Report: Dorial Green-Beckham likely headed to Eastern IllinoisBy Mike Huguenin

College Football 24/7 writer

Former Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham appears to be on the verge of transferring to FCS program Eastern Illinois.

Green-Beckham, who was dismissed from the Tigers' football team April 11, "will likely transfer" to Eastern Illinois, 247sports.com reported Tuesday.

If he does transfer to EIU, he would be eligible to play for the Panthers immediately. He also will be eligible for the 2015 NFL Draft as a third-year college player.

Green-Beckham, who was the nation's No. 1 high school recruit in the class of 2012, was dismissed by Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel a day after prosecutors decided not to charge him in a burglary investigation that followed his alleged unlawful entry into an apartment while searching for his girlfriend.

Green-Beckham (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) has had past issues, too. He was suspended for Missouri's game vs. Vanderbilt as a freshman in 2012 after being arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, and he was arrested on Jan. 10 in Springfield, Mo. -- where he went to high school -- on a drug charge after police discovered a pound of marijuana in a friend's vehicle during a routine traffic stop.

While off-field issues led to his dismissal from Missouri's team, Green-Beckham has been productive -- he led Mizzou with 59 receptions and had 883 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2013.

Former Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be a second-round pick in this year's draft, and Green-Beckham's presence on the team would mean NFL scouts would follow the Panthers closely again in 2014. But Green-Beckham's character issues mean there's a red flag -- and that flag is waving briskly.

Former Panthers coach Dino Babers left for Bowling Green after the 2013 season, and he was replaced by Kim Dameron, who spent last season as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech.

Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Tigers

Eastern Illinois sources tell CBS Sports' Jeremy Fowler they have had no contact with former Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham and "have been led to believe" he will sit out the 2014 season and enter the 2015 draft.

Many had pegged EIU as DGB's next home, but that does not appear to be the case anymmore. This is a similar path to the one Tyrann Mathieu took just a few years ago. He was ultimately selected in the third-round. DGB could play immediately if he transferred to an FCS program, but staying out of trouble and working out for an entire season, even away from football, might not be the worst idea.

Former Missouri junior WR Dorial Green-Beckham has officially joined the Oklahoma football program.

DGB is not eligible to play until 2015, and we wonder if he ever takes an official snap for the Sooners. Green-Beckham might be taking this opportunity to be with a team during his "off" year, which is something NFL teams will likely prefer over sitting out the season at home. This would make the receiver a redshirt sophomore this season. Green-Beckham will enroll in classes and participate in team activities, and he could still enter the 2015 NFL Draft. DGB's final act that led to his dismissal from Missouri included unlawfully forcing his way into an apartment seeking his girlfriend and then pushed a different woman down "at least four stairs," causing a minor hand injury.

Definitely just using OK for the practice. He'll be in next year's draft.

Where do you think he will go in the draft? assuming he sits out this year, stays out of trouble, and has a good combine and good workouts with teams

Frankly, no idea. Da'Rick Rogers went undrafted and Gordon was a 2nd round supplemental pick. If he stays out of trouble he'll get drafted but I think the 3rd round would be the best case scenario.

Green-Beckham’s admission to Oklahoma came with specific stipulations including continued rehabilitation and drug testing.

Rotoworld:

Oklahoma will pursue a waiver from the NCAA for junior WR Dorial Green-Beckham to gain immediate eligibility, according to beat writer Jason Kersey.
We doubt the NCAA grants such a waiver, as many who were given immediate eligibility in the past transferred due to family emergencies or medical issues. As far as we know, DGB does not have either. The receiver was dismissed from Missouri after a number of off-field issues. He could be on the scout team with Baker Mayfield for the entire season.

Rotoworld:

Oklahoma is "very confident" junior (or redshirt sophomore) WR Dorial Green-Beckham will be awarded immediate eligibility, according to The Oklahoman.
"Green-Beckham’s appeal will center around the fact that he was never charged in the incident that ultimately got him kicked off Missouri’s football team," according to beat writer Jason Kersey. This was the same incident where DGB reportedly broke into a home and pushed a woman down stairs. The Oklahoman adds Oklahoma will pursue a "run-off" waiver, which refers to players that were removed from programs for reasons "beyond their control." Oklahoma has not filed their waiver appeal at this time, as they are waiting for more paperwork from Missouri.

Just a follow-up to his waiver appeal a couple weeks ago via Roto:

Oklahoma redshirt sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham's appeal for immediate eligibility has been denied.

The school released the news via twitter, adding it accepts the decision. Green-Beckham transferred from Missouri this offseason, following a recent off-field issue. The Sooner prospect applied for a waiver appeal from the NCAA almost two weeks ago, but with the recent denial, it's possible he could enter the 2015 draft. In fact, we expect him to leave Oklahoma without playing a down for the team. He will be allowed to practice with the Sooners all season.

No highlight reel this season...aww, shoot. Still gonna be a top 10 pick LOL.

I'm not even a big believer but just bought DGB in a devy league. Not expecting a ton but I see the upside.

I've always thought he was overrated due to his size/straight line speed ratio and the recruiting hype. A lot of his highlights are just him jumping up over 5'9" DB's or catching bombs wide open deep. Not too much showing off his movement skills.

Just not sure if his actual on-field abilities would translate into an elite WR prospect even WITHOUT the off-field stuff.

Anyone who has watched way more of him than me want to comment on the actual football playing abilities of DGB?

Ive seen enough of him from his highschool games, the kid is a freak I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 10.

I think enough flat out dominant high school phenoms have utterly failed and disappointed that this isn't really enough.

He's not going top 10. Dez Bryant had less serious character concerns and more talent and went late 1st.

I hope it was a good price. I see more Jon Baldwin/Brandon Coleman in Green-Beckham than Calvin.

It takes more than being a freak to be a stud WR. Jon Baldwin was a freak: 42" vertical and 10-9 broad jump at 228lbs.

That's pretty much my fear. That he's just a tall straight line guy without much actual athleticism to be the type of technician he needs to be or the type of physical beast he needs to be (either/or).

On the plus side, I do think he has better, more natural hands than those guys.

It was a fair price though, I think: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=712887&p=17184648

Early reports are him, and Texas Tech transfer QB, Baker Mayfield are tearing it up on scout teams.

He's much better off playing vs a good starting OU D every week than he would be sitting at home, or at a smaller school where there is less legitimate competition. He's still in a world class S&C program, nutrition program, etc.

It was recently mentioned that he intends to stay next year. I'm sure he does at this point, but once that 2 comes in, in dec/jan, he's not going to want to go through another full year in school.

I think he'll end up a top 75 pick in 2015 and if he gets his head on straight, will end up being a good nfl receiver.

Rotoworld:

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler wonders how the Ray Rice situation will impact Oklahoma redshirt sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham if he decides to enter the 2015 draft.

The star receiver was dismissed from Missouri after pushing a woman down stairs (amongst other transgressions). He was never charged. In announcing a six-game ban for first-time domestic abuse offenders, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to each team which stated first-time offenders could be suspended longer if circumstances warranted it, including "a prior incident before joining the NFL." Wrote Brugler: "So if Green-Beckham is involved in a domestic abuse incident while on a NFL roster, he would be subject to a harsher penalty than just the expected six game suspension. It's very possible Green-Beckham stays out of trouble once in the NFL, but nonetheless, it's a factor for teams to consider when deciding whether or not to draft the super-talented pass catcher."

Oklahoma WR coach Jay Norvell says redshirt sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham is "like a different guy" during his off year.

"He's been working really hard and doing a lot of great things off the field too. ... He's growing and maturing," Norvell said. DGB dealt with a domestic abuse incident at Missouri, which was one reason he is no longer with the program. He is able to practice with the Sooners this season, and we still think there is a chance DGB never plays a down for Oklahoma and instead jumps to the NFL.

I'm hoping he doesn't, I don't think College Football is going to help him stay out of trouble. Not sure professional football will either, but at least he'll be getting paid and more will be at risk.

The way rookie salaries stack up these days, I think there's a good chance he plays at OU. He's got too 15 potential, but I'm guessing he's a full round+ below that if he comes out next year.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl wrote that Oklahoma redshirt sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham "may be the most talented [WR]" in their rankings, but that he must overcome his off-field issues.
Green-Beckham has been arrested twice for marijuana possession, but the much more concerning question on his resume is that of an alleged domestic abuse incident that led to a police investigation and Missouri's dismissal of the receiver in the spring. The investigation closed without an arrest. Given the NFL's recent domestic violence rule changes, teams will look long and hard at the incident in their evaluations. As a player, Green-Beckham is "a long strider with the top-end speed, frame and body control to become a dangerous vertical threat in the NFL," according to the ESPN analysts.

I've been one of the biggest skeptics of his on-field talent (meaning not even taking into account his off field stuff), but even I bought low a couple months ago and I'm holding, hoping.

Sounds like he's concerned DGB will go pro:

Wednesday night after practice, Bob Stoops was asked if he was concerned Green-Beckham might turn pro.

“No, I’m not concerned. Why would I be concerned?” Stoops replied. “If he does, he does. I’m always concerned that all of my players, including him, make an intelligent decision. All you have to do is go back the last two or three years and look at how accurate the mock draft has been this time of year. They’re about 20 percent. And that’s been pointed out to my whole team, and he’s part of it. I don’t think they’re even 20 percent.

“In fact, look at the number of guys that weren’t even drafted that they had mocked in the first round. Just pull it up. Do your research. They’re not very good. That’s been pointed out in many articles a year ago.

“Those guys have got no idea. I mean, that’s just pure entertainment.”

As an OU fan, that's a typical Bob Stoops answer and I know he really does feel that way. We've had several guys leave early thinking they were 1st rounders, only to have those guys fall and fall. Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson was a big name Sooner and came out early and somehow wasn't even drafted.

but DGB is leaving. Too bad because I'd love to see him catching bombs from Baker Mayfield.

Sources Say Dorial Green-Beckham Likely to Declare

Dorial Green-Beckham, one of the most physically talented wide receivers who could be in the 2015 NFL Draft class, has been ineligible to play for Oklahoma this season after leaving Mizzou, but that still hasn't stopped NFL teams from preparing for him to be in the draft. Sources told us that Green-Beckham is likely to declare for the draft, meaning he would never end up playing football at Oklahoma. ...

...As for his draft hopes, Green-Beckham is probably more likely to be a second-day pick. Arizona Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was suspended for his final season of college football for numerous off-the-field issues, and he was selected in the third round. Mathieu was also very undersized, and there aren't questions about Green-Beckham's skill set.

Dorial Green-Beckham - WR - Sooners

ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Oklahoma redshirt sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham would have challenged Amari Cooper as the top WR in the draft "if not for his significant off-field red flags."

"Even though he was kicked off the team at Missouri, his talent level may be too tantalizing to pass up," Kiper wrote. Many analysts rate DGB as the draft's most physically talented receiver, though it's difficult to ascertain at the moment how far NFL teams will drop him down their boards (if he stays on them at all) due to his well-documented problematic past. "There are other good wideouts in this draft, and Green-Beckham could get passed on," Kiper wrote. "If he comes back (he's enrolled at Oklahoma now), stays out of trouble, and plays well, he's a first-rounder next year." We think Green-Beckham would be in the Round 1 mix if he declares early.

If he declares and falls to the back end of the first round he could end up playing with an elite QB. Would be pretty sick.

I bought DGB when his value bottomed out after getting kicked out of Missouri and after Gordon's suspension...

I'm starting to think it might actually pay off. He's gonna be like Dez all over again in terms of how teams perceive him, someone will jump at the end of the 1st.

Now I'm hoping he kills the combine like he's capable of.

Trying not to get my hopes up though. I hope he's learned a lot on the Oklahoma scout team.

If he ends up on GB/NE/Indy he's probably the 4th pick in the draft behind the big three. He comes with significant risk though. The NFL is not going to be easy on players for offseason transgressions.

So other than being tall...what else does he offer? I don't think he has much of a body of work from college and high school means nothing. I'm not going after a guy after hearing some sugar coated coach speak. If he has an issue between his ears and not much of a body of work...why are people all over his jock? Sounds like the Blaine Gabbert effect. Looks good in shorts and on a practice field.

Man, I just find it hard to believe a guy that has two weed arrests, and an.....incident involving a possible assault on a female and who didn't play this year would be considered a 1st rounder.

Little writeup from the CBS guys in his profile:

Green-Beckham endured a difficult childhood in which he was in and out of foster care, but went on to star for Hillcrest high school in Springfield, Mo. While playing for his father, John.

Despite being the No. 1 overall prospect by Rivals.com and No. 3 by ESPN, Beckham decided to stay close to home, choosing Missouri over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, among many others.

He burst onto the scene as an honorable mention freshman all-American in 2012 with 28 receptions for 395 yards and a team-high five receiving touchdowns.

Green-Beckham took over a starting job as a sophomore, leading the team with 59 catches that he turned into 883 yards and a team-high 12 touchdowns.

Expected to potentially be a top 10 pick following the 2014 season, Green-Beckham's lengthy list of off-field issues caught up with him as he was dismissed from the team in April. In addition to multiple marijuana-related issues, he was suspended and eventually booted from the Tigers' program following an incident in which he allegedly pushed an 18-year-old Missouri student down at least four stairs, although no charges were filed.

After exploring various transfer options and even the possibility of sitting out the season, Green-Beckham opted to join the Oklahoma program that had pursued him out of high school. His admission to Oklahoma came with specific stipulations that included continued rehabilitation and drug testing, according to an ESPN report, and Green-Beckham was subject to a "zero tolerance" policy.

I watched him play in Highschool, for what little thats worth. Its very clear that he has a discipline issue, or hes stupid - possibly both. But the kid is the most physically gifted person I've ever seen, literally in my entire life. This kid was Calvin Johnson's size when he was 17.

He is tall but he doesn't move like he's 6'6. He's very coordinated and explosive for his size. He is inconsistent but that's because he's young. I'm very interested in what he runs at the combine. He jumps out of the gym and it's hard to estimate his speed because he has pretty long strides. He still looks fast though and most long striders don't. He looks faster on tape than say an Alshon Jeffery. I hate to say it because I know it's a long shot but he has Calvin upside but with that upside comes terrible off the field red flags.

Dude is a tall 6'5", 225, with 4.3 wheels. If that wasn't enough, he has softer hands than any WR in the draft. He's the second coming of Randy Moss.

The only part I'm not sure about (on the field) is his agility and jumping ability. When I did get to see him play, they were all bombs down the field or balls over short subpar defenders where he just had to raise his hands up to make the catch. Not much footage of him running with the ball in his hands.
