Dez Should Have Carried the Shoulder Pads... (1 Viewer)

At some point you knew Roy E. Williams was going to get Dez Bryant.

In training camp, Bryant refused to carry Williams' shoulder pads, saying he didn't know anything about the tradition of rookies carrying a veteran player's shoulder pads.

Williams excused it saying just take the team out and get him some Nikes.

Monday night at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, Bryant took the offensive players out, then Williams invited the defensive players and when the night was over the bill came: $54,896.

"They got the young fella," said Bryant's adviser David Wells. "What could he say? He had to pay it unless he wanted to wash dishes for a month."

Players ordered basically everything on the menu and even took home bottles of wine.

After checking out the winebook, which is 90 pages, we wonder if anyone purchased the Chateau Latour for $9,000.

Then we figured a few players got that Plumpjack Reserve for $600.

No word from Bryant or Williams about their thoughts on how the evening went.

54k payday would change my life and these guys use it for practical jokes. Where did I go wrong?
When you were nine years old and thought it would be funny if you downed 3 twinkies in a 10 minute timeframe.

The shark move would have been to go double or nothing as to whether Williams would have another 2 TD or 100 yard game in a Dallas uniform. That would have cleared the room and saved Mr. Bryant 50 large.

Sounds like they all had a fun time. As a one time thing for Dez this is no big deal. Sounds like they all had a fun time at the rookie's expense and with the cash he's making this shouldn't affect him in the least.

Maybe this is something the players might have wanted to keep to themselves when there is a contract hold out FOR MORE MONEY in the near future. It just seems like they are going to get less support from the average fan who is struggling staying above water with the economic times right now. So I can see it now, when players are holding up there hands and pointing with their finger to show a sign of solidarity, they can now hold up a dinner check.

Yeah doubt that will happen sense Roy will be the #3 very soon cause Dez is the prez. Boy is a stud if ya didn't know!

The incumbent disguising his hate of the rook threatening his spot behind the old rookie ritual routine.

I think I saw this in a movie once.

Pretty sure I wouldn't want a financial advisor who thought that dishwashers made $54K in a month.

I think by adviser, they meant hanger-on... who Dez should have made do the dishes for him.

54k is still a ton of money. bryant's deal was worth around 8.5 million Before taxes. so that still is a chunk of change to him, whether they realize or not.

Probably. And I bet someone on the team that has the huge contract will slip him some cash to help out later on. But still, a lesson learned I guess...

Yeah, I definitely think Roy is threatened by Dez. But Dez will get the last laugh. Pretty soon he'll be putting up stud numbers and Roy will go back to putting up 2-25-0 lines and pouting about how he's "not in sync with his QB".

54 large? That don't phase a guy with his cash.
 thats trump change when u guarantee 13 million, not to mention endorsements which will by the time his career is over will pay him more then he ever made playing ball...

:blackdot:
This is probably the most misguided statement I have seen on this forum. If he continues to live like that he will be broke 5 years after he retires. Someone should introduce him to Allen Iverson, Antoine Walker, Lawrence Taylor, Latrell Sprewell, Scottie Pippen, etc... By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce. Within five years of retirement, an estimated 60% of former NBA players are broke. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...364/1/index.htm

You guys think this is bad, just want until you find out that Jeffrey Lurie bet Daniel Snyder $1 that he could turn an ex-con into a pro-bowl QB, while turning his franchise QB into a dogfight ring leader.

I'm sure he's planning on buying dinner for the team on a weekly basis.
