Deadly Animal Draft (2 Viewers)

Figures I spend a couple hours hanging around this afternoon without a pick but I'm never when it's my turn... but quite happy to see my big snake still available. The reticulated python's a documented man-eater and should give my team some nice added muscle.

good job bj, just in time and the commish was forced to do a bunch of needless research

I can't believe it fell to me.

look here first

Ok, now calm down. You still have time to plan.

My GREAT BARRACUDA (Sphyraena barracuda) is the nastiest sea creature on the board. His razor sharp teeth will cut all sorts of sea animals (or land animals that dare stray into the water) into itty bitty shreds.

The barracuda generally attacks swiftly, charging at its prey at great speed and taking a large snapping bite with its powerful jaws. The barracuda uses its acute eyesight to hunt, and will usually move quickly towards any bright light or sudden movement that might indicate the presence of prey. In murky water, it tends to attack an object even before identifying it.

When they attack, they don't let go. Barracuda have unique dental work. The teeth appear randomly placed but all Barracuda have the exact same dental arrangement. There long needlelike teeth actually each have their own hole on the opposing jaw to fit into, thus allowing the Barracuda to close its mouth. This design allows the Barracuda to grab its prey with little chance of it escaping. This fish grabs its prey, swallowing small victims whole while larger prey is cut into pieces to be swallowed separately.

Good luck in your battle against the barracuda. There are few predators that are large enough and fast enough to feed on adult great barracuda. Sharks, tuna, and goliath grouper have been known to feed on small adult barracuda.

They are so ruthless that they do not care for their young. Take that.

Barracuda also have a slight advantage in this competition in that an animal that eats it could fall ill, as many barracuda are poisonous. The prey of choice for the Great Barracuda is fish that feed on algae growing on the coral reef. Sometimes, though, eating these herbivorous fish can be a problem. In certain tropical reefs around the world, including Belize, coral contain a naturally occurring poison known as ciguatera. Thus, when the choice algae-feeding prey ingest this poison and are then consumed in great number by the barracuda, the level of toxins becomes quite high. Consequently, when people (N.B. or other animals) eat the toxin-laden barracuda, they can become very ill, with symptoms including numbed appendages and blurred vision.

I'll leave you with the words of Kris Kristofferson:

Killer Barracuda

Look into water, see the barracuda

Patient as the devil

hanging still

Like a shadow in the water

Pretty barracuda,

dagger of the devil

waiting to kill

Little girl beware, of killer barracuda

He rules these waters like a king

He'll cut your heart out slicker than a dagger

Not 'cause he's hungry 'cause he's mean

You can see the shark now

glidin' through the water

Ugly as death.

Eats anything

But the pretty barracuda, don't touch no leavins

Takin' what he wants to

'cause he's king

And you can't scare him or entice him

He won't move for the devil, 'til his own time

Then quicker than heartbeat

he'll turn you away girl just to

see you fall, and leave you dyin'

Little girl beware of the killer barracuda

He rules these waters like a king

He'll cut your heart out slicker than a dagger

Not 'cause he's hungry

'cause he's mean

So who's going to be picking for pgreen fan after gorf? Or has that been resolved?
pgreen has been around for a while. I assume he will be making his pick. Because he has been lurking, he will get the customary 15 minutes, once he is on the clock.

OKAY PGREENGFAN is up - 15 minutes to go

'Cuda are certainly nasty but they're too small. I think they only get to a maximum off about 6 feet or so. I don't think it could take any of the sea critters taken so far except for the little ones, much less competing with the sharks or whales.

Here we have my bird pick. Let's keep in mind the voters are, for the most part, Americans. Despite Benjamin Franklin's suggestion, our national bird is NOT the Turkey. Instead, my pick to insipre the hearts and mind of voters (as well as being very bad-### in its own right) is The Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

By proxy, for Team Kovax select the Greenland Shark

Ensuring sea creature supremacy, the Kovax and JAA team select the Greenland Shark. While this shark is not as quick as other sharks, its other features more than make up for this lack of top speed. The Greenland Shark suffers from a condition which causes its eyes to glow, entrancing other fish and attracting them to the mouth of the shark. Who needs speed when you have hypnosis? Just as strategically useful, the Greenland Sharks flesh is extremely toxic and leaves other creatures who bite it feeling as though they just drank too much tequila. If the Greenland Shark does get attacked and bitten the attacker will be left in a stupor- seeing double and looking for the nearest safe place to rest. Except there will be no safe places with our Great White waiting for the kill. Take that Orca!!!

By proxy, for Team Kovax select the Indochinese Tiger Indochinese Tiger as our next pick. This tiger is a slight bit smaller than the Bengal Tiger but is just as ferocious. We feel that since this is the biggest cat available on the board, as well as not ‘closed out’, the Indochinese Tiger represents excellent value and will pair nicely with our Wolverine.
I thought we were done with tigers... no?

the link isn't working, and i find it hard to believe the 12 members reading this thread were enough to overload the site.

FYI, I agreed to help truth if he needed it and he said he wouldn't be home for about another 45 minutes (just leaving work now).Is it possible to wait that long? FYI, I am not his teammate but have just agreed to help to move this along.

Hang on an f-ing minute. You realize I am the one having to scramble to get all this crap right?
hey, i'm just saying the link they gave you is no good. i wouldn't presume someone would submit a pick without giving you a link, would they? that would be pretty nervy.

Well, he was working and was without internet access. He gave me a couple picks, but he doesn't know if they are dulpicative types or not. He thinks they should be fine but without double checking at home he can't be sure.So instead of getting screwed, I'd rather ask to wait just 45 minutes.Or, I make the picks for him without the possibility of him getting f'ed.

This 10 minutes would obviously be helpful.
Jokes on me, I posted it by proxy, so I get to rush and change it. One meber of that team better be back when truth is done or they will feel my wrath!Anyway, their pick (team truth) has been changed from Indo Tiger to Greenland Shark. You may go back to the previous page and read all about it.I apologize for getting so grumpy here. I am taking a short break to a) twist one up b) pour a cold one and/or c) find that pain pill script.

1) Oceanic White Tip Shark.2) Egyptian Grey MongooseSorry, no time for pics, am cooking dinner. Truth will hopefully post them when he gets home along with more.

can this be the end of the mongoose picks? there are 35 subspecies. kinda pointless if everyone has their own mongoose.

Started working on this earlier, during the hour lull, and now it's up-to-date.

In related news...the Food Chain Dominators have completed negotiations with new GM Sonny Lubick Bobblehead Doll. Welcome aboard the future League Champs!Sonny is now an authorized vicious creature selector in my absence. Hopefully this may prevent possible problems during the day, when I am frequently unable to access a computer. He has our next selection ready, if it is necessary tonight.

i agree. as much as i'd like a mongoose, every one having one defeats the purpose.
