Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (1 Viewer)

That sounds dismissive.  Granted Isbell has a great career going on, 7 out of 10 of my favorite DBT songs are Mike Cooley songs.
It's fair.. I'm a much bigger Isbell ban that DBT's fan. I really only love the three DBT albums Isbell is on, but I'm sure that's more than just him being there.

Ok, I am two gins in and 1/2 through A Sailor's Guide to Earth.

I was completely not expecting a Nirvana cover in the middle of this...

I can't wait for you to get through Call to Arms again then kick right into Sound & Fury. You'll be rocking out 10 minutes in and forget you're even listening to 'country '

They seem to be.  No biggie, just strange.

Shuffle is doing kindly by me tonight

Harness Your Hopes - Pavement - I went through a big Pavement phase a few years back, still like them but listen to them less these days, which is good because this sounding new and fresh but still distinctly Pavement. It says b-side on the playlist, are we sure? It sounds familiar but also new and fresh 14/10

Tear in Your Hand - Tori Amos - I purposely didn't look at who this was, to see if I could figure it out. My guess was Fiona Apple, close, maybe? I do really like this, I was waiting for it to get bigger and then it did, maybe some Kate Bush in here as well. Love the build and then quiet/loud dynamics. 13/10

<I skipped a song>

The Bells of Rhymney - The Byrds - Like The Byrds, like this song, you definitely get their signature sound here. Shares a lot of DNA with I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better but doesn't quite reach the same peak 12/10
;)

The Rat - The Walkmen - Seriously, what do I even say here. Pretty close to the peak song from my peak era of music. When I used to go out, I would know everyone that I saw
Now I go out alone if I go out at all
15/10

Box of Rain - The Grateful Dead - Listening to this with no baggage of who the artist is, it's a nice country rock song with some beautiful harmonies. I could use more of a chorus but I would describe this as "pretty" and pleasing and definitely go in for repeat listens. 12/10

Change Yr Mind - LCD Soundsystem - I drafted an LCD Soundsystem album so I'm in the tank for them but I wasn't all in on American Dream.  I lean to "Tonite" and "Call the Police", this is solid but they have created such high expectations for themselves. 12/10

48.31 - A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990)

I figured Low End Theory would go pretty early.  This is basically my 1b ATCQ album after Low End, I gambled that Midnight Marauders would go before this and this might fall.  Can't fault any of em.  No better time than now to scoop this one up.

"Can I Kick It?"

"Bonita Applebum"
Another one I thought was gone. I listened to the one more than any of their others

Brother brother brother lucien you like no other

Posting my last pick and calling it a night. Really liked these guys up until Hi Fidelity, then they got to commercial and boring. Going with a live collection because these versions rock and get some extra good songs too.

REO Speedwagon-  You Get What You Play For(1977)

Golden Country

And last song people.....

Riding the Storm Out

It wasn't a PIK song I skipped. An artist I already said I didn't like in another shuffle but don't want to dump on people's picks. And he had 3 albums drafted here so obviously I'm the one missing it.

Well, I originally said Sound & Fury   I got a good laugh a few minutes ago when I read how deep you were into Sailor, so I decided to have some fun.
:lmao:   - ####, I completely misread that and thought you were telling me to listen to this based on the two songs I already heard.

I hate country too and listened to Sound and Fury and liked it enough to listen again. The music isn't really country which is a huge plus and then there is weird/cool Pink Floyd type stuff woven in.

If The Walkman was who I would have drafted, that's quite possible. Marco got them, I think. I probably would have drafted Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, though. I love the ominous strains of "They're Winning."

They're winning again/I know it's not fair...but what is?

If i had joined, American Beauty would have been a top four pick. I think I would have picked them before simey.

Yeah, we will for sure put all the control on the person doing the reviewing.   If you want to ask the drafter for suggestions - cool.  If there is stuff on there you wanted to get to - cool.
I like the structure of the 1/1/1.  Or a 2/2/2.  But more structured like that.

Nah, I suggested Sound & Fury because I thought that may be more of your wheelhouse. Sailor was his first detour away from country. Sound & Fury was a next level giant #### you to Nashville (among other things)

47.31 Otis Redding - Live in London and Paris (1967)

Backed by Booker T. & The MGs!
BTW, this was my 47th pick but it was never put on the spreadsheet.  I tried but was rightfully rejected!

Puts the #### in dixie and the #### in country, huh?

eta* I actually heard that phrase from Hank Williams IV. It's apparently a shopworn but effective joke in Nashville about the music industry there.

I like the idea of the island resident giving a suggestion. I can open myself up to to something for 45 mins to an hour knowingit really hit someone the right way

Well, I guess I am doing 2 Sturgill albums and 6 total!!   Just not 2 in the same night.

So, @MAC_32 - here is what I am tackling from your island:

Dumb ###, I can't read extra credit = A Sailor's Guide to Earth

But also..

Sturgill Simpson - Sound & Fury

Greta Van Fleet - From the Fires (This is the right one, right???)

Incubus - SCIENCE     I thought about this, and I remember listening to it a decade+ ago, but couldn't name a song or anyting from it, so I figured since it was first on your list....

Springsteen - The River.   Besides a couple albums and hits, Springsteen is a blind spot.   It was between this and your Simon and Garfunkel pick and surprisingly I new fewer songs on first glance from this.

fun. -  Some Nights.    I honestly have 0 clue what this is, genre or anyting.  Thought it would be fun to go into it that way.

**  My "shtick" for doing this is that I am going to try to treat this like the old physical media days as much as I can.  I will be looking at the album cover, sitting down with the album on my headphones, and looking at the lyrics as I go. **

I am getting tipsy, but what is the 3rd 2?

2 of your choosing, 2 of the drafter's choosing, and what?

Also, if the participants are down with this, I am all for whatever.

I will do this one too, like I posted above.  I popped on the first couple songs, and I am for sure down.  Right away it sounded different than A Sailor's Guide...

:lmao:  So, I really like this album too, but MAC is catching a break here with you being the one jumping into it. I won't give away what it is but I think you'll appreciate it just fine KP (and a few others may not). Maybe bring some gin to the listening session.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING IN THE MIX OF GETTING ANOTHER DRAFTER'S ISLAND ASSIGNED TO YOU FOR SOME SEXY, I MEAN ALBUM EXPLORING.

So far I have written down:

KA

Buffaloes

N.V.

Krista

Dr. Octopus.

IIronicallydon'tlov80s
Sure, I’ll give it a go. It’ll be a good way for me to hear some new stuff.

Oh #### - am I in for some cheesy pop goodness??

I have one pick left and no Dead.  I'm gonna have to fix that.

Oh, wow. You're not familiar with fun. Yeah, definitely give that a listen. I'm fascinated to see what you think.
