Draft Day Random Shots (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys,

Toying with the idea of doing a Random Shots article for the Draft.

Not sure if there's enough material as I normally have 16 NFL games to work with.

Did you see things of note that would be good material? If so, let's hear 'em.

J

Vernon Davis Crying - seems like there is one player every year. Williams was the guy last year.

Matt Leinart being the last in the room waiting for his name to be called. I enjoyed the one shot of his table where you could see the 3 tables around theirs COMPLETELY empty.

Buffalo reaching for both picks in the first round. (Side note, I especially enjoyed that because a good buddy of mine is a huge Buffalo fan, and after the first selection he had a pretty confused look on his face.)

How come Minnesota didn't screw up the pick this year? That was becoming an annual event.

Leinart looking like he was going to :X when they showed him after the Titans pick. Then when they kept going back to his table after all the other guys were gone, he was nowhere to be found. I'm thinking he was in the bathroom losing his lunch.

Anyone else notice the amount of Steelers swag S. Holmes had on hand when he got picked?

That kid was in south Florida. Fed Ex is good but not that good.

Anyone else think Cowher and company did their homework; had a feeling Holmes would be there at a certain point and went ahead and forwarded him the Terrible towel, jersey, hat and obligatory foam finger earlier in the week?

He's been a Steeler fan since he was a kid. Smart young man.

Where was Cutler? It looked like they rented theatre for draft day.

Berman and his annoying feed giving up the pick 15 seconds before Tags could read the card. Aggravating.

They made a bunch of snazzy commercials with several prime prospects including LenDale White, but they didn't show his until he was drafted, which took awhile. It looked like his segment was edited out of a couple.

That is another explanation. Kid is in Florida.

Kid gets picked.

Kid looks like he raided the gift shop at Heinz Field.

I was scratching me head at that point.

What was the deal with the gangsta promos featuring Vince Young, Lendale and others? I'd offer a thumbs-down but I'm using both of them to gouge out my eyes. I notice the NFL didn't smother Jay Cutler in bling and trot him out onto the runway...

Jay Cutler eating a quesadilla, and his mom putting a paper towel on his lap.

I also enjoyed Michael Irving...."Defenses don't win Championships!!"

babes of the NFL draft, NFL Network's Kara Henderson vs. ESPN's Suzy Kolber... I had to stick with Kara

This is a definate. "The cab driver told me....." or something to that effect for every single pick.

Remarkable how quickly lives change...I forget where I saw it but Patriots 4th rounder K Stephen Gostkowski missed seeing his name called on ESPN because he was cleaning up his house for his Mom who was coming over to watch the Draft with him. The irony of this kicker, not expecting to be drafted and not surrounded by any family getting picked while players like Rodrique Wright were drafted hours later and had blowout parties expecting to go in the first few rounds. So within hours Gostkowsk with no fanfare is replacing a legend in NE and Rod Wright with years of hype is lucky to even be drafted by Miami.

when the guys in the green room get drafted they get to go on stage and hold up their team jersey with the #1 on it...except vince young who got a titans #10

one other thing about the uniforms...they were all road (white) gear this year. most people buy the home/color unis and the NFL must have wanted to push the road gear

Michael Irvin continually getting beat down by Mort and Tom Jackson... he was an absolute WASTE. "Defense don't win championships!" "They passed on Jordan!"

I am hoping they take Tom Jacksons and Mortensens reaction to heart and dump this coke sniffer.

I thought they did that?

Dallas Cowboy 6th round draft pick, Montavious Stanley, when asked about why he liked playing nose tackle, responded, "I like to talk dirty to quarterbacks."

Seeing the clothing and color schemes at the Cutler house, I kept expecting to see Florence Henderson and Robert Reed in the background.

How about the great job Packers FB William Henderson did? First, when asked his opinion about the Packers' draft, he used the opportunity to call out Mel Kiper for calling Henderson the worst pick of the day when the Packers drafted him way back when. Henderson's point is well-worn and often repeated each year, but it was a great way to make it on live television. Then, he adamantly defended Favre and refused to bite on the announcers' loaded questions about Favre's performance last year. Also, I liked his refusal to give in to the other players defending LenDale White and sticking to his opinion that White himself bears responsibily for dropping in the draft and it is time for him to get serious if he wants to be a pro.

How about the idiot at the Packer's draft party at the Lambeau Field Atrium who taped out "Walker" on the back of his Packer jersey with "Trader"?

I didn't have the heart to tell him how to spell.

See him here.

Also(posted in other thread) Giants signed a DT named Sir Henry Anderson. Can you imagine what teasing he'll get from Strahan with that name?

In an interview with Trey Wingo, before Trey could even ask a question, Joe Gibbs called out Saulsberry. Seems Saulsberry promised to walk naked from Connecticut to DC if the Skins made the playoffs last year.

Gibbs wanted him on camera to fess up. Wingo completely lost his thoughts and took a minute or two to get the actual interview going. Saulsberry did not show.

No way, Suzy Cobbler rocks. I love how excited she seems about football. Nothing is hotter than that to me...... imagine being married to her and watching sportcenter is what gets HER turned on......She was the best part of the draft.

Irvin ruined the rest of it. He is horrible, he is the 2nd worst analyst on any station. Sorry, no one can push that ###### hodge out of the #1 slot.

:goodposting: I enjoy hearing from players with real comments. I'd like to see more of this in the offseason, not just playerspeak.

That was classic and Wingo looked  until he realized what Gibbs was getting at with the whole thing.Big thumbs up to the USC alum showing up on air to take his medicine.

Maybe they did. I could've missed it.Let me rephrase that: I'm glad I missed it.

Cutler's was the worst of them all...they had him out there in a cowboy hat and all blinged up. He looked like one of the Village People. All of those skits were HORRIBLE, how did those rooks agree to be in those spots?

Henderson is ready for a career in broadcasting right now. Does he do a lot of radio in Green Bay or something? He's really polished behind the mic ... seemed like he'd been at it for a while.

tha announcers acting like they did not know who Davin Joseph, G, OU was and mispronouncing his name ..... in first round.

When the Ravens picked Haloti Ngata, ESPN cut to where he was watching the draft and all of the "women" surrounding Ngata start flashing gang signs and yelling "Nyetta" and then grandma pushes her way in just to smile.

John Lund, AM Drive host at 1270 WXYT in Detroit, with help from Mike Sando

of the Tacoma News Tribune, looked at 17 mock drafts and came up with these

odd stats:

• The only consensus pick was Reggie Bush #1 to Texans...all missed.

• On average the "expert" was 4 for 32 in right team/right player picks.

• On average "expert" picked 26 of the 32 players picked in the first round

regardless of team.

• Every mock had Winston Justice in first round. He went 39th to Philly in

2nd round. Jarrett Bell of USA Today and Don Banks of SI.com had him 8th to

Buffalo.

• Every mock had Chad Jackson, WR Florida in the first round. He went to

the Patriots in the 2nd round, pick 36th overall. Most had him going to

Denver at # 15.

• Frank Croyle of Dratfinsiders.com and Chris Colston of USA Today

picked 1 player/team combos correctly. Croyle picked Nick Mangold to the

Jets at #29. He was the only expert to go 0 for the first 10 picks. He went

0 for the first 28 picks. Colston picked Vernon Davis to the 49ers at #6

and missed 26 straight.

• The draft God, Mel Kiper picked 5 correctly and had 26 of the 32 players

in the first round in his mock.

Lendale White "pretending" to not be able to hear Suzy Kolber once the questions turned tough. Apparently his earpiece was just fine until she asked about his lack of work ethic or the fact he slid to the second round. That was rather convenient in my eyes that his earpiece was malfunctioning and he couldn't hear a thing.

At one point it appeared as if the guys with Leinart were standing up to block the cameras from getting shots of the pathetic look on his face. :X

Good stuff here Raidernation  Someone should post a link to this thread in all the mock draft threads next year. "Experts" getting 1 pick correct in the first :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Couple things.

1) Not totally sure, but I believe The Sporting News official mock draft in their printed magazine had 0 correct in the first round. Seriously, they missed the Packers and Niners? Weren't those two gimmes? I think TSN often makes predictions just to be different than the herd.

2) I'm disappointed in Berman and crew for not making any Chad Jackson jokes with Detroit on the clock in round 1. Heck, I'm disappointed in Tags not announcing that at the podium before announcing the Lions real pick.

Just as an aside, this makes me happy as a DraftInsider fan. There is a pretty big difference in my opinion between scouting a player's future in the NFL and trying to predict where they will get drafted. I would mostly prefer to read the scouting reports and not the scuttlebutt about who goes where. My opinion before this year was that Coyle concentrates more on the scouting. I was happy to see that confirmed.

Hey Guys,

Toying with the idea of doing a Random Shots article for the Draft.

Not sure if there's enough material as I normally have 16 NFL games to work with.

Did you see things of note that would be good material? If so, let's hear 'em.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If I hear the opening riff of "Under Pressure" one more time...
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
LOL it was funny the first 700 times......then it got a little old....

Except for the graphics and on screen clock/pick -- NFL Network, IMO, was way better than ESPN.
