Whose spot will he take? DHB or Ford?
Now we have a legit question. In theory, it would be DHB. In reality though, we all know DHB will be given every chance to maintain his starting spot. When camp opened it was Schilens and Ford with the #1s. But DHB was hurt then. By the time he came back Ford was hurt and soon after Schilens got hurt.I personally think DHB and Ford will start the season opener. Moore is going to have to play his way into more PT as the season progresses, which based on camp reports and the first preseason game, I think he'll do.

That said, Al Saunders was signing DHB's praises yesterday, so maybe we shouldn't completely write him off just yet.
To be fair, he seemed shocked that DHB ran a route correctly and caught a ball with his hands.

According to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times, rookie Denarius Moore "not only is the best wide receiver on the field, oftentimes he is the best player, period."
Is this including Ford? Because he seemed to be the breakout answer last year.
Ford, Murphy, and Schilens are all injured. Ford broke his arm. They all started out in camp but right now all that says is he's outplaying DHB and the scrubs. Moore could be one of the top WRs in this draft class, but dont expect a huge rookie season.
Ford broke his hand, not arm... Two very different things.

yes i don't understand the falling all over Ford as the automatic #1 WR due to 3 games last yeari like ford and have him in many leagues, but Moore is just a better WRby 2012, we will be discussing if Ford can keep the WR2 job and hold off Schilens, Murphy, and whoever 4.29 guy Al drafts next year
I don't understand. Ford blows up in several actual NFL games, and people are overreacting to it, but Moore has some good practices, and a good preseason game, and he's clearly the better WR?I like Moore, and don't think you're way off here, but Ford is the #1 right now.
Percy Harvin/Sydney Rice. Ford and Moore are complimentary players. The emergence of each will make the other better.
that is a good analogy, and i think most people would say Rice is a better WR

Check where Moore went to school and compare it to Lash's avatar. I like Moore just as we all do, but discounting Ford is just silly. He has already proven he can do everything well against regular season NFL defenses. Crossing routes, deep routes, returns, end arounds, jumpballs, locating errant Jason Campbell throws, etc. He's not going away.
i can't figure out where i discounted Ford ... "i like Ford and have him in many leagues" ... is i believe what i said, don't know how that is "discounting"i'm just saying that Moore is better, you all don't have to believe me ... and Ford will have a better year this year fantasy-wise ... but Dynasty it's 2012 and on OAK WR1 = Moore

Ford has produced in an actual NFL game in an explosive way, Though its a small sample. One of the concerns expressed about Moore has been that he has not been a physical player and can be taken out of games by physical play. Moore is not a tall or large player.

Interestingly there was concern expressed last year I think by Waldman that Ford avoided physical contact. He didn't have problems getting off the line due to his quickness but did not like getting hit after the catch. Now what we saw from Ford in the KC game last year was scrappy combative play just the opposite Was it a fluke?Time will tell.

i like the potential of both these guys. They both look like excellent deep threats. Mcfadden should benefit from the open space.

Also somebody was quoted as saying Moore was the best player on the field in practice but Ford, Mcfadden, Murphy have been on the sidelines due to injury.

Bolded for you. There's zero chance Ford is fighting anyone off in 2012. I can't believe anyone could think that if they've watched his tape.

The last rookie draft I had, I traded my '12 4th and 5.01 to move up to 4.08 and draft him. Our draft consisted of rookies in the 1st two rounds, then FA's and rookies rounds 3-5.

The Raiders had the day off yesterday, but here's a quote from Raider Beatwriter Steve Corkran during the Raiders Wednesday noon chat:

Denarius

What is it about Moore that is supposed to lead me to believe he isn't like Kenny Shedd or Marcus Knight? Both those guys tore it up in preseason and practices only to hardly do anything in the

regular season

12:20 Steve Corkran: I have seen untold young receivers pass through the past 17 years. None has looked like D. Moore, even on rare occasion. This kid is polished, smooth, confident, fearless and determined. He's their best receiver right now, even if Schilens, Murphy and Ford were healthy.

Louis Murphy is out for the opening game against Denver. He had surgery after struggling all camp trying to get back from a "tweak". Apparently it got worse quick and Hue Jackson shut him down. We know what's been reported is that he's only lost for the first game, but how many wideouts have had surgery early in the season and the hammy lingers? Too many in my short memory. Anyway, this obviously bumps Moore's situation as he now has only Glass Schilens to compete for PT.

:goodposting:
Oakland WR Louis Murphy had surgery for an undisclosed ailment during the week of August 15-19, and he won't be able to play in the team's regular season opener Sept. 12. Murphy had missed most of training camp due to a hamstring injury, but it's uncertain the surgery is related to that injury.
Do we know anything yet, or is everyone still

Is the Denarius Moore hype train dying off, or still going strong?
Full steam ahead. The reports have continued to be spectacular, and most observers & beat writers feel that he is an exceptional rookie who stands out from anyone else that they have seen over the last 10 years. In a redraft league, temper your expectations accordingly, but in dynasty or keeper league formats he is a strong buy as long as his ADP doesn't get out of hand.

if you got on this train 6 weeks ago, you're looking golden

if you're not on the train yet? its left, or the ticket to catch it is going to cost you at any rate

I have had 2 drafts and one more to go. I've missed on Denarius both times. It's hard to gauge his value. I have seen him go in the 10th and 14th round, and mocks usually hover around the 14th. But it's hard to pull the trigger if your team is already pretty stacked at WR and guys like Tolbert and Starks are on the board and you know you need a flex/bye week filler. I think I've been too cute at this, and next draft will be my last hope to snag him, if only to hop on my own bandwagon. :drive:

Just took him in the 10th myself. It definitely felt early but I really saw him as the bpa, and I've learned not to be too cute in trying to wait on guys that I think are going to fall till later in the draft. Someone else always takes your guy 3 picks before when you were about to finally pounce. It did help that I was in the opposite position as you describe, thin at WR and thick at RB. In this particular league everyone is on the grab-wrs-early bandwagon, leading to a lot of good RBs available so I took them over the questionable WRs that were left in the early-mid rounds... leaving me needing to draft a WR in the 10th.

I'm still on the train, sitting in the dining car, with a nice martini in hand, waiting for the next destination - opening kickoff week 1. Come join me.
Be right there, order me a whiskey and coke.Didn't have a pick until 4.12 of my dynasty rookie draft so had to trade for him after being unable to move up. Keeper league with very deep rosters got him in the 14th as my 7th WR (we start 5 including a flex position). I don't expect him to be a starter in a league that starts 3 WRs, but for one that starts 4 or 5, I won't be at all surprised to see him in the mix before the season is done. As much as the Raiders get ripped on, they did have a pretty decent passing game last year for a team that had different QBs and WRs in and out of the lineup. Though I wish they'd have kept Gradkowski, they did at least get some backups with game experience.

I'm hoping he falls to me at 1.10 (rook/vet draft). One of the owners picking ahead of me is a Raider homer to the core but I can only wish. :football:

Im on the clock right now at 1.10. Rookie / vet , salary cap league.Small roster but start 3 WR and they score better than RB. Deciding between him, Greg Little and Kendall Hunter.Leaning towards Moore.

Where is he going now in late rookie only drafts?
got him at 5.16 on may 2 (pfft guppies)then the draft i was in on aug1 got pushed back three weeks DOH!the hype train started he went at 1.12 (pfft, still guppies but they CAN read LOL)

10 team 10 player keeper league here. We had our rookie/FA draft last night. I kept waiting, then finally pulled the trigger at 5.1. Three other owners (including the 5.2) were pissed when I picked him. So in many leagues he is still reasonable.

What kind of numbers can we reasonably project for Moore this year? I like what I'm hearing, but I'm just trying to decide if he should be someone of interest for me at the end of my re-draft auction.

Would 50-60 catches, 800-900 yards, 5-6 TDs sound about right?

If you can wait til after tonights game, you may get a better indication

Denarius Moore - WR - Raiders ESPN's Bill Williamson confirms that Denarius Moore "will certainly be in the top of part of the Raiders’ receiving rotation" in the season opener.

Williamson even suggests that Moore could start the opener, but the Raiders' blind loyalty to Darrius Heyward-Bey may keep that from happening. Regardless, Moore has only slowed a little off his red-hot start to training camp. "He's been tremendous," coach Hue Jackson said. "He belongs." We don't think Moore is a mere camp darling, making him worth a flier in most 12-team fantasy formats.

I'm on the Jacoby Ford train :drive:
I am on the "nobody on the team" train.
Scored more points than the Saints last year, you sure there's nothing there? And take it from a non-Campbell fan, he has looked a lot better this year. Heck, he looked better in the 2nd half of last year. I expect no Pro Bowl numbers from him or anything, but he will do enough to make some guys fantasy relevant. In general, I have said that Denarius is a keeper/dynasty move, because there is too much uncertainty at WR, too many guys they like, no clear rotation. We haven't seen how much work Denarius gets when Murphy and Ford are healthy. So redraft is tough for me to get behind. However, one of the things we've been discussing in the Raider thread is that while Campbell looks a lot better, his deep ball is still not great. I don't think Hue/Saunders will have him chucking bombs all day, it's not his strength. Where he has actually looked like a good QB is on short and intermediate stuff. And that's not Ford/DHB/Murphy. That's Chaz/McFadden/Moore (from what little we have seen). Can't count on Chaz, obviously. Moore might wind up leading the team in receptions. His build reminds me of Harrison. I still think a redraft team shouldn't consider him until 50 WRs or so are gone, but not a bad little 5th or 6th WR.

Proud to say I picked up Moore in all 13 of my PPR dynasty leagues off the wire. Spent the entire season's balance on him. Yep, I'm all aboard! Choo choo!! :drive:

Took Jacquizz Rodgers at 2.10 of a dynasty league last Sunday and traded for Denarius with the owner who drafted him at 3.03 who had Turner and Snellling. All aboard the Moore train!!!

Why didn't you just draft Moore in the first place?
Because he took Jacquizz Rodgers ?
...He drafted Rodgers, and then turned around and traded him to the Turner/Snelling owner for a guy in Moore who was still on the board when he made his pick in the first place. That's what I mean.

The 'effortless' summer of Denarius Moore

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jason Campbell knew the Oakland Raiders had a draft steal before the team’s coaching staff did.

A month after the Raiders took the intriguing, but perhaps inconsistent, Denarius Moore in the fifth round of the draft, he quickly drew attention from his new quarterback at a player-organized camp in Georgia during the lockout. As soon as he started throwing passes to his assembled receivers, Campbell wanted to know more about Moore, a 5-foot-11, 194-pound Tennessee product.

“He immediately caught my eye,” Campbell said this week. “I said ‘we need to get some plays for this kid.’ From the first day, it was effortless for him.”

Moore has been the story of Oakland’s camp. He went from being a late-round project with long-term possibilities to a player who looks ready to help the team right away. There is a chance he will start for Oakland in the regular-season opener Sept. 12 at Denver in the second half of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. If Moore is not starting for the Silver and Black early in the season, he will certainly be in the top of part of the Raiders’ receiving rotation.

The Raiders are going to ride Moore until he proves him he was a training-camp fluke. There’s a growing sense that will never happen.

“He’s been tremendous,” Oakland coach Hue Jackson said. “He belongs.”

Moore has impressed the Raiders with his top-notch hands and his crisp route-running ability. He opened eyes early in camp by making every possible catch. Then, it happened on a daily basis. Local reporters have written that Moore is often the best player on the practice field, regardless of position. Now it is a major happening in practice if Moore actually drops a pass.

More importantly, the preseason has not proven to be too much for Moore. Performing well in camp is one thing. Doing it against other first-string defenses is another. Moore has made an impact in all three of Oakland’s preseason games.

“The game isn’t too big for him,” Campbell said. “He’s been just as good in games as he has in practice. Again, the word that comes up most to me is 'effortless.’ He’s just so smooth for a rookie.”

I watched Moore closely last week against New Orleans. He looks like a complete player. He ran perfect routes and was active in the run game, delivering some nice blocks, which is not always a given for a young receiver. He looked like a complete, confident player.

Oakland’s potential for fast success is ironic. The team gave Darrius Heyward-Bey $23 million guaranteed when it drafted him with the No. 7 overall pick in 2009. Heyward-Bey has yet to develop and is in danger of falling behind this potential draft mega-steal.

So how does a talent like Moore slip all the way to the fifth round?

Moore was inconsistent at Tennessee. He had two 200-yard-plus games, but there were games in which he didn’t make an impact. Still, he averaged 20.9 yards per catch on 47 catches last season and finished strong.

Scouts Inc. gave him a sixth-round grade. In Mel Kiper’s draft book, he rated Moore as the 20th best prospect at receiver. NFL teams clearly agreed with those assessments, and he lasted all the way until the No. 148 overall pick.

“A lot of times success depends on the fit and I like this fit,” Kevin Weidl of Scouts Inc, said. “He is a Raider-like receiver. He fits the system. It doesn’t surprise me that he is having success. He has great hands and he runs good routes. There have been questions about consistency and the tightness with the way he runs and questions about his toughness, but we looked at him as a guy with big potential. Sometimes, it just happens quickly.”

Added Steve Muench of Scouts Inc.: “There were things that he did very well, so I can see why the team is excited about him. The question has and will be can he do it on a regular basis.”

Of course, we won’t know that answer until Moore plays in the regular season, but, so far, he is on our radar and that’s not always the case for a fifth-round pick. Moore, a soft-spoken player who had a reputation at Tennessee as being coachable and a good teammate, deserves credit for not allowing his preseason success to get to his head. He is simply going out to practice each day with improvement on his mind.

“Coaches say I’m doing a good job, players say I’m doing a good job,” Moore said. “So, I guess I’m fitting in pretty well with the team right now.”

Actually, Denarius, you’ve fit in since May.
