Draft Chat With our Draftniks Matt Waldman and Sigmund Bloom Tonight D (2 Viewers)

had to switch to th NFL Network. Boomer is unwatchable. Both Kiper and Gruden look at him like your crazy uncle at xmas,, they silently and politely look his way, and then ignore whatever he just said. when he's done blathering they just start talking about something new.

#Packers WR coach Edgar Bennett said Cobb has ability to carry ball in Wildcat and out of the backfield.
Also talked about his intelligence, maturity, and instant fit with team. Wouldn't be surprised if Nelson is odd man out despite heroics.
Cobb is slow. Nelson will stick. At best (for Cobb) for the first two years would be the same number of catches as Nelson
Not talking immediate. Talking down the line. Cobb isn't slow unless you think average speed for a WR is 4.3 - then yes, I agree he's slow.
He is short, and slow (compared to Nelson/Jennings) Nelson is 6'3" and ran the 100 in college at 10.8.
You're way too hung up on measureables. Rodgers is a smart QB and he's going to learn very quickly that good things happen when he targets Cobb. What is Hines Ward's 40 time and and height compared to typical starting NFL wideouts?

Please.Belichick has officially jumped the shark. What TALENT has he actually gotten in this draft? He basically traded it all away for future picks. Is wussing out of drafting for future picks going to make a team better?I'm astonded at how everyone is falling over Bill when he did NOTHING in this draft.Absolutely NOTHING.
They got a solid tackle, a solid cornerback, a decent RB who many on here really like...and then a couple head scratchers.

WOW

Vincent Brown to the Chargers!!!!

Oh boy, love the situation/QB - You're looking at the #2 to Vincent Jackson for the long haul. He is definitely top 15 on my rookie board.

Cobb = Hines Ward? ok.

The Pettis pick is a head-scratcher. Hands are first-round quality. Speed, routes, and play away from the ball needs a lot of work. Really think this was a poor pick with other receivers available. Pettis will have to become an insanely better route guy to become a solid starter.Disappointed with this pick.
Only thing I can figure is that he could be a big redzone target. But still, I'm less than impressed with the Rams draft this year.
Pettis will have to be a situational player to start. His skill against press and basic routes at Senior Bowl were horrific. I was really looking forward to seeing him, too. Routes shouldn't be this tough in a basic Senior Bowl offense. Dane Sanzenbacher came into practice on Day 2 off a plane and aced the routes. He's a good route runner, but Pettis was so bad that he dropped significantly in my ratings. However, the saving grace could be the McDaniel system and the chance to have rapport with Bradford who might find a way to use his strengths. Pettis has a chance to be the kind of guy that benefits from a QB who has the confidence to throw a player open in tight coverage. If that's the case Pettis could be ok.Vincent Brown to Chargers. That's a real WR pick. Phillip Rivers is going to love him. In fact, I think he's a dynasty pick over Jonathan Baldwin and maybe even Hankerson.

Wussing out of drafting? They've made 5 picks so far, and still got a 1st and 2nd in next year's draft. He likely thinks that the 2012 draft will be better than this year's (not all that far-fetched), and prefers to stock up picks for that one.

Just caught up with the 2nd round on DVR. Did anyone else catch Gruden towards the beginning with his "tweetin' and twattin'" comment?

Cobb = Hines Ward? ok.
He has that kind of toughness and combative approach after the catch. Honestly he is probably faster/quicker than Ward.

I pretty much agree with you. I see very little to get excited about from players they've actually drafted thus far.

Giants take Jernigan. Not a bad round to pick him. Glad he wasn't as vastly overvalued as it appeared on boards of analysts a month ago. However, not sure this is a good match for him.

He needs to protect the ball and learn routes. Just not sure what makes him different from Mario Manningham. More physical, but raw.

Hmm could Mason Foster project to the middle with Ruud likely gone? Don't like the fit as Foster looks sluggish to me, but interesting for IDP ramifications.

I've always felt like Manningham is a short receiver with the skillset for an outside receiver. Jernigan seems to fit more on the inside and in the slot, plus he's a good returner.

I went to CU and want Solder to do well but he's not the second best tackle of this draft. Then he had Mikel Leshoure in his hands and dropped the ball. Ras I?I'm shocked that everyone is falling over themselves, its amazing.

Im thinkingIngram-Green-Jones-Williams-LeShoure-Thomas-Cobb-Little-VBrown-Newton as a top 10 right now.
I like it. I still hold out hope for Hunter if he goes to a good situation. I thought Newton might crack my top 6 or 7 but after today, he's sliding.
Nothing looks nutty there, although I'd think about putting Thomas over LeShoure due to situation. I probably will.
sigh I probably will too. Just hard to let go right now because Im so high on LeShoure's physical upside. I certainly wont fault anyone for going Thomas at 1.4

Seems like he'll compete with Hixon for KR duties. Hopefully he isn't another Sinorice Moss.

Almost has to be Ruud's immediate or eventual successor, although Quincy Black is also a FA. Might have liked McCarthy or Jones better as a Tampa-2 MLB project. Very interested in what Raheem Morris says here.

Oh I would have put Greg Jones as my #1 IDP easy if he was the pick. Sturdivant too.

Better than Moss. Just not convinced he's a high-end slot receiver of the future that warranted as high of a pick as his predraft rating by many. Remember, he ran very limited routes at Troy. He also has issues catching the ball after contact because he doesn't secure the ball. This can be corrected, but it is a very ingrained habit and he takes a lot of punishment for a light guy.

We are midway through the third round and BB has taken 5 players and racked up a 1st and a 2nd next year.Pretty good if you ask me. I'm not going to act like I know how each player will turn out, but they filled a need with OT and CB, it looks like they are revamping their running backs, and they took a gamble on Mallett. If they fix Mallett's "head issues", he has the talent to get them one or two first rounders in the future.

Faulk fell all over himself about Jernigan. Said he catches the ball with "alacrity and abandon".....whatever that means.

Ward 6'0", 4.47 in the 40, 194, started at flanker, tailback, quarterback and split end.

Cobb 5'10", 4.46, 191, started at same positions (although his coach is on the record saying he is more a 4.6 guy)

so similar in many ways, but 5 10 is getting into smurf size

Abandon I agree with. When he catches it, he holds it for several steps like an option quarterback. That's abandon, but also reckless. I watched him drop numerous passes in numerous games because of his habit. Also watched him get stripped as a result.

The more i think about it, the more i like the Mallet pick.Salary will be lowexpectations will be lowAll he has to do is come in showcase some good skills, and QB hungry teams will be suddenly interested.

What is the TALENT that he got from this draft?A 6'8 tackle who plays high and his strenght is over rated. An injury plauged corner.A reach at RB.I do like Mallett but for him to fall, esp in this draft where QBs where flying off the griddle like hotcakes tells me that their is some dirt that we are not privvy to. Mayock nearly spilled the beans but he caught himself and said it wasn't his place to talk about what the kid did off-the-field.Two future draft picks just do not help a SB contending team.I can see how a team like Cleveland who is at least a few years away would trade for future picks and it makes a lot of sense for a team like the Pats to make a judicious trade for future picks but at some point it falls in on itself and we just saw that in this draft IMHO.

Hard to keep up with picks, read the commentary and make timely commments, but some great stuff here.Love the Vincent Brown pick for my Chargers and wondering who they are taking now at 3.25.

We're talking about a guy with first round talent and a ten cent head. All BB has to do is have Mallett show big things in the pre-season and NOT become a coke-head, and Mallett will bring a big ROI to the Patriots. Smart pick.

Santonio Holmes is 5'10" as is Derrick Mason. Cobb has smarts and football skill to develop. The guy has excellent balance and I think he's the second best run blocking WR in this draft. he also has the hand-eye coordination you want. He's what I think people see in Jernigan. Not as fast as Jernigan, but quick, tough, and versatile. He will need to learn the route tree, but I think he shows the on-field IQ/acumen to develop quickly.

Belichick: "It's an important position on our team (QB), and we'll have them in and let them compete."

And they say he doesn't have a sense of humor

I think he compares best to Harvin

I bet Hoodie's a great prankster. That dry as a desert delivery...Nevis is a very nice pick for the Colts. I liked what I saw of him when watching teams face LSU.

It's a great spot for Nevis who is a big undersized and short armed, but game as they come. A nice fit for how Indy plays. He wouldn't work in Dallas so I was happy he went somewhere appropriate. Great kid.

:goodposting: Glad to get this guy off of LSU. Made some huge plays against Bama this year.

Surprised the Falcons took Akeem Dent from Georgia. Jene, any thoughts? I'm just thinking they must be relying on tape from a couple of years ago if they think he's an every down guy. Falcons usually don't take UGA kids - common complaint among homers in state.

Bloom don't you think Little has more opportunity and less competition than Cobb? Just figured you'd flip those 2.
Id agree with both of those, but Cobb has Rodgers and Little has McCoy. I won't argue with anyone taking Little ahead of Cobb though and with time to think on it, I could end up putting Little #7, or even #6.
