldn’t give up my isle seat for you. If I need to go to the bathroom, I need to go NOW. That’s the reason I always get isle seats.

Its an awful disease. We actually lost a member to crohns:  saints something or another.

What's crazy about all this....

Let's say I book a flight and I'm pleased with my seat choice. Regardless of everything else around me that I can't control (whiny kids, lazy adults who didn't choose their seats well, obese passengers, etc etc), I'm considered a dbag if I simply say "No thanks, I'm happy with my seat." when asked to switch.

Crazy stuff. I can see why people get violent on planes.

Good point. No reason why the guy needs to explain a possible medical condition.

Since we have a bunch of frequent flyers in here, if I were to book 3 seats on Southwest using a combo of miles and the Companion Pass, what will I need to do to make sure that at least one of my wife and I are sitting next to my daughter?

We don't fly much (I've never flown SW) and would prefer not to end up in a situation where I'm the one tromping on the plane like some hillbilly asking more prepared flyers to give up their seat for my family.
If your daughter is under 6 you get family boarding (after A), very good chance you can stay together.

Did it once recently.  It was ok, but the ticket was double ($450 more) and I was flying with 2 kids so there's no chance in hell I'm paying $1350 more for some more legroom.   I happen to get the upgrade from my brother.

Exactly. This disease is the worst socially. I know every bathroom within 5 miles of my house. I am hesitant to go out to eat.  I do not eat 24 hour prior to flying the way it is.  No way am I going to explain to big handed Otis I may poop on him if I don’t have the isle. So I’ll see your Taco farts and raise you crap oozing from my seat to yours.

The best part is they start bringing drinks while the common folk are still boarding. I think they’re used to degenerates in business class. It’s no questions asked unless you’re acting up.

Exactly.

Most times I'm flying, I'm with at least one other family member. Paying an extra grand for legroom and faster drinks isn't something I find worth the cost.

If I'm flying by myself, I can entertain myself just fine with some Sudoku, music, and/or sleep. Even at 6'2", it's just not a big deal for me to sit still for a few hours in an airplane seat.

Even recently on an international flight, the seats are plenty comfortable enough and there's enough movie entertainment that it goes by pretty quickly.

Totally legitimate reason if you need frequent bathroom access due to a medical condition.

Yup.

Another point for Delta — the woman was polite and changed our seats to put us next to each other. But on the way in, the woman from AA was overwhelmed, rancid and basically told me to GFY.

For the record, those of us who fly first class often are usually upgraded for free because of how much we fly. I’d say in the past year, out of maybe 50 flights, I was upgraded for free on at least 40 of them.

So not everyone is paying the big prices for first class.

Also, once you start getting used to the comfort of first class, it is hard to fly coach. It may be snooty or whatever, but it’s the way it is.

The problem is I don’t know WHEN I’ll need frequent bathroom access. Numerous flights I have absolutely no need for the bathroom. But that ONE flight I may. Sucks. That’s the worse part of it the not knowing.  Hence the anxiety.

Is AA the one who merged with USAir? I've had some bad experience with that airline a while ago. I only fly Delta (and SW when I have to)

Regardless of what side of the fence you are on in regards to the expectation that one should just give up their seat---clearly the biggest doosh move in this entire scenario was photographing the dude without consent--posting it online--and trying to ruin and demolish that dudes character.  That is inexcusable, juvenile, reeks of over-excessive affluenza, and is bully behavior.  The dude had a right to keep his seat without fear that his picture would be spread across the internet.   The fact that Otis doesn't realize this is not helping him here.

I don’t get a “trapped like a rat” in the window seat either. I mean, it’s true, but it’s also offset by the fact that you have to unplug all your crap and get up every time the guy next to you wants to take a leak. This is huge on long/international flights where you may want to skew. And the guy next to you also controls the window shade. Frankly I haven’t ever figured out which seat is better, window or aisle.
And here lies the issue.

First off we all sound like little princesses when we are dissecting first class seats   I thought that’s the schtick we were going with here.

Some people dislike the aisle.

Some people dislike the window.

It’s personal preference...although it’s pretty much a given the bulkhead is the worst seat up there I would think.

White watch guy probably wanted to be comfortable too, maybe he actually paid for the seat (unlikely), has a bad back and needs to straighten the legs out, a tiny bladder.

Would have be Mr. Rogers of him to move but I definitely wouldn’t have expected it of him or anyone in this situation because then I become the rude person who is the problem.

I do hope the rest of your vaca goes much better!

Two checked bags $100

Two movies $20

Three Baileys & coffee, two beers and a couple bourbons $50

Quicker checkin, boarding, and first bags off the plane $50

A chance to piss off an entitled NY lawyer - pricelss

Oh yeah.  This guy’s life is ruined.

I heard that the guy got fired from his job.  His grandkids won’t even talk to him.  Lost his sponsorship with Cole Haan too.

I wasn’t really all that upset about the meal. I just found it funny that this fellow of all people was the one to take the last omelet.  Of course he was.
If you are in the last seat you almost never get your choice. Enjoy the fish in the evening and the “healthy option” in the morning.

Actually, as was mentioned, they usually start taking orders from the front or back depending on which direction you are flying. Not sure if all airlines do.

I guess that’s a Delta thing. Never had that on my airline. Always from the front. I assumed it was to make up for the crappy bulkhead seats.

Agree with this which is why I would never ask someone to switch seats for which is displayed here, a trivial reason.  Its okay to be slightly inconvenienced if you didn't plan it out well ahead of time.

As an aside, Delta is a million ####### light years ahead of American right now.  They’re proving it on every single flight I’m on.  My American flight to our destination still had those ratty old LCD screens in the ceiling three rows ahead of you.  Delta is a brand new plane with individual LED screens.  The service has also been miles better.  I’ve been feeling this way for a while after some crap American flights recently, but to have an A-B comparison on the same trip drove it home.

Bye bye American.  It’s been real.
American is slightly better than United, they are the worst of the major domestic airlines.   Thought you were a player, you are still flying American?

This thread wouldn’t exist if Oats was a more frequent traveler.

us travel pros know this

1) people put a lot of effort into picking the seat that is right for them , asking someone to move from a seat that they specifically picked is not an ideal strategy

2) bulkhead is often avoided by frequent travelers

3) 5 minutes of planning effort avoids these situations

I think it's giving Oats way too much credit to call this a fishing trip rather than a reflection of his outlook on such things.
I see.  Otis - a stressed out NYC attorney with 3 little kids - gets a 24 hour reprieve with his hot wife and he spends a good chunk of his time composing snarky replies to the FFA over a ridiculous situation that - by his own admission - IS HIS FAULT, and we don't think this is at least partly fishing on his part?  C'mon guys....

But they're still passing off those economy plus seats as first class.

I flew a ton for work until a couple of years ago, and the company policy was to choose the lowest-price fare regardless of airline.  Since I was flying all over the country as well as internationally, I ended up on every airline.  My conclusion was that there's no difference between them.  All of them suck 20% of the time and are incredible 5% of the time.  When you get the poopy 20%, you can decide never to fly that airline again, but if you're consistent with that, you'll end up unwilling to fly any airline before long.

Check in online 23 hours before the flight to get high boarding priority.
