DT Jalen Carter, PHI (1 Viewer)

That gotta be the most childish and bonehead stunt idiotically made by Carter... in front of all TV cameras... in *L*I*V*E. Sheesh!

hopefully it’s a 6 game ban
LMAO Rashee Rice level of bad?
If im not mistaken, spitting on somebody is considered assault by law. Dak could press charges if he wants. Correct me if I'm wrong.

So is fighting so the entire NHL should be in prison in the next few weeks.
Hockey is just crazy I dunno. Players die from slit throats, young fans die from getting puck at 70 MPH to the temple. No one ever had more than 13 teeth.

Just a different breed

The law is the law. Common sense be damned!

Dude should be sending CD a nice gift cuz he took away the narrative that the spitting incident caused a loss

Primetime season opener, w/ Gerald's team involved.

He's absolutely getting suspended. There's no possible way people think otherwise.

You’re obviously joking but see
Hackbart v. Cincinnati Bengals, Inc.

Though this was not a criminal case, the court discussed the involuntary reflex defense regarding aggressive contact during a sports contest. Cincinnati Bengals football player Charles Clark hit Denver Broncos player Dale Hackbart on the back of the head out of frustration after an interception. The play was over, and Hackbart was not looking when he was hit from behind. He broke three vertebrae in his neck and suffered several muscular injuries as a result. The district court stated, “The violence of professional football is carefully orchestrated. Both offensive and defensive players must be extremely aggressive in their actions, and they must play with reckless abandonment of self-protective instincts.” [Hackbart v. Cincinnati Bengals, Inc., 435 F. Supp. 352, 355 (D. Co. 1977), rev’d 601 F.2d 516 (10th Cir. 1979), cert. denied 444 U.S. 931 (1979)].

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the trial court by holding that even a football player may be held responsible for injuring an opponent if he acts with the reckless disregard for the opponent’s safety. Id at p. 92

Generally, fighting in hockey is foreseeable and players consent within reason. But players can be, and on occasion been, charged criminally. Like when Dino Ciccarelli hit an opponent over the head with his stick. Ciccarelli was criminally charged and convicted of assault, and the court delivered a sentence of one day in jail and a fine. Canadian case, but the same applies in the US.

Spitting on someone is assault in Pennsylvania. Clearly this was not the type of assault players consent to in the game.
We’ll see if a prosecutor in Pennsylvania will be willing to charge an Eagles player for this assault.

1 - amazing restraint by the Cowboys. I know the smart play is to throw your hands up and call for the ref, but if someone deliberately spits on me my IQ drops a few points for a moment.

2 - consider myself a bit of a scuzzy *******... And it would take A LOT for me to spit on another man. Especially when my multi millionaire contract rises when I don't spit on people.

3 - seriously, if you're going to spit on a man it better be followed by you swinging on them. All or nothing baby.

I’d toss him out for 2-3 more games
is there precedence for this? i agree that they should, but wonder if this has happened before and what the results were
According to ChatGPT, he won't get suspended. The most infamous case of a player spitting on another player is Bill Romanowski. No suspension. In all other cases, no suspension (just a fine).
To be fair, Romanowski played when men were men. He was a crazy dude.

The Dak thing is comically ridiculous and is the most delusional copium I've seen in some time. Disgusting apologia.
Nobody is excusing Carter. But Dak spit first. With the supposed emphasis on taunting this year, I would expect a hefty fine coming his way.

Spitting on the ground 10 feet from somebody is something different than spitting on somebody.

Spitting in the direction of a player and then giving them a "sup" look is indeed taunting. I expect Carter's fine to be larger than Daks if that makes you feel better.

I don’t care about Dak expectorating and can’t possibly know his intent. The league won’t do a thing. It’s like jaywalking in a town without any cars.

Carter spit in the dude’s face quite deliberately. There’s very little to suss out if piece together. He meant to.

The comparison is flat out ridiculous.

Not comparing. Carter got ejected and will still get fined.

Dak also taunted and should get fined. Clear video evidence. If the NFL is serious about taunting as they say, a fine will come.

suspension is very unlikely. No real history, and ejection happened very very early. When ejections happen that early, the game the player was ejected from is considered as if it was a suspension. In this case, it's also obvious that it was provoked by DAK, who should get a fine.

Sure it is, but Daks post game comments were absurd in light of the video. He was CLEARLY baiting/taunting Jalen. It was no "misunderstanding" as he made direct eye contact while doing it and went out of his way to spit in his direction. Jalen is an idiot for responding, but Dak is no innocent in this one.

Also, the Hurts hate is confusing to me. Dude had fantastic numbers 19 of 23...when at least 3 of those were throw aways under pressure? A 50 yard dime to a fairly well covered WR? Great rushing numbers? Someone at the game said that WRs were not open downfield.

Dak spit on the ground and looked at a player with a “sup?” look? And he’s going to get fined for that? 😂
They gave a 15 yard penalty for a dude flexing after a tackle. He might also get a fine. So yes. Dak should get a fine if taunting is taunting as they say.

If you spit on somebody, you’re a dirtbag. FULL STOP.

Kudos to Dak for being a savvy vet and poking the bear and getting the ultimate reaction. He knew what he was doing.

And, I’ll be honest, the context softens my outrage towards Carter. I still think he is a selfish, immature jackass and a dirtbag. But, I’m more disappointed in him taking the bait and being stupid than I am if he had just spit on Dak out of the blue.

Ofc, I’ll readily admit, I gotta watch this jamook wreck games wearing my team’s colors, so I’m doing ethical gymnastics to be able to root for him.

If there's no real precedent for a suspension for spitting on someone, Carter may be the player the NFL wants to make an example of.

Ain't no Hurts hate here. The guy wins everywhere he goes. FF boners want the stats. Teams want wins. Hurts delivered at Bama, OU, and PHI. Dude is 101-32 in his pro and college careers.

Everyone knows Carter is a knucklehead. Easy to bait into doing something dumb

And this shouldn't be the case, since he has received his game check.
