Dynasty roster limits (1 Viewer)

I'm likely starting a new dynasty league next year. I plan on 12 teams. I'd like to have deep rosters but still leave a "little" on the WW. Rosters will be limited to 2 D's and K's but I'm looking for input on what the total roster limit should be for each team......THANKS in advance for your input.....

It depends a bit on scoring rules, starting requirements, and whether IDP is involved. I'd say no lower than 20 and my preference is usually in the 24-28 range if it's only offensive players. I like to allow owners to have foresight to take players but give them time to develop. The shorter the bench, the less the emphasis on the rookie draft. It's all about what most of the owners want to focus on I suppose.

:goodposting: Use the calculator and if you have a Dynasty Factor of about 3-4 you're in good company.Roughly 3x your starters is a good number, or to be more specific 3x offensive players and 2 slots for K and D (although not mandatory - just for math).Example: Start 1QB, 2 RB, 3WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1K, 1D:Eight offensive positional starters gives 8x3 =24 spots. Add 4 for K and D and you're at 28.That puts you in the right ballpark.HTH

Thanks for the info....I'll be using a 1/2/3/1/1/1 starting lineup with no IDP's. My initial thoughts were between 24 and 30. The formula would add up to 25 for this system. Anyone else with any input?

If I'm understanding him correctly, I think Jeff might have taken Rads(good) post a little far. I'm not sure. Ya see you get to a point where "everyone" is on a roster and you inadvertently "kill" the WW. It's odd because it's just a small difference but 24 seems fine and 28-30 seems like "pushing it".....yet I agree with his logic :bag: Sorry to confuse ya but think on it

The shorter the roster, the less likely reason there is for a trade. I joined a 12-team, 20-man roster (start 1 Team Defense) earlier this year and was able to pick up Marques Colston and Ladell Betts before Week 1 and Tony Romo just last month. With those kind of players available there's no reason to make a trade. In this league one hasn't been made since I joined.

So with that said, I agree that the 24-28 is good, while 32-34 would be great.

:goodposting: Also a good point.Taking 12x25, you have 300 players rostered. At 12x34, you'd have 408, which is a lot.If you want to push trading, then a bigger roster would do that. It would also foster a developmental type team (say draft 5-7 rounds and have room on your bench to let them grow).A nice mix might be a Taxi Squad for rookies (up to 2 or 3 yrs experience) of say 4 or 5 spots and the rest for your active roster. That would get you to about the same position.

Very interested in this topic as my league is currently discussing roster expansion. Can you please point me to Rads post that you reference. Thanks.
