DeSean Jackson Released by the Eagles (1 Viewer)

dallas giants denver packers all great landing spots
How Tanner? This guy is wanted on murder charges and has no support from his current team? That's what the media and many posters are saying in here. Why didn't teams step up and trade a mid to late round pick for him so they are not competing for his services now?

I'm just asking questions because you can't have it both way and none of this is directed at you or anyone individually. I blame the media a lot including Twitter also known as the National Enquirer for news that has become a bible for a lot of folks in 21st Century.

-"You've come a long way Baby!"
i am consufed at the trade offers thing you keep hitting on

do you think there were great offers?
Apparently NO OFFERS

Who is suggesting he will be brought up on murder charges?

This is the first i have hear anyone allege Irsay was a dealer.

The league has taken no action on D.JAcks

Along with the possible gang issues were continual holdouts, missing meetings, and strife with the new regime

not all situations are the same

if he paid a price it was completely of his own doing.
Yo BD, read the news on Irsay and some of the investigative facts people are finding out about his arrest. It had to be tough for the police to want to arrest the owner of their beloved Colts but he gave them almost no choice. Yes I'm reading into it a little but it is based on a lot of facts that have been reported, more than I care to link and goo over line by line. Read up on it though, it's very damaging for him and I don't think many players would be looking forward to the 2014 season with this kind of rap sheet in the off season. Why should an NFL owner not abide by the same code of conduct and rules as the players he employs?
so

what you are #####ing about everyone doing is what you are doing. and the nfl has not ruled on him yet, so your presumption they will go light is conjecture as well

and news flash, bosses are often held to different standards than their employees. that's life.

so why does that piss you off?

Seriously. There is ZERO chance of the pats signing desean. Not now with gang questions AND former teammates not stepping up to defend him.
They had Aquib Talib on the team and he pulled a gun on his own family before being shipped off by the Bucs. Pats are not above signing anyone they feel can help them win.

Zero? The reason the Pats don't sign Desean has more to do with the size of the contract than character issues. They did interview Britt.

Mr. Jackson, please pickup the white courtesy phone. You have a phone call from Mr. Belichick.
With these suspected gang ties, after what happened with Aaron Hernandez, I would be SHOCKED if the Patriots signed Jackson. I don't see Bob Kraft allowing it.
I agree.
The Hernandez thing isn't even a year old. The Patriots wouldn't sign Desean if he offered to pay them to play. Will the Patriots take another chance in the future, probably, but the Hernandez thing is too new fresh in their minds to do it this year.
They just had Kenny Britt in to kick the tires. He's infinitely worse than Jackson, at least based on the info available now.
They didn't sign and as a matter of fact they said they weren't going to. Even if they would have signed Britt it would have been a deal where they could have cut him at any minute and not done much damage to the cap. Desean will want/make enough money so that won't be possible.

The other angle is Britt was released because his contract was up and his poor play, Jackson was released after having a pro bowl season and still in the prime of his career. This is a horrible comparison.
Not intending to compare the two in any way at all. Just pointing out that bringing Britt in at all might suggest that they don't really care a ton about off field nonsense. Not that any team really does. Hernandez was not predictable or foreseeable in any way -- and what he did doesn't reflect on the NFL or the Patriots at all for most reasonable people. Not saying the Pats are likely to go get DeSean Jackson or anything, but it's not because they have a higher standard than anyone else on off field behavior.

and if you read the Djackson news you'd come to a conclusion, which is what people have done

either that is ok or it is not

Let me just make sure I have this straight(fat chance)...

A 3 time Pro Bowler, a guy with 3 different 1,000+ yd seasons and 2 more 900+, a guy coming off a career year was just released? No trade offer could be made even though most of his contract was gobbled up by Philly?

It's hard to imagine that no team out there was willing to grab this guy for a 4th, 5th, 6th round pick. Maybe Philly didn't even want a late round pick at a certain point and didn't want to tarnish potential future deals by delivering damaged goods.

That said, Jackson was not on the brink of a Goodell season suspension that I have read anywhere. And where is all this locker room banter that he is an awful teammate coming from? I know he is Mr Showboat at times but what quality WR or recent Hall of Fame inductees aren't? Michael Irvin, C.Carter, both of them wanted the spotlight all the time. Terrell Owens and Randy Moss are going in undoubtedly, they were both big mouths or had antics they pulled at different points in their careers.

I'm not defending Jackson over allegations I don't fully understand but it sure seems like players are paying the price over Aaron Stinking Hernandez from last season.

And while we are on the topic of bad behavior...when is Colts owner Jim Irsay going to be forced to sell his team for drug trafficking? Do you get a golden ticket if you are the owner? His crimes are far worse than having a bad attitude. He was found with a tons of drugs, lots of cash, an unmarked car that doesn't seem to be his or something that would blend in and not cause much attention...I want to see that dealt with first and then move down form there. To me that is the worst of the 2014 off season bad boy moves to this point.

People are insinuating that DeSean Jackson is going to be brought up on murder charges. Why? Because he founded a rap group company? Is that the smoking gun these days? Quite the double standard as usual in the NFL, SP, and the media.
The flip of that would be that why would an up and coming team, with a chance to run a historic offense get rid of one of the key components that makes that offense so potentially dangerous unless there was something there?

This isn't about showboating, loud mouthing or wanting spotlight. When the news broke Sun. that they were contemplating releasing him... a lot of Philly sports commentators said it was a personal issue that involved shady aspects of his life.
And other posters are wondering where I am drawing the murder references but that is essentially what you and others are hinting at. That Philly knows some things and their hand was forced. I'm not saying they don't or that these are lies but Twitter fuels a lot of this, and this thread is filled with a lot of opinions and assumptions with very few facts.

People who jump on me about Irsay...folks we have an arrest report and a lot of facts out there in the media...all we have is conjecture for the most part on DeSean Jackson. But Jackson is a black man with lots of tattoos who owns a rap music business so whatever is whispered on Twitter must be true, right?

DOUBLE STANDARD all day, check raise the turn and I'm ALL IN!!!

ludicrous

you are jumping to conclusions and making connections to ##### at other people about doing the same thing. this seems like an "i want to rant" rant

Your inability to have a conversation or post back and forth and dismiss others as ridiculous is absurd. I was urging you to do some research into Irsay, do as you like but I knew about jackson being released a month ago. Scotty over at FFToolbox was telling anyone who would listen. This isn't a surprise but the manner in which it is being handled on Twitter and the media coupled with how easily you all seem to go with the media flow is what is disheartening to me.

As I posted in the Eagle thread:

If Jackson did indeed have gang affiliations, and missed meetings hanging with said friends, I have absolutely no problem with this move.Guys who openly support and affiliate with gangs SHOULD have a hard time getting and keeping a job, and an NFL roster should be no different. Huge KUDOS to Kelly and the Eagles brass for making a tough move.
Fly Eagles Fly.

For those insisting on KC. Howard Eskin, long time sports reporter in Philly, who was in Reid's back pocket while he was here reported earlier that the Eagles had spoke to KC about a trade and Reid's response was absolutley not.

Eagles didn't pop this stuff from Twitter rumors and innuendo. They have a security team and their "analysis" has been going on for awhile. Everything hasn't come out yet. As to whether or not Jackson's involved in murder.....I don't know. Two of his friends have been. He's had 250,000 stolen from his house.

The Eagles are cheap......they aren't taking a 4 million cap hit AND removing a key component of their Offense because of some stupid gang sign flashed in a game. There's something there.

Hey Rene, how about NFL owners who traffic drugs? A lot of players in the NFL hang out with bad dudes or folks. Of course Jackson will say he doesn't hang out with the crips or whoever...should we believe him? A lot of players have done a lot of thing over the history of the NFL, should we assume that Jackson is guilty of these rumors? Has he been arrested for anything that would lead us to believe he is a major threat to society?

Is it possible Kelly just doesn't like DeSean for a multitude of VALID(I stress that) reasons and wanted him gone one way or the other and the owner agreed so they sent a clear message that no one is above missing team meeting no matter what the reasons are?

Now you know how I feel. Let's take a step back, not sure we are on different sides of the fence here. I just want to have a conversation, not rant and rave.

For those insisting on KC. Howard Eskin, long time sports reporter in Philly, who was in Reid's back pocket while he was here reported earlier that the Eagles had spoke to KC about a trade and Reid's response was absolutley not.
Plus KC is retooling and I would think they want to grab one of the top 4-5 WR prospects in the draft like many other teams who are not wanting to commit big dollars to WR1/WR2 types if they can find something in the draft for considerably less. Miami is the only team dumb enough to pay a WR $17 Million a year. Bowe is still decent and Reid knows that Smith has some limitations. A field stretcher like Jackson would not serve them well right now.

For those insisting on KC. Howard Eskin, long time sports reporter in Philly, who was in Reid's back pocket while he was here reported earlier that the Eagles had spoke to KC about a trade and Reid's response was absolutl
DeSean wearing red could be viewed as a sign of disrespect.

Gang connections, locker room cancer, complains about contract right after hes gets one... kind of understand where the Eagles are coming from.

Your posts are great, I agree with your assumptions mostly but I want to see some hard facts because it seems rather easy to derail a guy right now.

250,000...I remember reading that and thinking who keeps that much cash in the house?

I'm giving the Eagle the benefit of the doubt here. Rumors have been flying for a while, and I find it hard to believe that ANYONE with even an ounce of sense would flash gang signs after the Hernandez incident. The fact that he's been seen hanging with known gang members and flashing signs might be circumstantial, but it's enough for me. At the very best, he's a moron I wouldn't want working with me. At the worst, he's an absolute thug who shouldn't be working anywhere respectable. The fact that the Eagles couldn't find a trade partner is very telling. The fact that they did this at all is very telling. We haven't heard everything, but only an absolute fool would assume there's nothing more to tell.

Either way- I'm OK with getting rid of him.

thats about a trade, everyone knew that Philly was cutting him and why trade something for someone when you can get him in exchange for nothing?
And compete with 10 other teams possibly? If you can get a Pro Bowler for a middle round pick, sign me up. There has to be a lot more to this story. I'll be shocked if Jackson signs with another team right away.

I guess that's one way to take it but the way he told the story was about not wanting the player himself. Implying Reid had already put up with his bull#### and doesn't want anymore part of it.

What's this now? :whoosh:

Bottom line: Until we learn more, the Eagles deserve any benefit of the doubt on this one, not DeSean Jackson.

You see this one MOP?

Jason Kelce @Jkelce Follow

We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldn't be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly

His team-mates don't have his back. Not sure there could be anything more damning than that.
Hometown Cleveland, Univ of Cinci, MidWest values, white dude, just signed a new deal and is probably happy with Philly as he comes off a rookie contract. Just saying you have to look at all the angles here. I appreciate you posting that up.

The big difference is that in trading for him, he comes with his current $10 million / year contract. Signing him as a FA, the team has control over how much they're comfortable offering him. Also they get to bring him in and talk to him -- pick his brain and see how big the red flags really are.

I think that is your smoking gun. When that happened I remember thinking "Didn't he just get a new contract?"
More from Eskin in the same report about KC. He says DJacc is completely broke and wanted to renegotiate to get more money up front in a signing bonus. Saying he burned though 15m and is basically living a paycheck to paycheck life.

Also on the house robbery. He reported that police believe there was no money in the house that it's a possible fabrication. Left behind in the house were his car keys and about $100 in plain view. Police have been trying to contact Desean for months but he won't return their calls. There's something real fishy about that whole episode too.

And just for the record, I appreciate the Eagles fans in the SP, very knowledgable group, I applaud Kelly and what he has done so far. Benefit of the doubt, perhaps but I don't trust the NFL, Goodell, and a bunch of owners that seem OK with a reported drug trafficker running one of their franchises.

It could be as simple as Jackson #####ed about his contract again and is a total moron as some of you posted. Maybe Kelly has a no moron policy for the club.

If it were just the contract and goofball situations that happen to him, if there is absolutely no involvement in illegal activity outside of pot smoking...are you 100% OK with just letting Jackson walk out the door?

I thought posters reported tat Philly ate most of that contract. Only had about $1M on the hook for, yes/no?

DeSean Jackson said Monday he wants the Eagles to renegotiate his contract and give him a raise.

In March of 2012, Jackson signed a five-year, $48.2 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed. He's owed $10.25 million in 2014 base salary and a total of $30.5 million in salary plus workout bonuses over the next three years. But as he comes off a career-best season, he wants more. "I definitely feel like it's deserving," Jackson said. "I'm proven in this league, and after this past year, went out there, no distractions, and just really put it all in for my team and went out there and had a lot of success, so we’ll see how it goes." D-Jax has absolutely no leverage here. He's being compensated at a rate in line with the elite players at his position and is under contract through 2016. Skipping OTAs and minicamps won't do anyone any good.

No-I wouldn't be and I'm betting few Eagles fans would be.

But there's an awful lot of smoke here, and hanging with gang members goes a little bit beyond "goofball" and straight into stupid.

Maybe Jackson asked to be cut. That way his contract would be voided and he could renegotiate for a new contract and bonus? (if he really is broke) Brilliant!

:tinfoilhat:

And just for the record, I appreciate the Eagles fans in the SP, very knowledgable group, I applaud Kelly and what he has done so far. Benefit of the doubt, perhaps but I don't trust the NFL, Goodell, and a bunch of owners that seem OK with a reported drug trafficker running one of their franchises.

It could be as simple as Jackson #####ed about his contract again and is a total moron as some of you posted. Maybe Kelly has a no moron policy for the club.

Not sure why you keep bringing up Irsay as if it's relevant at all to DeSean Jackson. It's a little bit harder to fire the owner than an employee. And no kidding there's a double standard -- but it's not a black / white thing -- it's because Irsay is worth about a billion dollars. They call that "eff you" money for a reason -- and that's not just in the NFL but across the board everywhere.

Gang connections, locker room cancer, complains about contract right after hes gets one... kind of understand where the Eagles are coming from.
I think that is your smoking gun. When that happened I remember thinking "Didn't he just get a new contract?"

Thanks Kelly, that is a once in a career type contract. The organization stepped up(Sorry JB) and did what they were supposed to do. I think this is less about gangs and more about an imbecile who couldn't manage money. I always say money makes good people better and bad people worse. Seems like DJ falls into the 2nd category. And he might be one of those people who never actually pulls the trigger, never actually throws the punch, but trouble just somehow follows him.

But all that said, if it is mainly due to him being a knucklehead I can't imagine all 31 other teams just dismissing him and saying not interested. If the Twitter rumors are proved to be false or if Jackson is never brought up on criminal charges for much, I'm not sure Philly is making a great move. I get the sense fans feel they can go 10-6 without Jackson in 2014. I'm not ready to total up wins and losses but I would say this is very damaging for that offense right now. He fit that offense well and opened up a lot of things for the 2nd and 3rd receivers. I don't see Riley Cooper a a #1. And let's not forget how bad Cooper looked going into 2014, most were surprised he kept a job after angering several teammates. The locker room didn't want him either at that point and time, so let's not post things like "If the locker room wanted him he would be there" Players currently employed by their team do not make personnel decisions last time I checked.

He was gel on possession of drug charges, 4 different ones that could become felony charges and carry 12 years in prison. F U cufflinks or not, he could face jail time. He was found with almost $30,000 in a briefcase and laundry bag along with prescription medications inside for Xanex, Darvocet, Valium, Ambien, and Ativan. I believe I also read oxycodone but I don't have the info handy at the moment.

No one person is buying $30,000 or more of drugs for personal consumption, that's insane to believe that. he deserves to be charged with 4 felonies just as any NFL player would be, you, myself, he is not above the law.

@AlbertBreer: Issues w/gangs have been on the league's radar for a long time -- NFL brought in FBI and DEA agents in 2007 to make a presentation to teams.

@AlbertBreer: During the 2-hour presentation, the FBI and DEA explained to NFL clubs how to see gang affiliation thru tattoos, hand signals, other coding.

@AlbertBreer: That's not to say DeSean is or isn't involved. Or even that Hernandez was or wasn't. Just that the clubs/NFL are very sensitive to gang ties

@ByDavidMurphy: Eagles security's job is to find #### out and fix it. They have serious connects. Teams don't act against self-interest for the hell of it
