Chaos Commish

Footballguy
Not sure if I chose the right players here. Bettis gone, Duce ready. Kimo gone, replace on the roster. Can't think of a safety that makes sense. I know they have interest in Bing. Who ya got

this is Darnell Bing, unless they trade down which Is what I suspect they'll do. but without a trade, they take him here

Bing plays wih linebacker’s mentality. He’s an extremely hard hitter who likes to really punish receivers who dare to go over the middle against him. He seems to really take it personally. He has good overall speed and plays faster. He is a very good run defender who sheds blocks and takes good angles to the ball carrier. playing at a big time program should prepare him well for the 'Burgh. He has excellent instincts and always seems to put himself in position to make a big play, he does however get nicked up alot. Personally I see him as a good stay at home type to play with Polamalu and even if he is a reach here, and he is, he's a born steeler. he's even got a Steel mill workers attitude.

I go D'Qwell. Not that he's my favorite player on this board (Mangold) or even who would be the best fit (Bing) but a HUGE need on this team and the quality nearly fits the draft position. Foote is cool, and Farrior is still very good, but getting old very quickly. Behind them is who... Kreiwaldt? Farrior gives Jackson a year or two to learn and grow before he has to start which is what Bill and the Steelers generally do. Rookies don't typically start in Pitt.. ILB just doesn't seem quite so deep in this draft and is BADLY needed on this roster. Clark and Logan can fill the safety spot adequately, but if an ILB were to go down for any length of time, this D would suffer for it.' They could have had Thurman cheap last year. This year they have to pay a little more for it.

I missed the poll where Sinorice Moss went to Chicago. IMO, he falls to this spot.

But, if the draft went as we've voted, FS and RDE are their apparent areas of need with 1st round talent remaining. They may like Keisel and Ryan Clark, but can improve.

I like Hali, he's fallen further than he should, but I'm just not sure about him in the 3-4.

Bing seems to make a lot of sense, I'll vote that way.

I omitted Marshall to avoid the split again. Jennings and Joseph have had more fans in these polls (since I included Jennings). I'm a big Richard Marshall fan, but I was just trying to simplify the poll.

I doubt the draft looks like our mock. I think the Steelers could take any of 20 players here. I also think about 3-6 more will already be taken that we haven't voted for yet. So, I needed about 25 options.

As far as who Pittsburgh takes here. Not. A. Clue.

They reportedly love Bing, but I'm hoping for D'Qwell Jackson here. If Bing happens to drop to the mid-second round, the Steelers have enough extra picks that they could wind up with both of them.

I agree completely. But I went Jonathon Joseph. Simply BPA. If they don't retain Ike next off-season they'll need another corner. Joseph doesn't fit the mold of a typical Steelers corner either so it's probably not a good choice, but like I said he seems be the best prospect on the board and it might be a need.

like I said earlier Bing is a reach at 32 but since this wasnt a trading mock we have to make a choice any of the BPA scenarios would fit here, but the most likely would be either a trade down or a BPA along with a trade up in the 2nd to grab Bing. Supposedly when they worked him out he made quite an impression and there was no way they were gonna pay hope top 5 safety money at 2M a year

Installing tile the rest of the day. Need to wrap this up. Still very close. This one's closing in ten minutes.

Any interest in another round, or has the flaws in polling made this a useless time waster?

Even if it's a time waster, it's still worth continuing. If for no better reason than to see Mangold in Houston. ;)

Alright. I'll keep it running, but round one is done, and I'll start round two tomorrow morning for the working crowd (and I'm probably not going to be online to very late tonight).

This poll is CLOSED

ROUND ONE IS DONE

I voted for Mangold. While the Steelers do not need a center, they do need O Line depth. I figure Mangold is such a unique talent (some say best center prospect in 15 years) and "character" person that the Steelers will take him. Think of Webster and Dawson... and Mangold will join them as Steeler Ironmen.

Taking Mangold allows the Steelers to move him or Chukky to Right Guard behind Kendall Simmons. When Hartings leaves, see what Okobi can do at center. If he fails or gets injured, send in Mangold. His extension is up in 2010, then Mangold can step in as full time center after having been in the Steeler's system for 4 years. Or, if he is just that good, there is no reason not to having him immediately replace Chukky, even if the Steeler's promised his agent Chukky is "the" center of the future.

The truth is, Big Ben is the QB of the future. Whatever we can do to lock up the best linemen to protect him is what we do. I hope they do not pass on Mangold, even though D'Qwell Jackson is looking good. D is also a focus we to address this year because of the offensive improvements in Cincinnati, Baltimore, and even Cleveland, assuming Braylon and Winslow are healthy this year, and they continue to focus on Droughns who ran very hard against the Steelers. I think there is pretty good depth in round 2 at OLB, allowing us some flexibility to take a very good center.

I think Cowher is in love with Chris Kemoeatu. He took a bunch of snaps this year. I read somewhere he'll give Simmons a real run for the starting job next year.
