Campari + your choice of gin + your choice of sweet vermouth in equal parts, stir with ice, throw in an orange peel if you've got it. Easy as it gets. Purists will say "equal parts always", but adding a little bit more gin is perfect too.

As far as gin, I've been having a lot of YVY Mar, a Brazilian gin I love, but anything will do. Bombay, Beefeater, Tanqueray etc. all work great.

Not as much variety when it comes to sweet vermouth down here, so I go with cheapo Cinzano.
You ever try an Old Pal?  It's a go-to for me, Negroni-ish without the gin.  2:1:1 of bourbon, Campari, and dry vermouth.  Love it.

Sitting out on the porch with a beer, got the oven cranking about to throw down some homemade pizzas once my dough rests, gonna make some all day Alton Brown baked beans tomorrow, my sister is coming over and bringing my adorable 15-month old nephew.  Probably play some video games, listen to music tonight and tomorrow.  This weekend is really looking up.

If you want to the other way, a Bijou is another similar drink.  The gin and vermouth but substitute green Chartreuse for the Campari.  I've also seen recipes using a mixture of Chartreuse and Campari.

Was aware of it and had the recipe bookmarked as a reminder. Actually remembered it yesterday after having my old fashioned. Will definitely give it a try.

2 big discoveries for me so far are Surfjan Stevens and Pulp. I had downloaded Illinois based on the description. Listened on a long drive and loved it. Pulp I only heard Razzamatazz on the draft mix so far but downloaded that record now.

41.23 - CrazySexyCool - TLC  (1994)

If you've ever seen my Spotify profile picture, you'll know how much I love this group.  They're a singles act obviously but this their best album.  Plus I don't think I've drafted an album with skits until now.

Creep

Waterfalls
The spreadsheet shows your having ECM Selected Signs something something for Round 41.  It is possible I messed something up whilst drunk last night.  Please advise.

Maybe the one listed there was meant to be Round 40, since there's nothing entered there.

42.35 Nocturnes, Frederick Chopin, The Chopin Collection, Arthur Rubinstein (1994 Remaster)

For several years, i've taken a month every early summer to work on a vampire novel. It's about the 3rd Dracul brother, known as The Monk. A potion created by an alchemist in order to help the family keep both Hungary and the Ottomans at bay turned the entire reigning warrior family of Wallachia undead, but now only this guy and his baby brother Radu remain. The brother has been wreaking havoc in the Arab world to cover his personal body count for years, while The Monk - who is completely bored with the necessities of his "hunger" after more than half a millenium - makes a trip to Washington to repair some of the diplomatic damage Radu has done and gets caught up in a couple of intrigues, including DARPA becoming interested in acquiring genetic material from a 600yo vampire.

Each year, all i've had to do to get in the writing spirit on this project is to hear Mr Rubenstein caress the opening notes of the Op 9, #1, but DC is apparently too silly these days for me to get into the spirit of serious darkness i require. I always listen to one thing (it's been marimba music, Mogwai, Willis Alan Ramsey, lotsa things) to set the template for a project, but i may have to stray into the mazurkas to find the psych this time.

My favorite on here, along with "Maybe I'm Amazed," is "Junk."  :)

I have post-Beatles Paul and George on my island, but no John yet.
or Ringo.
:oldunsure:  Sorry, Ringo.
Let's just do this thing.

Hear me out - I know some of this album is hard to take, but it also contains four of my absolute favorite John Lennon solo songs.  Since John is my favorite Beatle musically, but my top few choices were taken earlier, I'm going with:

42.something - John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy (1980)

I'm selecting these two songs to keep up the theme I introduced above!

(Just Like) Starting Over

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

All right, I'm going to switch in Watching the Wheels instead, since it's my favorite.  I won't do the parentheses shtick.

love it. STILL can't listen to it....

I'm going to check because it's going to drive me nuts all night.  It was only three years ago in 2019.
It was Ringo tackling the Great American Songbook after I listened to Dylan's Triplicate.

From December 11, 2019

I think the Bosley diaper experiment is ending in failure.  We went out to see X last night and were away for about four hours.  In that time he somehow managed to escape the diaper and pee on the floor in front of our bedroom.  When I came in the door after the show it played out like a play in two acts:  first the discarded diaper and about five feet further along the puddle.
Man, I miss that pup.

I love this album. When I was a kid I remember making fun of the Yoko songs - so for many years I only sought out the John songs. But about two years ago I listened to the whole thing and actually liked the Yoko songs and I can see she was kind of influential to some 80s bands that came after. I love the whole thing now and the John songs are classics.

Only the Yoko parts are hard to take. Starting Over and Watching the Wheels are my favs from this album.

Heartbreaking and understandable.

Same here, especially coming to a Yoko appreciation later.  I should have said that parts of the album are hard "for some people to take."  It's not hard for me, either.  I didn't even choose my favorite songs because I was doing the parentheses thing, and yet those two are outstanding, too.
