Detroit passing on Quinn ? (1 Viewer)

I have been thinking for several weeks that the Lions will take Adrian Peterson and for now I am sticking by that. The Lions have had horrible luck drafting earlys QBs and Kitna can be OK for them for a few seasons. They have had success on early RB in their history (Barry Sanders, Billy Sims). I think they will feel that AP is a special enough RB to take him. They will not need to rush Kevin Jones back and when he is ready they will have a great tandem in AP and KJ. This is my prediction at this time.

Aside from Thomas, the Lions didn't drop any names. Both Barry and Martz did say, however, that above all else they are looking for speed."Guys that can run," Martz said. "We need more speed, more receivers, backs." :lmao: typical Martz.Anyway, Calhoun is fast and they picked him in the 3rd Round IIRCI think the best fits would be Alan Branch, Gaines Adams/Jamaal Anderson, Reggie Nelson/LaRon Landry, Darelle Revis/Leon Hall. The biggest problem is that the BPA's will be Calvin Johnson and Joe Thomas (not including Brady Quinn or Russell whom apparantly they're not interested in).Trade down seems like the painfully obvious move, but it's tough to predict that.

I've been working on a two round mock draft, and for now, I am with Warhogs. Projecting Detroit is the biggest headache of any team right now. But, when I slipped AD in there, and thought about it at length, it felt right. Really talent is so crucial that needs need to be a very minor consideration with such a high pick. Martz has flat out called for WRs and RBs. RBs are very shallow this year but they have a shot at a truly great one. It may seem like madness with KJ, but that kind of depth and the opportunities it presents is never a bad thing.

The good news is, this pick will not be a secret by the time the draft rolls around. Things will clear up. I do think Thomas is a great possibility and the Detroit media is already setting the stage for Calvin Johnson. In a good way. It's almost as if a dozen feelers have been sent to the fanbase to clear a path for them to again take the WR. It would be an excellent pick.

If we take Martz at his word and eliminate QB as an option, all signs point to a three horse race between Joe Thomas, Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson. Johnson and Peterson don't appear to be "needs" in the true sense. Arizona needs OL help, so the trade down from 1.02 to 1.05 suggested by a previous poster has some merit. What do you think the odds are that, if such a trade was made, one of Peterson or Johnson would fall to the Lions at the 1.05 slot? Worst case scenario would be taking the best defensive player on their board. If they think like this at all, expect them to start sending out signals that they'll take Thomas if they stay at 1.02, thus forcing Arizona to make the move if they crave Thomas.

If they go stupid and take a QB, I hope it's Russell, instead of Quinn. If they don't address that O-Line they're going to need one hell of a mobile QB. :o

Just about every team would love to trade down. It always makes sense. Your scenario is great, but it is very very unlikely. Arizona, like every team with an early pick, has many needs. Chances are slim they would be interested in moving up for a tackle who is going to cost them value elsewhere and be much more expensive to sign. When I see a mock with a trade projected, I click away. It's hard enough to project players, and it always feels like an unrealistic expedient. Who Dat and Andy have both spoken out against the notion of projecting trading draft picks. Pat Kirwin wrote at article for NFL.com basically saying the teams sitting at 5-10 laugh at the notion of moving up, taking on all that risk, giving up something in order to do so, and getting hit with the heavy contract negotiations.
