Wait, you have a Puerto Rican? My Puerto Rican's family hear no distinction between "reach" and "rich" even when I say it (Boston area).

Yeah, we've definitely got a problem.Supposably, adverb: 1) Able to be supposed. Differs from the adverbified past participle supposedly in that it describes something which might be supposed, as opposed to something which has been supposed. Now we've got a problem.bostonfred said:supposably
Clearly some of them logged on with all 20 of their aliases. I've lived all over this country and there's no way I'll believe that 40% can't tell the difference.I feel like this is the biggest fishing trip in board history. Surely, there are 90 some people here all in on this joke. D-awun? WTF?
it hasn't Donned on you yet?How are you screwtards voting yes here?
You're right that it's not a second syllable, but it is an elongated vowel sound (which is not to be confused with an elongated bowel sound, which if properly executed will generally win burritos unless some kind of fix is in). I'll put it to you this way - if we had a race to be the first to say Dawn 100 times between two people, one of whom said "Dawn" differently from "Don", and the other who pronounced them the same, the one who correctly pronounced it as "Don" would win every time, and by a lot if the Dawun people counted aloud and overenunciated the Ws in two, twelve, twenty, twenty one, and so on.Not close -- it's not adding a syllable, it's using a different vowel. Here's the vowel for "Don" (listening sample at right) ... and for those who pronounce them differently, here's the vowel for "Dawn" (listening sample at right)."Dawun" is my attempt at spelling what I think you people are saying. close?
I hope you're right. A substantial number of us can tell the difference, but correctly believe that the dawun sayers are wrowung.Clearly some of them logged on with all 20 of their aliases. yeah but this was like 40% get the 100 dowllar questiown wrong on milliownaire. Banner day for the "Death of the FFa" crod.40% of people wrong. Sad day in the FFA.

Sean, Shawn, Shaun all sound the same and nothing like Son, Sun, or Shun. What happens if we throw Shaun White into the mix? What does he rhyme with??There is no W.Does Shaun rhyme with Shawn?

Oh my God. You pronounce paw different from Pa? Law different from fa la la la la? Craw different from, well, the right way to pronounce craw? Pawn sounds like pond, without the d. Paw sounds like pond, without the n and the d. Paws and pause are pronounced identically. If you're saying that your linguistic malfeasance has spread into almost every word with a w in it, then no wonder this poll is flawed. How do you weirdos pronounce these words?PawLawCrawFlawif Daw was a word, it would sound alike so just add an N to the end of it and you get Dawn.I'm starting to think it's the o in Don that is causing the mixup here rather than the W in Dawn but I still have no idea how people can't tell them apart.

that's the worst accent on earth. not really the issue here though.I thought the only people who pronounced the 'w' in words like dawn and lawn were from Laun Guyland.
There have been many links to the sounds in question. But everyone's "on a roll".I can't believe this thread hasn't spawned (sponed?) youtube videos yet.
Inevitable.I can't believe this thread hasn't spawned (sponed?) youtube videos yet.
It's pretty universally applying the "Don" vowel to "Dawn" words:"I fought the LAH and the LAH won"for the people that can't tell the two words apart and pronounce them exactly the same, if someone who could tell them apart heard them, which would it sound like?
They would both sound like "don" to someone who differentiates.for the people that can't tell the two words apart and pronounce them exactly the same, if someone who could tell them apart heard them, which would it sound like?
Do you say paws and pause like the first syllable in positive? You screw up pause too? Are you freaking kidding me?we agree on Paws and PausePaws and pause are pronounced identically.![]()

weird. I'm still not sure how they pronounce every other word that uses a similar vowel sound to Dawn though.btw, Lawn sounds just like Long minus the g at the end. However, it doesn't sound like Lon as in Lon Chaney.Braun also uses the same vowel sound as Dawn. LeBron doesn't.They would both sound like "don" to someone who differentiates.for the people that can't tell the two words apart and pronounce them exactly the same, if someone who could tell them apart heard them, which would it sound like?

The "w" in "Law" is silent, Corky. It sounds just like "la" as in the musical scale.WHAT?!?!?!? Lawn is LAW with a ####### n attached. Can you say LAW? Now add an N, and it's LAWN.
