***Dolphins at Defending World Champion Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5, 44) - Yep We Are Cuttin’ Glass Over Here Today! *** (1 Viewer)

Coldest games in NFL history:
  1. Cowboys vs. Packers 1967, -13 degrees (wind chill -48)
NFL Championship (SB II), the famed Ice Bowl. Temperature reached -18 in the 4th Q when Bart Starr scored on a QB sneak in the waning seconds.

  2. Chargers vs. Bengals 1982, -9 degrees (wind chill -59)
AFC Championship, Fouts had 4 turnovers, Bengals won 27-7.

  3. Seahawks vs. Vikings 2016, -6 degrees (wind chill -25)
NFC Wild Card, last Vikings outdoor game. Blair Walsh hooked a 27 yard FGA with 22 seconds left.

  4. Giants vs. Packers 2008, -4 degrees (wind chill -24)
NFC Championship, Giants 3rd straight road playoff win, Lawrence Tynes made a 47 yarder in OT after missing two in regulation.

  5. Raiders vs. Browns 1981, -4 degrees (wind chill -36)
AFC Divisional Round, Red Right 88, Oakland wins 14-12.

  6. Packers vs. Vikings 1972, -2 degrees (wind chill -19)
Week 13 (SEE #7), Packers only attempted 14 passes while winning 23-7.

  7. Bears vs. Vikings 1972, -2 degrees (wind chill -15)
Week 12 (SEE #6), Tarkenton somehow threw for 261 in a 23-10 win.

  8. Raiders vs. Bills 1994, 0 degrees (wind chill -32)
AFC Divisional Round (same year as #9), Bills won 29-23 en route to their 4th straight Super Bowl loss.

  9. Raiders vs. Packers 1993, 0 degrees (wind chill -20)
Week 17, Los Angeles gave up 8 sacks to Reggie White & Co, Pack won 28-0.
I know Cris Collinsworth has talked many times about that Bengals/Chargers game basically being the worst football experience of his career. Also said the players who are affected the most by that weather are the Punters. The ball feels like kicking a boulder. Its not quite as bad for Kickers, as the ball isn't dropping onto their feet, but still rough. So I wouldn't be shocked by a lot more 4th down aggressiveness than normal.

Not so fun story about the Ice Bowl game. One of the officials had to go to get stitches at halftime, because part of his lip got ripped off, because it stuck to the metal whistle. For the rest of the game, he just yelled and gestured instead of blowing his whistle.

The current temperature in Miami is 76 degrees with a humidity of 96%. My glasses fogged up when I went outside. How long does it take for a human to adapt to artic weather when coming from the tropics? Do gloves, sleeves, sideline heaters, or hot chocolate help?
It takes at least a few days. When the temps here go from the 60's to the 30's in 24 hrs it feels like 0 degrees. Big thing for the receivers will be to somehow keep their fingers from being numb.
Last thing KC needs is their WRs having worse hands. MVS should probably fake an injury now.

I've often wondered if the guy with the "kicking balls" is allowed to hold them in front of those big heaters prior to sending them out onto the field....I remember when I was younger and wanted to shoot hoops outside when it was cold....I would have two basketballs and I would leave on inside right by or on top of our heater...take one out, shoot with it for awhile and then when it quit bouncing, I would go swap it with the warm one from inside and rinse and repeat.....to me it would make sense for the punters and kickers to ask for this to happen as 4th down approaches...

I've also wondered with todays technology why we don't have the under armor type undergarments that have some tiny microfibers or something that can be run through them to stay warm....think whatever runs through an electric blanket without the cord, but smaller....basically an entire body suit that you could wear under your uniform.....small battery powered or something that could be replaced when needed....

The NFL needs to move this game to the daylight hours. Will still be cold but at least a little better.

The players are at risk, but more so the fans who will have to be outside for hours.

I still remember when years ago a reporter asked Clay Matthews if GB had the advantage in a playoff game because they are used to playing in sub-zero weather. Matthews replied "Brother..you never get used to playing in this weather"
Worst thing for the fans will be their feet. Need to keep them off the concrete.
I've attended college games in conditions like this, and the thing people don't understand is how cold it gets when you're just sitting/standing there and can't really move around. There's no substitute for insulated boots plus layers (thin socks under wool socks, for example) when it gets really cold.
Hot hands hand warmers are the best thing ever. I put them under my toes in my boots when it gets really cold for hunting and ice fishing and in my pockets. Life savers

I just went out and chopped some firewood, picked up sticks, fed the birds, and played with the dog. It’s not bad out there.

Those boys can ball. I’d expect a shootout.

>>When the @MiamiDolphins left MIA this afternoon it was 86° with a heat index of 90°...when they arrived in #KansasCity it was 10° with a wind chill of -6°. Almost a 100° swing! h/t @JohnHoltNews<<

It's Art Deco Weekend in Miami Beach. Ocean Drive is packed right now with most people in short sleeve shirts, such as me. Some eye candy. Miami is great from Dec to April.

I saw a tweet that it might be top 5 coldest games in NFL history. 🥶🥶🥶
I heard it will be the 3rd coldest game ever
Cinci-SD was 59 below in '82
The Ice Bowl perhaps was the 2nd coldest game or a game involving the Dallas Cowboys IIRC

And then you will have Mia-KC Sat Night from what I hear on the radio

BTW: If for some unexplained reason this were played in Miami and it were still the 3rd coldest game on record...
9 fans in the stands at Hard Rock, seriously
This fan base would never be able to withstand that type of cold for 5 hours

Don't remember that game. Fouts and the boys must have been freezing their nuts off.

52 seconds in they reveal the weather report, **** Enberg on the call
-9 temperature and -59 with the wind chill, incredible

Miami’s defensive injuries and the weather both give KC a huge edge. But, the Chiefs have just not looked very Chief-like for a while and I just don’t know which direction this one will go.

KC 23, Miami 10.

Temps being so bitterly cold, 44 seems like a lot of points
Miami hasn't hit 30 with any consistency for a while, even 20 might be a lot for them

It’s time for the 49er run game coordinator version of McDaniel to appear for this game.

I want them to absolutely pound the rock with Mostert, Achane, Wilson & Brooks. RUN it 40 times if that’s what it takes.

Do not want Tua throwing more than 15x this game. Take the game out of his hands and have him just manage the game with short passes.

Have Ramsay cover Kelce.

Last thing - did I say RUN THE DAMN BALL YET !?!?

Also . . . so done with Danny Crossman - special teams coach for the Dolphins. Close to the bottom of the league now for years with this guy. Just recently . . .

Big kickoff return to start the 2nd half vs the Ravens.
And then up 14-7 in the 4th quarter vs the Bills and they get a punt return for a TD which completely changed the game.

Yeah. Agree.

I actually like this plan for the Chiefs too. We can't throw catch the ball, but maybe with some play action we can get some big plays. I expect this game to be a grinder.

Micah Parsons picks...The Miami Dolphins on his podcast this week

-That's big
Micah is better at playing football than making predictions. Sure, Miami beat Dallas a few weeks ago in balmy weather at Hard Rock. Micah and Dallas know the advantage of home field. Plus, it's almost -100 degree wind chill change from Miami to KC. And the injuries. And the HOF coach & QB.

I'm a Miami fan in Nebraska and even I couldn't withstand it. I was offered free tickets to go with my brother-in-law, who lives in KC, but will be watching from the warmth of my home. In Nebraska it's cold AF too. I just went outside to scoop snow and it sucked.

So, let’s get this straight, they move te Bills vs Steelers to Monday because of snow to protect the fans, but don’t care about the fans in the cold and wind chill in the Chiefs / Dolphins game?

Was just going to say, this game should be pushed back.. These are dangerous conditions.. What if people cars die on the way home?

The league has responded.

>>A league spokesperson told the Miami Herald that the game is still scheduled to be played Saturday night because “there are no such travel-related issues that would put public safety at risk or divert resources from local authorities.”

The spokesperson said that NFL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills and other league medical consultants have been in touch with the medical staffs for both clubs, as well as medical personnel at the NFL Players Association.

Team medical staffs are briefing their players, coaches, and other team personnel regarding safe practices for the cold temperatures. The medical personnel will also be in contact with the game officials.

Each team will have equipment and gear to provide additional protection from the cold temperatures, including heated benches, other heating equipment, heavy jackets and parkas, gloves, hand warmers, and fluids to avoid dehydration.

The playing field will be properly covered, heated, and prepared for the game, the spokesperson said. The Chiefs are implementing enhanced measures to assist their fans and game day staff, according to the spokesperson, including warming stations, hand warmers, hot beverages, and refraining from having halftime entertainment so that fans can leave the bowl to seek warmth during halftime.<<

NY state government banned driving, so they really can't have a game. Teams can't even get to the stadium. NFL absolutely could have the game at a different venue (but at the same time) and there are contingency plans for that. However, they chose to change the date instead.

Yeah, how come the Bills get pushed back but Miami is forced out there tonight?
NFL is not being very fair here
What is the players refused to take the field and said they also need a MNF kick off time
Triple Header action like we've never seen before

Teams have been playing in snow since its beginning, so it is BS to move that game and to hell with the Dolphins/Chiefs game. Fans have made it to snow game for decades.

The extreme cold is not over until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Move it to Indy or Minneapolis. Bart Starr is rolling over in his grave. I say play in the snow and the cold.

It's not the NFL's call. The NY governor effectively said there will be no game in Buffalo tomorrow.

It’s actually pretty nice out right now. Just got done chopping some wood and didn’t die.

On that note...I've been walking/working thru my walk-in coolers here and trying to see how long I can comfortably stand in there in a t-shirt.
I'm splitting at 7 so I can get home in time to pop a cold one at kick off

According to The Washington Post there was a conference call between the Governor,Goodell and Bills management and a mutual decision was made to postpone the game.
See the post above about emergency vehicles. That played a part in the decision

Wonder how bad the roads were getting to Foxsboro on this day

Imagine the media discussion if a family of BUF fans died in blizzard conditions on the highway trying to get to the game.

This is an easy call.

I'm sure it was "mutual" in some sense. But the bottom line is that if Goodell wanted to play the game and Governor didn't want it to happen, Governor wins that argument. So there is no point in fighting it, especially when it's the safer thing to do.

NFL's only decision at that point is to decide when and where to reschedule to.

Man.....who do we have left on defense.

Chiefs 23
Dolphins 13

It's gonna be a tough tough night.....can we win? Of course. Anything can happen and we have weapons on offense.

But that 2-9 Tua vs winning team's on the road stat is hitting me right in the face. And it will be freezing iIn Arrowhead tonight.....oooof.

Fingers crossed we compete.

Freezing for KC too. It’s not like they are a cold weather team.

Well......the Dolphins player's playing hurt will ache even more and out history in sub 40 degrees speaks for itself.

We have a small shot.....that's about it.

Can't you tell....I am trying the reverse psychology here?
