Do you wear duck boots? (1 Viewer)

I admit that I rock a pair of duck boots, but I didn't know they were this popular.

L.L. Bean's Duck Boots Are On Crazy Backorder; You could be on a wait list of 100,000

If you were looking to nab a new pair of L.L. Bean Duck Boots for yourself or someone else this holiday, well, you've waited too long. You'll have to battle this winter's sloshy, slippery days some other way.

The boots are on backorder with a waitlist of nearly 100,000, according to Yahoo, and even for orders placed now, the boots won't show up until the spring.

And who else would be to blame for this madness but millennials?

That's right, the generation that's the butt of every joke is also responsible for making it nearly impossible to score a pair of L.L. Bean's infamous Duck Boots. Sure, you could shake your fist at L.L. Bean for being unprepared and beg them to make more. But it's just not that simple: The company expects to sell 450,000 boots this year, and they are still hand-crafted and made in the U.S.

"Making more boots is also a slow process, given the specialization needed to produce the hand-crafted boots," the company's spokeswoman tells Yahoo. "Perfecting the stitching process takes 26 weeks, or half a year, of training. We've bumped up production. We have three shifts going. We're hiring new people. We're doing all we can to lessen the wait time."

Better luck next year?

Aussie and duck boots were big at preparatory schools and Northeast preppy U's all through the mid-'90s.

No doubt, signed, sealed, delivered. Way before Millenials, unless they're adopting the retro look.

This is also why Bill Simmons's points about going to a Mid-Atlantic or Southern school back in the early aughts were so accurate and fresh-sounding for a sportswriter who finally got it. (And now backed down, and doesn't.)

These aren't heels, after all.

had these as a kid. I think my dad still wears some.
They're very popular around here... go to Harvard Square and probably 10% of the people you see are wearing them. That's the official LL Bean version I'm talking about, not a knock-off. I even have a pair. Just don't wear them much.

Surprised the FFA isn't all over these with the collective taste it has.
Well, you know... in the Sheik's thread I had floated the idea of a thread for consensus FBG purveyors for whatever....

FBG ***official*** toilet... American Standard with the Champion 4 Flush system.

FBG ***official*** purveyor of ED meds... Secure Tabs. Need I say more?

So now maybe we can add this one...

FBG ***official*** winter boot.... the LL Bean Duck Boot.

Then, in the distance, I heard the ducks. I began running as fast as I could. Fortunately, I was wearing my L.L. Bean Italian leather Duck Boots. The waterproof protection of rubber-bottom boots with the supple comfort of full-grain leather. Sophisticated yet different; nothing to make a huge fuss about. Rich dark brown calfskin leather. Matching leather vent. Men's whole and half sizes 7 through 13. Price: $135.00.

:tebow: That was pretty good.

Guys in here are generally known for having awful taste in shoes.
I'm betting dollars to donuts that it's the girls that are ordering them. At least those were the wearers of said boots back when.

Guys wore bigger, clunkier stuff.

my NYC fabulous, preppy, interior designer, supposed-taste-maker boss wears them.

I hate them. But if top-siders made a comeback, it makes sense that these would too.

:blackdot:

Had a pair of L.L. Bean non-duck, Gore-Tex snow boots literally disintegrate at a party a few weeks ago (It was snowing, and I didn't want to wear my nice shows out to get ruined). Had them for maybe 7-8 years, wore them a few times a winter. The heels of these SOB's literally fell apart in progressive chunks, felt like I was at the end of my loop in Looper.

Never, ever again with L.L. Bean, they're perma-banned from my business.

So, I'm in the market for new ones, leaning Soulfly reco, I'll take what the Canadians are wearing here.

You realize you can bring those back to any LL Bean Store and you can get an exchange for a new pair, even after 7-8 years, right?

I threw them out in anger immediately after getting home, it was embarrassing.

Hipster/faux hipsters love those ducking things. They're ugly, don't have good grip. And I don't understand the super low cut ones. What's the point of having water proof shoes when they are cut below the ankle

I have a pair of the Bean Storm Chasers - AWESOME winter boot. I don't give a crap about the style though as I'm usually wearing them to clear the driveway of snow, or mucking around outside. Great soft rubber sole with great grip, very comfortable and warm.

I have a pair of imitation duck boots that I've had for at least a decade that I wear whenever I'm sloshing around in the woods or a muddy field...like once every couple of years.

Sorels are worth every penny IMO
Yup

Not cheap, but if u live in cold, wet, snowy conditions, they pay themselves off first winter
I'm in the city, so not that much in terms of super cold or snowy- but I bought a pair of Sorels 10 years ago. Bust them out every time things get bad (wore them a ton last winter)... fantastically made, look good, and don't seem to trend out of style (not yet, anyways).

said it further up... that "clunky" "chunky" boot will always be in style.

It just screams "winter"..
