your forgeting Manningham and Tyree. I thought Hixon was going to be cut but after watching last night he sure performed great. I believe the giants cut Moss and place tyree on the PUP keeping 5 recievers on the active rosterGiants WR Depth: My GuessPlaxToomerSmithHixonMoss/London

Plax has been injured to over a year. Produces come game time but hurt none the less.Toomer is older than dirt.Smith has been hurt much of camp. The best thing you can say about Moss is that he's inconsistent. If he wasn't a high round pick, he might not still be on the roster.Manningham has missed almost all of camp and may be PUPed.Tyree has been hurt and may be PUPed.I'm not saying Hixon is going to be a starter, but the Giants receiving corps is looking MASH like for this early in the year and although I expect him to make his main contributions on special teams, I could see him as high as 4th on the depth chart to start the season.Baron Samedi said:your forgeting Manningham and Tyree. Break-out players need talent + opportunity. Last night's performance showed that Hixon may have some talent. Being 4th-5th WR on a run-first team draws low marks for opportunity. Unless you have very large rosters or are looking 2-3 years down the road, I'd suggest passing.Faust said:From tonights game and NFL.com4 Rec, 63 yards - 2 TDsAlso returned a kickoff for 82 yards and another scoreThis guy just jumped up significantly on my radarPreseason mirage with all the WR injuries in NY or legit break out player this year?SP thoughts?
Frisman Jacksonbe the guy who takes the hot WR from preseason....who was the guy from the Browns a few years back?...had a great game or two, yea, that guy...![]()
Again, not saying Hixon will light it up in the regular season, but this guy clearly has talent that was on some people's radar long before this game.Injuries may give him some opportunity.Especially for those that get points for return yardage, I could think of worse guys to have on the end of my benchbe the guy who takes the hot WR from preseason....who was the guy from the Browns a few years back?...had a great game or two, yea, that guy...![]()
not reallyHixon is their return man and Tyree is one of the best special teams aces in the NFL. Of course there's only so many roster spots and they'll have to be short elsewhere but, tons of teams keep a KR guy or a ST ace. Also, I don't think they would be as good on ST without Hixon or Tyree. So Toomer, Plax, Smith and Hixon+Tyree seem like locks to me.Sinorice they've been sitting on and waiting a long time. I always have trouble gauging what's too long to wait and what's reasonable. At some point, ya gotta figure they'd like all their patience to bear some fruit. I think Sinorice makes the team but, if he gets injured they work out an injury settlement. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see them re-sign Anthony Mix once Washington cuts him. They are going to have to cut a couple talented guys unless they want to carry 6+ WRs.Baron Samedi said:your forgeting Manningham and Tyree. No doubt but, I'm starting to expect that when Plax is around. I have never done the research but I'd swear WRs miss more practice time with rinky dink injuries then play, since he's come to NY. It's preseason so there's no rush to play.Crazy theory Avery? what do you think?I'm not saying Hixon is going to be a starter, but the Giants receiving corps is looking MASH like for this early in the year
He has a lot of guys to leapfrog, and they are all young, except Amani.Again, not saying Hixon will light it up in the regular season, but this guy clearly has talent that was on some people's radar long before this game.Injuries may give him some opportunity.Especially for those that get points for return yardage, I could think of worse guys to have on the end of my benchbe the guy who takes the hot WR from preseason....who was the guy from the Browns a few years back?...had a great game or two, yea, that guy...![]()
Based on the current information Plax, Toomer, Smith should all be good to go by Sept 4.Hixon may be #4 right now. If one of Plax or Toomer were to go down for a significant stretch he is probably the primary back up as they might keep Smith in the slot.I don't see Moss getting cut (and he wouldn't fetch much in a trade at this point). They're not ready to give up on him and like what he brings to the table in terms of stretching the field (he didn't get credit for it in the box score but he caused a 50+ yard pass interference penalty last night) and his ability to gain separation running curls etc.Manningham can't be put on PUP. They really like London. Wouldn't be surprised if they try to stash him.Tyree is on PUP. Unlikely he starts the season on the 53.Bottom line: Hixon has shown he can have a role and contribute beyond specials. This is a deep group. They won't all make it to the 53. Something's gotta give, whether it's a significant injury and trip to IR for somebody (legitimate or not) or a trade between now and the start of the season...Plax has been injured to over a year. Amazing how those things work over the internet.Hixon was the other WR prospect (along with Brandon Marshall) with a big play profile and experience on the defense in the 2006 draft who went in the fourth round to Denver. His stint there was injury riddled, and he failed to make the impact they expected as a return man. MAYBE he could find a spot in NY as a field stretcher once Toomer moves on, but it'll take other injuries for him to see the field as a WR this year. At different times during his stay in Denver, Shanny raved about him, so I wouldn't completely forget his name.Paging Bloom, Sigmund Bloom to the white courtesy phone please.
With Hixon, I think the problems he experienced in Denver were related to his hit with Kevin Everett. Honestly, I think the severe injury suffered by Kevin from that collision really got into his head (although it was not his fault at all). It really held him back throughout the rest of his time in Denver.I will guess his going to the Giants and the change of venue may have helped him get over it. Also, he must have realized he better start performing if he wanted to remain in the league. His performance was thus greatly improved with the Giants.Amazing how those things work over the internet.Hixon was the other WR prospect (along with Brandon Marshall) with a big play profile and experience on the defense in the 2006 draft who went in the fourth round to Denver. Spot start? In a word: yes.Sep. 24 - 12:37 pm etDomenik Hixon, not Steve Smith, is expected to start at split end while Plaxico Burress serves his one-game suspension. The Giants prefer Smith in the slot and at flanker behind Amani Toomer. It's quite conceivable that Smith will see more targets against Seattle, but Hixon is a sleeper to rack up some yards. He'll focus on vertical route running.Source: Newark Star-Ledger -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Any Giant homers think Hixon would be a worth a spot start?
any dynasty potential? He is a great ONE WEEK start in week 5, after that he becomes virtually useless again.
For those of us with bye/injury issues, this may be a good play. I'm thinking of picking him up for the 1-week start in week 5.Without going too much into subscriber specifics, I see that Dodd's initial rankings for the week have him in the solid WR2 range, which would be wonderful for a waiver wire pickup. He is a great ONE WEEK start in week 5, after that he becomes virtually useless again.

After Week 5, which Giants WR would be a better pickup, Hixon or Steve Smith? He is a great ONE WEEK start in week 5, after that he becomes virtually useless again.
Steve Smith, especially in PPRAfter Week 5, which Giants WR would be a better pickup, Hixon or Steve SmithHe is a great ONE WEEK start in week 5, after that he becomes virtually useless again.
I'm actually surprised that Hixon is getting a lot of love and Toomer is getting none. I think Hixon is more capable of breaking free for a couple deep ones, but I think Toomer is a more solid, safer bet.I'm going with Toomer for week 5.
ding dingI think Hixon will take over Plax's spot...probably not his production, but he'll take over Plax WR position and Toomer and Smith will stay the same. So, I expect Hixon to be more productive than the other two WR's mentioned.
Jesus, get rid of that Porter hack. Not only is that team one of the worst at passing, Porter sucks.Hmm... I was planning on starting Steve Smith this week over Hixon. Smith had 6 catches Week 3 to Plaxico's 3. Why would Dixon be better than Plaxico? Smith will still fill the slot role Week 5 as usual, but I was under the assumption that both Smith and Hixon would share duties in 2 WR sets.I figure smith to be on the field a little bit more than normal, but also get more looks than normal.Tough to know for sure I guess.Should I drop Smith fo Hixon? Should I drop Jerry Porter for Hixon? I have to start either Smith, Hixon, or Porter this week....
