Duran Duran - Rio 1982

I am very pleased to get this here.  I have always enjoyed early Duran Duran, and will love having them on my island.  I am not going to take an obvious song (Hungry Like the Wolf). Instead I will take my favorite...

Save a Prayer

And the title track Rio

Great pick, including the songs. Save A Prayer is their best tune IMO. And Rio really showcases John Taylor's bass playing chops.

I will post songs in a little bit, as I am in the middle of an annoying cleaning project.   I will take a pair of 90s albums with some funky bass and great drumming to listen to:

23.40? :  RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK (1991)

24.01:  PRIMUS - FRIZZLE FRY (1990)

Even on the very rare occasion that I am able to partake, I have never done the wake and bake.  I am too much of a lightweight.

Just a ####ty cup of coffee and some good tunes to drown out the crabby kids this am for me.  ;)
i'm actually quite envious of those who can buzz upon waking ... as booze is now my only vice, can't say the prospects of a full bag on an hour after getting up would work ... at all.

only did it thrice in my life, all in prep for 6+ hour morning flights.

Killer disc though, no doubt about it

My best weed smoking memories will always be Sunday wake and bakes with the legendary CBS SUNDAY MORNING then head right into NFL / RedZone

What a perfect day..

I came to love this one later in life, so maybe I am not as tired of it as some are?  Surprised it lasted this long.

I will THINK about your song request.  I was going to try to go non-hits for this one and also like Naked in the Rain and The Greeting Song.

Have the Chili Peppers aged poorly with anyone else? When the mood is right I can spin some of their 80's stuff, but everything after makes my stomach churn.
Aged pretty poorly, yet this album was so epic, I can still jam it... ultimately had to pass though

Right before Seattle happened this showed up in my life and blew me the #### away, it might even be the last record that ever made my jaw drop, as it wouldn't be much longer before I became cynical and too cool for everything

I agree on your industrial take earlier as I have popped on a few of those for research in the last couple weeks, but obviously not on this one.   Like I said though - it's not something I really listened to a ton in HS when this was out besides trying to avoid Under the Bridge as that was everywhere.

You and @JZilla have nudged this one back up into giving it another shot. Looking through their catalog last week I know I have no interest in anything after, but maybe this one's still holding onto enough of their 80's sound that a few of them can make their way back onto my library. The non-singles anyway.

I was reading the Mark Lanegan book and he had a very unpleasant encounter with Anthony Kiedis' creep dad, and I took it as a sign to keep that off my list, which up to then I'd been undecided on

For me it seems like the RHCPs songs are either very good or very bad with not many in the just ok range. BSSM still holds up pretty well tho with lots of good things on it.

What are ya cleanin gb
Cleaning and rearranging Living Room.    Got an exercise bike to help the family get in mild shape, but need to clear space with the 2 tvs and assload of kids toys all around.

Just a ####ty rainy day that I would rather be doing something else.

Again - I am not a superfan or anything so what is the beef with Kiedis?  Just the voice or is he a super doosh?
The voice is stale for me, he's dooshy sure but there are dooshier dooshes in my regular rotation

I never really got into any of their other stuff

I still like RHCP in small doses. Not intentionally spotlighting.
I do too. I really only hear them when I'm listening to the radio. My favorite songs are probably Soul to Squeeze and Under the Bridge. I saw them back in 1985/86 in a bar at college. I remember them having a rubber chicken on the stage. I had no idea who they were, but they were wild.

I think I took Blood Sugar in the first few rounds of MOADID.  I can't even play them now.  His voice or whatever kills me now.

That was no rubber chicken

There are probably 4-6 RCHP songs I really like but they are all on different albums. As far as entire albums, the only one on my radar would be BSSM.
