Ok then here goes

21. Judy Garland- Judy at Carnegie Hall(1961)

”The Man that Got Away”

”The Trolley Song”

Judy with a big orchestra at her absolute best, before the pills and booze destroyed her.
I had that on my radar for a long time but didn't expect it to get poached. Nice call.

Speaking of my daughter, I was rocking the playlist shuffle on our way to daycare the other day.  Had a good stretch of songs come up:

Time to Pretend = "this is my favorite song ever!  I like the weird noises"

Green Light = "I love this song too!"  (it's on her playlist, so she sings the chorus)

Something else comes up that I can't quite remember, but we liked it and talked about the singing.

Then... some Rush came on and I asked her what she thought.  "I don't like her singing"  :lmao:

All this Morning Muse Talk is making me finally pull the trigger. I thought everyone hated them so I could wait longer, but turns out only most of you hate them. Yo Mama selects:

39.19 - Muse - Absolution (2004)

Having connection issues this morning so I’m not typing out the whole track list. As mentioned before, these guys put on a great show. First time I saw them I was trying out new edibles and made the classic mistake of taking more before I felt the first round kick in - man they went crazy with lights and lasers and stuff falling from the ceiling. It was wild. Passing on the more popular Time is Running Out to go with two more  :headbang:  songs.

Stockholm Syndrome

Hysteria

No surprise, but that was going to be my next pick too, with those 2 songs.   Maybe I should have waited on the Muse praise for after my selection.

I don't understand what's so polarizing about this group.

39.23 - Imperial Bedroom - Elvis Costello and the Attractions (1982)

Drafted at 3.12 by @Abrantes (This Year's Model), 8.01 by @cosjobs (My Aim is True w/out the Attractions) and 8.23 by @mphtrilogy (Armed Forces)

I should have named Costello as one of my two desert island artists last night.  His catalog is as deep and varied as anyone's and even Costello's failed experiments are always fascinating.

Imperial Bedroom is top-tier Costello for me.  It's certainly top five and might be as high as three if you get me on the right day.  The album boasts some of Declan's cleverest wordplay and standout accompaniment from the Attractions, especially Steve Nieve who did the arranging as well.  Producer Geoff Emerick had worked with George Martin on the Beatles' recordings and gives Imperial Bedroom a similar Beatlesesque flair.

At the start of his career, Costello was often lumped in with the Punks because of time and place but he never really fit the mold.  Imperial Bedroom showed the world the breadth of his talent.

who is your 2nd DID artist?  I'm with you on EC

38.33 Something/Anything? - Todd Rundgren (1972)

A double LP. The first three sides are full of lush balladry and love songs - you can tell he and Stevie Wonder were listening to each other.. The fourth side stretches out into some of what he'd do the next year on A Wizard......

"I Saw The Light"

"It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference"

39.08 Backstabbers - The O'Jays (1972)

Done just before Gamble & Huff got REALLY full of themselves, this one's a little looser than what they'd produce in the future. Lots of great gospelly pop/R&B goodness here. Gotta go chalk here, though. Two stone classics

"Backstabbers"

"Love Train"
mainlining some TSOP.

my bff who still sends me CDs fell upon a Gamble & Huff box set a few yrs ago and burned em for me. if i wanted to have me a joyous day, i'd just load all four hours on the carousel (cant do it anymore - it's all headphones now w peeps this old around) and get them woofers pounding and danced around doing my dailies until i "TURN EM OFF!"

Rd 39

School's Out - Alice Cooper (1972)

i usually go in another direction with Coop, but this one has really grown on me ... thematic to all things "growing up" outta brattiness into an adulthood of recklessness, which i can dig very much.

the band is it's usual tight self - Buxton, Bruce, Dunaway, Smiff - don't think they get nearly enough credit for how incredible they were behind Alice ... there are some major chops up on here.

punky, trashy vibe ... all gutter and grime, including the sleaziest Buxton guitar ever laid down ... it's a cohesive mess of misguided youth and petulance, plus i get to find uses for the paper panties that adorned the platter packaging  - yeah, i'll take this trash to the island.

Luney Tune  that sleazy axe

Gutter Cat vs The Jets  Vince was a frustrated B'way cat

PS- PLZ TO ADD TO SPOTTY ✌

I'm here and working on pick.

I've just found out about these guys. They recorded with Leon Bridges on "Texas Sun" (a cool song). I need to dive deeper into their stuff
They're mostly instrumental before Leon Bridges collab.  Their new album due at the end of this month sounds like it will have alot more vocals.

Yeah, they are getting some airplay now on left-of-the-dial channels. I listen to WXPN a lot these days, and they are in semi-regular rotation.

39/24

Van Halen - Women and Children First(1980)

And the Cradle Will Rock

Everybody Wants Some

Missed out on Fair Warning so going with this instead.

39.20 The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land

(1997)

debated between 3 prodigy albums, but this is the one where Keith Flint put his stamp on it. If I'm on the island I'm going to want some electronic music and this was an entry point in the late 90s.

Songs:

Breathe

Climbatize
