This is easily their most winnable game. They should have defeated the Vikings in Minnesota if not for some questionable penalties at the end. I think it's their best chance. They also play NO at home, but Brees plays well indoors. Even if their D falls apart I think the Saints would outscore the Lions. If the Packers secure a wildcard spot (or the division somehow), they might rest their players in week 17. Those are both longshots, as either scenario would likely require a victory in that last week. But even if it happened, their backups might beat the Lions in Green Bay.With the extra time off, I say they take the Vikings to OT. Where it goes form there is anybody's guess.
Why is this game the most winnable? Lions already played the Packers hard in week 2, where only a pick six after a long Jackson run secured the win... with 3 minutes left to go in the game! Culpepper will have more time to work with the offense, and if the Lions are 0-15 they will be fighting for the last shred of dignity they have left, even if it's already in the trash can. The Lions hung 25 points on the Packers defense. The Vikings held them to half that...the Vikings defense is keeping them in this season. The Packers are the worst team left on their schedule. The Lions would have a better shot this week should the Williams' get suspended, however, but if not, then they will have a much better chance against the Pack. The Vikings are certainly NOT looking past the Lions thanks to the scare earlier in the year. The Vikings are not playing the same ball they did early in the season. The goal line stand followed up by a 99 yard TD pass shows that the Vikings are more than capable of stopping things before they are too far gone, and losing this week would be the very definition of letting the flood gates open.
