During the early stages of the pandemic, I bought a set of clippers from Amazon.

After the initial lockdown was lifted, I went out and got a haircut from the salon. But it was only marginally better than what I could do myself. Haven't paid for a haircut since.

I haven't in about 25 years. #2 guard.

Aside from the money, the time/hassle/having to make small talk of going to the barber shop just sounds absolutely horrible to me (and I work directly beside two barber shops).

If I could miraculously find 30 extra minutes a month, the last thing in the world I'd do with it is have forced small talk in a chair.

Would love to do it myself and avoid the expense, as the amount of hair is getting pretty scant. My primary concern is that would probably make it look turrible - probably should check out some YouTube videos.

Cut my own, no guard. I used to use a razor but you can’t really even see a difference between the razor and no guard due to my light hair unless you start rubbing my head.
I’ve paid for one haircut in my lifetime (parents paid before I went to college). There is an advantage to going bald young.

All you have to do is say "I treat this kind of like a relaxing massage, so no offense, but would rather just sit and enjoy than conversate". They get it and actually probably prefer it since all they do all day is talk so good to have a break from that. They'll likely look forward to your appointment.

My barber retired a few months before Covid hit. He cut the best flat top I've ever had. I tried another barber after the retirement, but he sucked. I bought some clippers right when Covid first broke out and just give myself a crew cut. No way in hell I can cut a flat top on myself.

Yes, about every 6-8 weeks. For a frame of reference, think Justin Herbert style…..without the hippie hair band.

I wanna party with you!

P.S. I pay a barber

Once a month. #2 Guard

Ex-wife shaves my neck once every couple months when I am over to do some odd jobs around her house.

Yeah, about once every two months. Once I have to use a comb, it's time. Plus, the gray isn't as noticeable after a cut.
$30+tip

The DIY crowd is proud!

I voted yes. I go to my wife's stylist every four weeks. I'm in and out in 15 minutes, usually on a Saturday morning at the time of my choosing. $35 plus tip. The key is the convenience of the appointment. Barber shop waits around here can be 30-45 minutes during popular times. No thanks, I prefer no waiting and going at a time of my choice.

Yes I pay. $60 once a month. Every 2 wks I've been touching up my fade on my own.
About the same, except no touch up.

I have multiple hair colics and my job calls for me to look pretty presentable, so it's worth it.

ETA: the stylist is also right next to my office, so I don't mind paying a premium for the time save of a 30 second walk versus having to drive somewhere else.

Or choose a stylist that isn't bad to look at and conversate with. I view it as 30 minutes of my time once per month where I get to feel like I'm in my mid-20s and can just have a friendly conversation about the world with somebody who is easy on the eyes. It's a nice break from dealing with the serious business I deal with most of the day.
