DEUCE OUT WITH SWOLLEN KNEE

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 26, 2008, 2:09 p.m. EDT

Saints running back Deuce McAllister missed practice today because of a swollen left knee, and coach Sean Payton says he’ll get an MRI to determine whether there’s cause for concern.

Payton said it swelled up after yesterday’s practice and trainers had to drain fluid from it.

McAllister started the first three games of the season last year before suffering a torn ACL in the left knee. He had surgery to repair the ligament, and he also had off-season surgery on his right knee, which he blew out in 2005.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune writes, “the normally easy-going McAllister didn’t have the look of someone who was unconcerned.”

If healthy, McAllister would likely be the Saints’ starting running back, splitting carries with Reggie Bush, with Aaron Stecker and Pierre Thomas also likely to see playing time.

Anytime the HC says the words MRI be very worried about said player esp. a guy like Duece who might be on his last legs so to say.

Boost up Pierre and Reggie and put Stecker back on the radar but be very careful with the Duece..

I might also add that is this MRI comes back bad, say another reconstruction surgery, it could be it for Duece..as in all done as any type of decent NFL RB. Hopefully he just needs a cleaning out from the earlier work done this year..either way this is a big heads up for any Duece owners and potential drafters of him...

Thoughts?

start the Pierre Thomas bandwagon thread now.
There's always cause for concern. It's too bad too. Deuce has been a great teammate and I'd hate to see him leave like this.I've had several people try and get Pierre Thomas from be this off season. He doesn't look that great but you never know.

Duece was in pads running plays with the team this afternoon and looked decent. While he did not run full speed, I did not see him limping either. There could be a lot of committee work in New Orleans this season.
