No. I am far too pessimistic to ever fly an American flag, but the guy 4 houses down from me has had a giant flagpole with an American flag on it since I moved into my house. Just last month he added a second flagpole to his front yard with a Marines flag on it. :loco:
Man, what a jerk
What need is there to fly the flag of the company you work for in your front yard? Should people working for Wal-Mart fly Wal-Mart flags?

Someone flying a military flag is nothing but a "LOOK AT ME!" statement.

I'm sure there are a few folks that fought for our country and perhaps lost colleagues/friends at war that fly the flag for a sense of pride and honor and not just "Hey Look at Me".

Sometimes you're funny.

This isn't one of those times.

Jesus, you are a simple SOB :lmao:

My American flag came down. I probably should have brought in a pro to mount the bracket into the masonry.

To rephrase, I'm not as nationalistic as most. But I am more nationalistic than this guy.

My grandfathers flag pole is pretty badass.

he put a flower bed around it, building a small landscape wall.

Because he fought in WWII and loved the USA

He would raise the flag every morning and take it down every night.

he's gone now but my dad and grandmother kept it up and put the flag up on holidays.

I have a 30 foot flag pole that I always have flags flying from (it will hold two at a time). Today it was the US flag. Flown at half staff until noon, then raised to the top.

I rotate flags based on holidays or just because. US flag, a variety of historical South Carolina flags, and a variety of Confederate flags. I'm looking at maybe getting some historical US flags too. A house in my neighborhood has been flying a 48 star US flag all month.

Confederate flags? Why do you love losing and racism?

Never understood the desire to fly confederate flags. Historical flags are cool, I could see putting a couple up in my home office, but to fly them? That just seems like a big #### you to Alaska and Hawaii.

You don't like Marines or you don't like flagpoles?
Nothing against Marines, but two massive flagpoles flying two massive flags towering over a neighborhood of single-story homes is a bit much. Guy's an ### too.
The guy being an ### may be the rub. Do you dislike all of the following?

Christmas decorations (especially giant manger scenes and Griswald lighting)

Halloween decorations

People wearing a cross or religious symbols

People wearing cloths with their college name

People wearing Sharks jerseys

People with Sharks or 49ers flags on theirs cars

Easter decorations

Garden gnomes

People with John McCain for president bumper stickers

Anyone with a bumper sticker

Someone with an "I'm with stupid" t-shirt with an arrow pointing in one direction

I could go on and on. To me if you dislike all of the above, then you're not a hypocrite. But displaying pride has a lot different applications, having pride in country or service is better than most IMO.

I'm not a religious person, but I respect those who have pride in their religion. Hell, I respect anyone with pride because it's something I think people fail to properly appreciate. Just my opinion, won't change the fact that guy is an ### I guess.
Wait....Easter, Halloween, and garden gnomes show pride in what exactly?
Celebrating our savior? Appreciating Jason what's his face and Dragons? Try to keep up.

I have never ignored anyone on this forum before but this post just made me ignore CSTU.

What's flag protocol when it gets dirty and weathered? I've had mine up for a few years now and its seen better days. Can I just fold it up, stick it in one of those flag disposal mailboxes in front of the VFW and replace it with a brand spanking new one or am I supposed to tough it out and keep it until it falls apart.

You're supposed to burn a tattered flag.

this is a joke right? proper flag disposal?
No. Dealing with the flag is heavily codified from how you run it up to how you dispose of it. If you aren't going to bother with following code you're just a poser and shouldn't get to fly a flag.

I thought you were kidding at first, but from the link posted in the post below yours, that seems to be correct.

Flags are serious business...not to be trifled with
Actually they are silly things. It's just a symbol and a fairly tainted one at that. But the simplicity of such symbols has an obvious apoeal. All I know is I didn't serve to glorify the flag and I don't feel any particular need to do so now. But for those that do don't go half, follow the rules.
