That could become an issue down the road, but if Freddie and Marshall can stay healthy there are plenty of 2004 RB points here. The other concern regarding this duo's age is that fresh legs in the form of rookie pick 1.01 was traded away to land QB Vick. The futures of O Smith and L Suggs, both taken in the 4th, will go a long way in determining if Team Pepe's draft was a successful one or not. If these guys end up as productive starters, this owner will look like a genius. If they sit behind M Bennett and W Green, two high picks were burned and there's not much backing up Taylor and Faulk. The futures of Pittman (7th) and Bettis (8th) are too limited to spend picks here when WR help was needed. Fisher, Mungro and Askew don't add much. Nine RB picks total, and rookie pick 1.01 gone - let's hope O Smith and Suggs pan out. WR was largely ignored early. Bruce (31) in the 5th was the first WR drafted, to be paired with Muhammad (nearly 31) and/or underachieving T Taylor. Muhammad's cap number could make him a cap casualty cut despite his resurgence in the 2nd half of 2003. More than likely, however, he will restructure. Perhaps Taylor will put up better numbers with Boller's maturity, but if T Owens ends up a Raven and with Heap around I don't see enough balls going Taylor's way to make him more than a fantasy backup. J Reed is a possession guy who disappointed in 2003 and doesn't have great upside as Buffalo's WR2 in their new ball-control offense. Gage is an interesting prospect. OC Terry Shea may be able to use Gage's height and athleticism to turn him into a pretty decent fantasy player. Let's see how their new offensive scheme works out and whether Gage or D Terrell is a beneficiary of it. Campbell and Looker are their teams' 3rd or 4th WRs who see playing time but will not be impact players. Pretty weak group overall as Team Pepe placed his emphasis at RB instead. Rookie pick 2.01 could be a nice WR in a year or so, though, if that's the position chosen. The deal that jettisoned rookie pick 1.01 moved Team Pepe into position to draft Michael Vick in round 2, who has the potential to almost singlehandedly win fantasy contests sometimes with his arm and legs. He still has to show he can be a consistent passer in the NFL though. R Grossman is the other QB on the roster, a 10th round pick (and NFL 1st round pick) who shows a lot of promise. I look for Team Pepe to add Vick's or Grossman's backup once all the offseason dust settles.Elling Min and the Giants' DT were picked, and Team Pepe will use the WW for additional needs here. This team's 2004 outlook is dependent primarily on the health and production of Taylor, Faulk and Vick while the future outlook is largely dependent on Suggs and/or O Smith being productive starters and not career backups. Team Pepe could be a very good team this year or a huge flop. I'm on the fence on this one.

Well, that's all 14 of them. I hope someone out there found them an interesting read. In my own prep for MOXFFL III coming up in 8 days or so, I found it useful to do these reviews and get a feel for how different strategies seem to have worked out. So, my efforts here weren't entirely selfless. Damn, though, it sure took a lot more time than I expected!

Bruce..thanx again for the effortWe all appreciate your taking time to evaluate the draft and rostershopefully, the rest of the board finds some use from the analysis

Ariakas provided some analysis on MOXFFL-II so figured would reciprocate. Of course my personal biases will come out in some cases and this doesn’t take into account who is drafting where in the rookie draft which could have a big impact given the quality of this year’s draft.Thundering Herd – Good QBs, great WRs and never huts to have Holmes. Has a good chance to win this year but no real 2nd RB and needs to pick up some RBs with upside to contend in the future.St.Croix Bandits – Best dynasty player in my opinion in LT and decent RB depth. Youth, youth and more youth at QB and WR. Can’t see this team in the running this year with those QBs but great future.Packyderms – Really like this team. The RBs are great and it may actually help this team if Portis is traded. Good QBs also. The question marks are at WR and if these can come through this team will be force this year and in the future – Andre Johnson is going to be a stud, maybe not this year but soon.Tomakomai Turtles – Another team you got to like. Solid team throughout with a good mix of guys that will produce this year and in the future. QBs are getting on a bit and some question marks at the 2nd RB position in the short term but that is getting picky.Fighting Amish – QBs are very young and may need a bit more seasoning while the RBs are very solid but some are a little long in the tooth. The WR corps is solid with good depth although maybe lacking studs. Don’t think they have a chance to win this year with the youth of the QBs but starting next year they should be a force for 2 or 3 yrs and then may need an infusion of youth at the RB and WR positions.Hells Satans – Like the QBs and RBs although would have been nice to have been able to handcuff Davis with Foster. Don’t like the WRs but as likely will be starting 3 RBs should be able to find 3 reasonable WR starters each week, the problem will be figuring out who – if Boston rebounds that will be big for this team.Westchester Barbarians – Maybe the best fantasy QB in the league and Ricky Williams are very nice. Should be able to find a 2nd starting RB between Dillon and Jones each week, maybe a 3rd if both produce. WRs will be a problem and finding the 5th and 6th guys to start between the RBs and WRs.Dirty South All Stars – Cant’ help but have great QBs when you have Manning and really like the Alexander/Morris combo. Something could turn out okay with some of the other RBs (maybe Dunn or Johnson) but big question marks on finding a 2nd starting RB. Could make up for this if have good WRs but have my doubts that Mason and 4 TEs will provide the needed production.Short Buss All-Stars – Won’t have a problem with the first 4 starting RB/WRs in Alexander, the Tenn RB, Harrison and Price each week. However, gets a little thin when finding reliable 5th and 6th starters. The QBs are not spectacular but are solid but will need an infusion of youth in a year or 2.Smackdown – This team looks a bit like mine in MOXFFL-III. Amazing WRs, best in either league. Also like the QBs as Pennington looks like he could be a stud and think Rattay will be the guy in SF. RBs are obviously the problem and although have lots of quantity, very slim on quality and finding a reliable starter.Recreational Chemists – McNabb is underrated and should be the 4th best QB from a fantasy perspective. Like Henry and Rudi but both these guys have some question marks regarding playing situations. No WR studs but some bright spots. Finding the 6th starter between the RB and WR position could be an issue but that pretty well applies to every team. Purple Crows – Youth and potential at RB. In a year this team could have the best RBs in the league without having a top 5 guy – could happen this year but only one guy that is a sure starter at the moment who won’t be splitting carries. QB is the Achilles heel as Brady is a better NFL QB than fantasy QB and he is the only starter. If have 4 starting RBs should be able to overcome the team’s WR shortcomings, but if don’t will need WR help.Longshotz - The RBs are looking good, especially with Barlow solidifying that he will get a lot of touches this year. If Arizona doesn’t draft a QB, McCown could turn out to be a pleasant surprise, which this team may need depending on Bulger. Good top end WRs but not much depth, again, finding the 5th & 6th starters each week at the RB/WR positions could be an issue. Pepe Delgados – Another team I like. Very nice RBs and Vick, with a couple good WRs (maybe great in the case of Rogers) thrown in. Depth at QB and relying on only the Giants D could be problems but again that is getting picky.

BarlowCMartrookie 1.02HoltChambersRice/Engram(no DJax, remember)/Toefield/JordanI'll take my chance in a 14 team league, w/Bulger @QB and this lineup...bring 'em on!!!

You also need to factor my 1.03 & 1.06 rookie picks. I'll take 2 of (RBs-Jackson & K. Jones (or another RB if they go to NE,Dallas, etc.) WRs-Fitzgerald, Roy-Mike-Reggie Williams). Those are the guys who will fill out the starting lineup before the season is over. I will use Streets, Hearst, Lee, Galloway etc. until then.I'll take this lineup:QB-McNairRB-EdgeRB-George/BrownWR-HarrisonWR-PriceFlex1-Rookie 1.03Flex2-Rookie 1.06K-EdingerD/ST-Chiefs (#4 last year in MOXFFL 1)

Fighting Amish

QB - D. Carr/J. Delhomme

RB - A. Green

RB - T. Barber

WR - D. Jackson

WR - P. Burress

Flex - C. Garner/T. Wheatley/R. Gardner/K. Johnson/D. Bennett

Flex - C. Garner/T. Wheatley/R. Gardner/K. Johnson/D. Bennett

K - J. Kasay

D - Packers

I'm not counting on any of my rookies starting, but I have 3 of the first 24 rookie picks, so who knows? Who knows where Garner and Bennett end up? Who knows how much playing time Wheatley and K. Johnson get?

When does the season start?

SmackdownRookie picks: 1.05 / 2.05QBStart: Pennington, Chad NYJBench: Gannon, Rich OAK / Tuiasosopo, Marques OAK QB / Rattay, Tim SFO QB=> Took Pennington purely as a best available talent pick although I had several near-miss trade offers around that spot with others wanting him too. I think I'm in great shape for backup depth and could possibly deal a QB for RB help later on.RBStart: Bennett, Michael MIN / Buckhalter, Correll PhiProspect Bench: Smith, Musa BAL / Pinner, Artose DETDeep Bench: Betts, Ladell WAS / Sapp, Cecil DEN / Haynes, Verron PIT=> Do I feel bad rooting for Jamal to go to jail? Now that Stewart is cut perhaps Pinner can emerge too. CBuck is the GL back and Bennett has break-away potential. Not the greatest situation but both are young and I only need 2. If a 3rd or more emerges this year I'll be thrilled. Missed on Betts but they don't call him Porcellain Portis for nothing. My deep bench may emerge with value TBD.WRStart: Moss, Randy MIN / Johnson, Chad CIN / Robinson, Koren SEA / Heap, Todd BALBench: Jacobs, Taylor WAS=> Could very well deal Koren for a RB but other than bye weeks there should be little to worry about assuming top WR's can pace top RB's. Once again the theme is young and something to build on. Picks 1.05 and 2.05 could force Heap to the bench if nothing else. Only 2 WR's are needed so depth is probably fine unless all 4 are required to start.PKPickem: Elam, Jason DEN / Stover, Matt BAL PK - 5 => Stover was recently cut and I figured wtf. May keep both may trade or cut. If nothing else I'm hoping to gain a few points over other lesser PK's to make up for any loss at #1 RB that my WR depth can't overcome.DTStart: Patriots, New EnglandBench: Bears, Chicago=> Again, the Bears were cut so I figured wtf. The Pats I am banking on to help make up a few more points over the average team too.

I can't resist adding my squad to this discussion since I've taken some heat about it.

Lineup:

P Manning

S Alexander

W Dunn

D Mason

T Gonzalez

J Shockey

Crumpler (he's gonna explode this year if Vick stays healthy)

Longwell

Panthers

QBs- Peyton Manning, Tommy Maddox, Chris Simms- Manning is obviously my guy, I think Maddox will make a capable backup in an emergency this year only, but then he's probly back to selling shoes or something. I know he's not on anyone's list of go-to guys, but in his defense, the Pittsburgh O-Line couldn't stop a 3yr old last year. I'm thinking they'll improve a bit this year. Simms could be a top 10 QB in two to three years (could happen  ).

RBs- I was real happy to get Alexander and Morris, I targeted these two a long time ago. Shaun has been on every fantasy team I've ever had, I believe he's the 2nd best fantasy back in the game (Portis gets hurt too much, LT gets the nod cuz his team sucks and he still dominates!). Alexander has quietly been one of the best the last few years and last year was his best season because he was consistent. Morris has all the skills that Alexander does; he will be a starter somewhere in a couple years. The rest of my RBs have some potential, nothing to brag about tho: Dunn, Griffith, Peterson, LJohnson

WRs- This is where I think I really dropped the ball ;) . Some guys say Mason is too old, but he still produces like a young guy- the difference is that he produces now instead of later. Bryant Johnson is a long shot, I'm hoping that Denny Green will take Eli Manning and BJ will become the next Marvin Harrison while Bolden disappears- :rotflmao: it could happen. Jurevicious could bring me some points with Mason.

TEs- some people really criticized me for taking so many tight ends, I understand they're not required, but some of these guys outperform alot of WRs. I see Gonzo and Shockey as atleast two top 20 WRs to go with Mason, a top 10 WR, and see myself in good shape. Franks and Crumpler obviously need some explanation, so here it goes: I figure that most of the low ranked receivers may catche a few passes a game. Those passes will most likely be meaningless, so why take them in a fantasy draft? A good TE is more likely to catch a few passes, specifically near or in the end zone, which potentially brings more points to my team. So, again, why would I want to draft no name WRs that will most likely have a very insignificant effect on my team?

K- Longwell, nuff said

D/ST- Panthers/ Bengals/ Niners- Panthers and Niners tend to put up big plays and/or shut down opponents, which equals more points. The Bengals have Marvin Lewis, give him some time. I thought Defenses had considerable value because of the scoring possiblities. I figure by having three good teams to choose from means that my opponents do not, so I have an advantage.

In case you couldn't tell, this was my first Dynasty draft. I actually feel fine with my team- other than WR. I'm gonna have to make some deals to add depth in the future, but I believe that the Dirty South All Stars are at least a playoff contender. I may be wrong, but that's why we play the games.
