Democratic Debate (1 Viewer)

Bernie is simply unrealistic here. He can't possibly afford to pay for everybody to go to college. He can't tax Wall Street nearly enough (and if he does, he kills middle class IRAs). Bernie wants to change America's entire system- it just won't work.
If everyone goes to college it also degrades the value of those degrees.
This is the Democratic debate thread. Republicans are down the hall.

Just tuned in. Has anyone explained how they are going to start dealing with our 19 trillion in debt?
The question of debt has not come up.
I admit to getting frustrated with all the candidates and dropping oit of the conversation the last few weeks. Has anyone on either side addressed the topic at all?
No. Usually the Republicans at least give it some lip service (though they never say what they're going to do about it) but not this time.

Part of that may be because under Obama, the annual deficit has pretty much shrunk every year.

It is scheduled to go up though. And what happens when interest rates on that debt starts rising. Amazing the blinders on this issue by everyone. Instead we get black lives matter stuff.

That's important too, though.

It's a tax on dark pools. It will work.

How many Bernie fans actually agree more with Hillary on the issues but just wouldn't vote for her because of who she is?

I wasn't aware that Salvador Allende was a dictator.

And Bernie was very much in favor, back in the 80s, of getting rid of El Salvador's government, and the Apartheid government of South Africa.

Heard someone mention something to this effect tonight at dinner. There's people that agree with her policies, but just can't stand her as a person. I can't say I disagree with them. If only the GOP alternative wasn't so terrible.

Bernie is right on regime change. Is Hillary a PNAC member yet?
Applause, he finally said it, but lord for such a supposed firebrand he constantly pulls punches when he is on stage with her.
He seems to put the GOP not winning over him winning.
True, the GOP has forgotten the 11th commandment they supposedly created. However you can't pry issues of reform from the politicians who need reforming. Names need to be named.

The first spouse question is obviously all about Bill.

I love how when we finally have the first woman president - shocker - the first spouse role gets redefined. Underlying subtext is, hey you don't expect a man to do that stuff do you?

And then Hillary says the first woman president will be designing menus and picking the flowers and china. Wow.

hillary has co-opted most of her positions from Bernie - the difference is one candidate you believe when they talk, and with Hillary, there s n reason to trust anything she says.

Can you imagine Jeb in charge of fighting ISIS. Doesn't inspire much confidence.
Unfortunately he is compromised. I ask myself if he was the better president to be, would he have handled the Iraq situation any better than George and the answer I come back with is 'no.'

eta - However unlike Hillary at least he would have read his intelligence briefing.

Oh c'mon, there are plenty of differences. Just on subsidized college education alone. Hillary makes so much more sense.

Jeb would've been Cheney's puppet.
And that's what happened. When the VP search turned up the head of the search as the choice, that's all we needed to know. Same thing would have likely happened to Jeb.

Plus Hillary is bought and paid for by wall street, while Bernie is paid for by us.

I'm talking strictly policy. Just on paper. Forget who is selling it.
