"Whew"? "10 days"? You're joking, right?Whew. 10 days to heal up will help.
Stephania, let's start with what exactly is a high ankle sprain and why it's more severe than regular ankle sprains?
Maurkice Pouncey
#53 C
Pittsburgh Steelers
Bell: It's really where the injury is located. The most common ankle sprain, for instance if you're playing pickup basketball, is when you roll your ankle. Someone goes up to the basket, shoots, lands usually on another player's foot and turns an ankle. The foot points in and all that stress goes to the outside of the ankle and that injures the ligaments down where the ankle attaches to the foot. With a high ankle sprain, the mechanism is different. It's often that the foot is planted and the player's leg gets twisted around. And what happens is it damages the ligaments that are basically at the top of the ankle joint. These are the ligaments that form the roof of the ankle joint where the two lower leg bones connect -- the tibia and the fibula. Those two bones are anchored by ligaments and it helps form the top of the ankle joint. So when those two ligaments are damaged, that's called a high ankle sprain.
Pouncey is confident he can come back in two weeks from this injury. What's been your experience?
Bell: Usually we give an estimate of four to six weeks for a high ankle sprain of the moderate variety. A severe one could take much longer. But you do have some evidence of guys coming back sooner. If you look at [Houston Texans receiver] Andre Johnson, he said he had a high ankle sprain. He later had problems because he tried to push through it, but Johnson was able to play sooner on a less than 100 percent ankle. I think when you look into the context of two weeks, it's the Super Bowl, and Pouncey doesn't have gross instability or a fracture based on what we know. So it will come down to whether the Steelers get the pain down enough and the swelling down enough that Pouncey can have normal motion in the joint and put pressure through the foot. One of the challenges of a high ankle sprain is every time you weight bear or put pressure over the foot, it puts stress right on those injured ligaments. The good news for Pouncey is he doesn't have to go running down the field. In his case, his position helps him. But perhaps the biggest risk is somebody could land on that ankle or twist it again.
Yup plan on being without forte for several weeks. Yipeeee! Not...10 days? He is likely to miss weeks.Whew. 10 days to heal up will help.
Is this what DMC had last year?High ankle sprain is a 4-6 week injury for running backs.
Gotcha, cool I'll mark that down..Yes, Einstein. If he's injured and can't play, you can downgrade him.'kegger said:Can we downgrade him now?
Some players are more injury prone than others. It might be because they run too high or they initiate contact, or that they don't run out of bounds as quickly as their peers, or that they have brittle bird bones. Some guys just don't want it that badly, but I tend to think that's overrated as a predictor, because players want it more when they find out they have a reputation for nursing injuries. But the one predictor that does seem valid is having an nfl starting caliber backup. If you hurt your ankle in the nfl, you play through it. Unless you have a backup like bush in a one back system, in which case you sit out and get healthy. Because a coach really does have the ability, and the motivation, to say, why risk it?If he is seriously hurt, there really is no point taking shots at each other. It's not like it took "skill" for someone with Bush to get a lucky injury (just like Spiller), and its not like it took a "lack of skill" to draft Forte who has pretty much shown us in the little we have seen so far that he is clearly again a top 10 ppr back. Forte has also played 62 of 66 career games.. so it's not like the dude has major durability issues that were a red flag to owners. Sometimes it just comes down to luck. I own Spiller, I don't claim to have a damn crystal ball, I just drafted the dude hoping he would be a decent flex option and got "lucky" with an Fjax injury. Thus is life in fantasy football sometimes.
No, he had a foot injury. Lisfranc I think. Is this what DMC had last year?High ankle sprain is a 4-6 week injury for running backs.

Matt Forte for the $50 in winnings you haven't paid me for years you thief.your crazy if you believe your own post! Makes me laugh really. Do some homework before you post like a fool here.. Forte is already upset and asking for some of the GL work and will be increasingly pissed if he doesn't start getting any. I bet they keep him happy with half of the GL work going forward he's quite capable of scoring inside the five yard line.. Who wants an unhappy RB1 and Lovie is known for keeping his players happy? Also he was about to get a GL TD when Cutler called the TO cuz he couldn't hear and Bush came out with him after that time out. Anyone who watched that game and feels hes a downgrade, I WANT IN MY LEAGUE PLEASE. He came very close to two long tds and those will be coming. To those in standard non ppr leagues, i don't play in those but aren't yards huge in those leagues? How many players put up 120 total yards last week?Im shocked some are some agreeing with this downgrade. Do you guys watch the games or play this hobby? Please TRADE me Forte cheap in every league possible ANYTIME soon.Boo hoo...so the Forte owner got his feelings hurt after receiving some common sense advice? He's clearly not getting in anywhere near the goal-line this season...6 TDs if he's lucky.Add the fact that he's not catching as many passes (as stated directly by Jay Cutler...the guy who won't be throwing to him).Sell HIGH after a pitiful matchup against Indy, one of the worst rush defenses in the league.DowngradeRB LeGarrette Blount, TBRB Delone Carter, INDRB Matt Forte, CHIHUH? Why, you guys didn't know Bush was gonna steal a TD here and there? I just hope your subscibers downgrade him enough that they trade him to me for below value! I don't think you need to list him as a downgrade, if anything I'd put him in as an Upgrade as with that passing attack in Chi now Defesnes will nto be able to key on Forte as much now. Even if Bush taking some TDs away was the reason for a downgrade tag that may now change some as Forte has come out asking that he get some of those short TDs himself, he wants them as he feels he earned them. He didn't get many short TDs last year and still finished as a top RB in the league FF points wise and that wont chance this year even with Bush there. Bad call listing him as a downgrade imo..that needs to change and fast.

DonnyT33... are you a Welcher?
I don't think Forte is any bigger injury risk than any of the rb's.That was unlucky. Nothing Forte could have done differently on that play to prevent it. It is a physical sport and it happens.I targeted Forte in nearly all my leagues this season but I have to admit the injury risk was always in the back of the mind. Tried to pair him up with Bush as a backup as much as possible.
Okay, I'm following the money. The Bears paid Forte $17 million guaranteed. Where, exactly, was I supposed to be following this money to?That's why Bears paid Bush a $4million signing bonus, always follow the money.
The implication that the Bears paid Bush because they expected Forte to get hurt is ludicrous. This isn't a RB like Best who has a history of concussions, or a guy coming off of a major ACL injury like Jamaal Charles or Peterson. A sprained ankle (whether it be a HAS or "normal" sprain) is one of the dangers that ALL NFL RBs face. If it were 1992, that would be a lot of money. This is copied from earlier in the thread that you didn't read:We're really talking about a 28-year-old goal-line back who counts exactly $2 mil against the cap this year. Which makes him just slightly less cap expensive than Kellen Davis and just slightly more expensive than Adam Podlesh. The punter. His cap hit is less than $100,000 more than LaRod Stephens-Howling this year. It's lower than Brandon Jackson in Cleveland. $400,000 less than John Kuhn. $800,000 less than Hillis. $1.37 million less than Leon Washington in Seattle. That's why Bears paid Bush a $4million signing bonus, always follow the money.
Since when does this year's cap number have anything to do with how a team views their RBs? Doug Martin makes less than Michael Bush, are you telling me he doesn't figure as highly into Tampa Bay's plans as Bush did to the Bears to begin the season? If it were 1992, that would be a lot of money. The point is that they didn't give him $18m guaranteed, they gave him $4m. What money would we be following? Did you read the original post? He was refuting FarEastKilla's point that if you "follow the money" that the Bears paid Bush indicates that he was an overly integral part of the Bears team. When you consider that the money paid to Bush is WAY less than what they committed to Forte (and on par with their TE and punter), it tells us that the cap number/money given to Bush means nothing.Since when does this year's cap number have anything to do with how a team views their RBs? Are you suggesting that rookie contracts and free agent contracts are comparable in that regard?Since when does this year's cap number have anything to do with how a team views their RBs? no he didntJ-Stew had a high ankle sprain in pre-season, had to be carted off, and was in crutches following his injury. That was 3 weeks ago and he's playing Sunday. Forte walked off under his own power, got worked on on the sidelines and walked to the lockerroom when it didn't get better.
Chill.

$4 million Signing bonus is guaranteed "front load" money. Most of the players you mentioned received little or no signing bonus."$100,000 more than LaRod Stephens-Howling this year" + $4,000,000If it were 1992, that would be a lot of money. As much chance of that happening as there is of Bush holding off Forte.Luckily I am a Forte owner with Spiller. Maybe Spiller can hold off Jackson when he returns, but if he can't hopefully Forte is back by then.

o you understand the concepts of posturing during contract negotiations? Perhaps about players and management "negotiating through the media?" Because that is what this was.The Bears were putting this out there for several reasons:1-In case they didn't get a contract worked out with Forte, they would have an "out" with regards to their fans-"we didn't pay him because his knees are shot."2-They were trying to "drive down" Forte's value. If this "news" that Forte's knees were bad was believed by other NFL teams, then his value would be diminished. So, the idea of trying to hold out and force a trade, or sign the franchise tender for 1 year and try to become a FA would not have been as lucrative for Forte. The fact that the Bears ultimately signed Forte to a long-term deal, with a fair amount of guaranteed money demonstrates that there "concern about his knees" was nothing more than negotiation tactics. That is pretty easy to see.Everybody including myself were wondering why they included Blount and Carter with Forte. Now it makes perfect sense. I think whoever wrote this is clairvoyant so you better pay attention to their future posts.DowngradeRB LeGarrette Blount, TBRB Delone Carter, INDRB Matt Forte, CHIHUH? Right now, probably a Deangelo Williams and a case of IcyHotIn 5 weeks, probably a Michael BushAnyone looking to buy Forte from desperate owners? I would love to know his value.
That was my offer as well, plus some WR change.I'm thinking of offering Donald Brown for him and maybe throwing in tony gonzalez since he's weak at TE (I have witten). I can't decide if that's too much or too little.
Judging from the posts I've read in this thread, Forte owners would likely be asking for more in a trade today than they were asking last week.Anyone looking to buy Forte from desperate owners? I would love to know his value.
After one week, you're already a lock for the playoffs? That must be a good feeling.Meh... I'm damn near a lock for playoffs so I'm sitting on him. Matthews is back this week or next so i'll be damned if I'm going to fire-sale a playoff contributor.
Some leagues have deep playoffs (ie 6 people make it out of 10-12)... in those leagues you can often get a prety good feel for how you're going to fare based on how your team is shaking out, as well as based on years of experience in that league. Perhaps it's overconfidence but the one league I own him in is one that I'm in the playoffs perennially. The point (I guess) for the masses is consider your situation within the league. Do you NEED to shore up over the next 3-4 weeks, possibly at the expense of production later in the year? OR can you keep enough oars in the water without him to get through the month or so he might miss and then enjoy being back to full-ish strength when the money is on the table. After one week, you're already a lock for the playoffs? That must be a good feeling.Meh...
