Divisional Round **Dallas at San Francisco** (-3.5, 46) (1 Viewer)

The big question will be about Dallas's defensive line and Purdy. If Purdy is kept clean, the game is another San Francisco blowout (they've been seriously just driving trucks through teams since Purdy took over). But if Dallas can get the rookie slightly off his game, they've got a real fighting chance.

Dak is no Geno, and I think that the 49ers secondary is the only susceptible part of their defense.

But the real matchup is the defensive line of Dallas and the offensive line of SF. That's where the rubber will meet the road, IMO.

I can see Purdy having his first bad game against a Dallas team that looks pretty determined. Seriously impressive road win yesterday.

This could be one for the ages!!!

Sound logic.

Agreed. If the Dallas pass rush can get to Purdy and rattle him a bit, a couple turnovers could flip the game.

I think it is also worth noting that despite their number 1 ranking and their talent, the 49ers defense is not the 2000 Ravens or '85 Bears. Seattle moved it on them pretty good for most of the first half the other day, and Jarrett freaking Stidham lit them up like a Christmas tree a few weeks ago, so they can be had at times.

No doubt that they were impressive yesterday but that’s the same Bucs squad that SF beat soundly, 35-7 earlier this year. Could be that TB just isn’t very good (sub 500 overall, 2-4 vs Playoff teams, 1 of those which came waaaaay back in week 1 vs Dallas) but the Cowboys did what they were supposed to do yesterday.

Damn the Vikes for not getting past NY! I’m definitely excited for this matchup however. Will be Purdy’s biggest test for sure. Here’s hoping he aces another one.

Where I could clearly see a blowout vs Seattle my early take on this one is that it will be close. With the battle in the trenches being the deciding factor.

I also feel while people keep waiting for Purdy to turn into a pumpkin we have witnessed the veteran Dak actually do so at times. Maybe Dallas fans can chime in to the why on that? I haven’t seen much of the team this year. Maybe the homer in me but I have more faith in Brock going into the game.

I’ll say 27-23, Niners win.

Theyve been bad the last 3 weeks. Theres no denying that. Even Arizona without any starters moved the ball on them in the 1st half.

They have looked down right mediocre the last couple of weeks. Not getting consistent pass rush and the DBs are not great...

Tampa wasn't very good. I don't think that's even up for debate. They played in the worst division in football and were still sub .500. Team just got old and slow overnight. With the exception of the one game against Carolina, their offense was so dink and dunk. Very easy to defend.

Looking forward to a fun game on Sunday.

Maybe, but we keep hearing that every week, so eventually it may happen. But not this week :shades:

It's the playoffs. Dallas should look determined. They played a formerly great QB last night who can't move and has an OL that just isn't very good, except for Wirfs. Easy pickings. Not going to be as easy on Sunday.

If Dak plays like Monday, they will beat SF. I think this is a harder game for SF than a potential Philly matchup. Dallas can match SF’s talent all over the field. This should be a great game.

Is it me or does it appear that the balance of power has shifted to the NFC? Everyone talks about the AFC being stacked, but when I look at complete teams: Offense, Defense, Special Teams - I see Dallas, San Fran, and Philly as a step ahead of the big 3 in the AFC.

At this point I would expect the winner of the NFC to be the favorite in the Super Bowl. That conference looks stacked at the top.

Why do you think that?

I'll add.

1. Philly would be at home
2. The Philly defense was better during the season. They can defend the run better, they defend the pass better, they pressure the QB better.
3. The Philly offense is much more dynamic than the Cowboys. The Eagles have 2 #1 WRs, a top 5 TE, a 1000 yard rusher, a top 5 QB.

Not only does Philly match the 49ers talent...I think they exceed them.

Dallas looked great against a team that wasn't that good all season. Short week with travel,I really don't think that's a big deal for Dallas. San Francisco playing the best football
of any team left in the tournament for sure. Rested,at home. They've been more consistent than Dallas overall. Someone else can break down the numbers,I'll go with a gut feeling,I don't see a blowout but I like...

Forty Niners- 27
Cowboys- 23

I would rank the AFC - Cinn, KC, Buff.

I’m not sure philly’s offense is more dynamic than Dallas.

Which area would you say Dallas is more dynamic than Philly? WR? No. OL? No. TE? No. QB? No. RB? Maybe...

In a one game scenario -

Qbs basically even
RBs - Dallas
WR’s basically even
TEs - Philly slightly
K - Philly big
coaching - Philly

I’m more worried about the Eagles than I am the Cowboys and I’m not overlooking Dallas. Something that I’ll add to your list of strengths that you didn’t mention is Hurts mobility. That scares me more than anything. Good QBs with mobility give this team fits (see Mahomes recently, Pre-Denver Russ, etc). Demoralizing to have them 3rd and long just to watch them scramble for the first and keep drives going.

Philly has started fast all season. SF can stop that by running. SF is playoff tested, few gave them a chance in GB last season.

Hurts is way better than Dak
Devonta is way better than Gallup

But bottom line, I dont understand the point of having this conversation. Why dont we just wait and see as the results on the field will answer all these questions.

It is funny what a week can do in the NFL. After Week 18's lackluster performance at Washington, so many people were ready to write Dallas off saying they were done and Dak was garbage. Now after 1 game vs a 9-8 Tampa team with a corpse of a man at QB who's team struggled all year, people are saying Dallas is as good as the Big 3 in the AFC and can matchup with one of the better all around teams this year in San Fran?

my dad can beat up your dad :ptts: and Tampa was an 8-9 team :lmao:

On paper, Dallas is among the top teams in the league. That hasnt changed.

QBs are not basically even. Jalen Hurts is playing at an MVP level. Dak Prescott has been a turnover machine since returning from injury.
RBs I give the edge to Dallas since I won't include Hurts running with the RBs. But Sanders is having the best season out of the 3 RBs (Sanders, Pollard, Elliot) so it's close.
WRs aren't even close. Dallas has CeeDee Lamb...that's it. The rest of their WRs are hot garbage. The Eagles have 2 1000 yard WRs and AJ Brown is better than Lamb. And DeVonta Smith is light years better than anything else Dallas will throw out there. This one isn't even close.
TEs aren't even close. Goedert missed 5 games and still has more receiving yards than Shultz.

I totally agree with this. Dallas is probably going to get boot stomped this week.

I am committing an unforgivable sin but I'm rooting for Dallas and Philly to win this week so I can sell my playoff tickets for a kings ransom. Dallas is always the most highly sought after regular season game in Philly and to meet them in the NFFCCG would make it the hottest NFL tickets in my lifetime. $$$$$$$$

If I am Cowboys fan, I would be REALLY worried about Maher. Missed 4 XPs in a row.....I don't think I have seen any kicker miss more than 2 in a row. And it's not like the weather was bad.

It will be interesting to see what DAL does the first time they are around SF 20 with a 4th and about 5, or if they go for two more liberally than usual.

Dal dl looked great tonite.
Against a JV defense that left players like Lamb & Schultz inexplicably wide open with a pass rush that barely pressured him.

I imagine Bosa & Co will be slightly more challenging for that DAL OL.

At least I hope so.

Can’t help but feel like that boat race over Tampa is a bit of an illusion. Tampa wasn’t competitive last night and their Swiss cheese OL had zero answer for the DAL pass rush. SF’s OL has been significantly better than that, and Purdy is much more mobile than Brady.

I’m skeptical he can, but we’ll see I guess.

I respect your take here, but it seems like a lot of folks are equating the Bucs to the Niners, which is a bit like equating a house cat to a tiger.

Tampa Bay had no OL & their defense was mediocre at best. Dak will face significantly more pressure at SF, and their pass rush should be less effectively against SF’s OL.

I think it’ll be a good game, and probably closer than I’d like, but I don’t think Dak will have 7 seconds to find open deep receivers like he did at TB. He’ll need to get it out on 3 Mississippi or he’s gonna be looking out his earhole.

Also McCarthy will have to out-coach Shanahan.

Unfortunately TB didn’t actually test the Cowboys, and IMO it makes them look an awful lot better than they are.

I stand by what I posted. Dallas’ biggest concern should be their coaching and K. I’m no Dallas fan either.

IMO their biggest concern will be their OL keeping a clean pocket for Dak.

That’s been an Achilles heel of the Cowboys all year. When they’ve faced teams with above average pass rush they’ve struggled to move the ball.

If SF has to respect the run he’ll have time. Dallas is best when they pound the rock, not sure why they don’t do it more.
