East Bound and Down (2 Viewers)

cant believe no one mentioned what a rocking body April has. God that was so unexpected to see her that thin.Hope they show us the goods soon.Ps as for the episode i thought it was weak
Does anyone else find it odd that as soon as we here at the FFA start wanting to see April's goodies they show them? Do you think it's possible they read the FFA?Hey if you are reading this would you mind having April hold 2 pennies next time?

From Bill Simmons column today:

Q: So, I just watched "Escape From New York" for the first time (one of your favorites), and as much as I enjoyed it, I found that the only thing I ended up paying attention to during the movie were Adrienne Barbeau's SPECTACULAR bosoms. I kept trying to concentrate on the plot, but they were just too distracting and seemed completely out of place. Can you think of other "good" movies where obscene amounts of cleavage or the overall hotness of a female character distracts from the movie to the point where it may even hurt the film?

-- Travis, San Francisco

SG: That's what we call "a good problem," my friend. It just happened with my favorite new show of 2009: HBO's "Eastbound and Down," which could be best described as "A crazier and even more offensive John Rocker-type named Kenny Powers loses his baseball career and goes back home to become a still crazy and still offensive teacher." Kenny's well-endowed ex-girlfriend overshadowed every one of her scenes; you just kept thinking, "Come on, it's HBO, get this girl in a shower or something!" (Let's just say those wishes pay off in the season finale. Just call me the Mr. Skin of sports columnists.) But again, this was a GOOD problem. I don't think this is a show for everyone -- it's silly and raunchy -- but it made me laugh at least twice an episode and nothing makes me laugh anymore.

(My only issue was Kenny's pitching motion: For someone who allegedly threw 101 mph, it looked like he was tutored by Tim Robbins and the guy who played Kevin Costner's dad in "Field of Dreams." I couldn't get past it. It's not a good sign when your flamethrowing pitcher looks like Lamar throwing the javelin for Lambda Lambda Lambda. Regardless, I loved this show and hope it comes back. Knowing HBO, they'll probably only bring it back if Season 2 revolves around Kenny seeing a therapist.)
Simmons cant be foolish enough to actually think those were hers?I guarantee he will get dozens of emails about this and he will talk more about this next column
Final e-mail from the latest mailbag:
Q: I'm reading your mailbag 10 minutes after I watched the finale of "Eastbound & Down." Hate to ruin it for you, but remember how the camera cuts away from Kenny Power's ex-girlfriend's face as she removes her bra? When the bosoms are finally exposed, we never see her face (opening the door for a body double). She's wearing a back-clasp bra, but when the goods are revealed in the close-up, it's a front clasp. Also, I rewound the Tivo to do a comparison of her goods in her bra while she's making out with Kenny and the naked goods that the camera freezes on. After five minutes of thorough analysis, they are NOT her boobs.

SG: Yup, these are my readers.
FTR he's right. Very easy to tell those were a stunt doubles.

I guess I'm late to the party, but I watched the entire 6 episode series over the weekend, and laughed my ### off. I agree with the guys who are saying that it isn't just a brainless comedy. the points where you see Kenny dealing with sadness, regret, embarrassment, they wouldn't show those kinds of things if they weren't trying to provide some depth to the character. and when they showed that April is the one who bought his bat on ebay, that would be an unnecessary scene if they were just going for laughs.

anyway, I love it and I hope they keep it up for a few more seasons. I can't get enough of Danny McBride cussing.

Did the same, not totally in love in with it, but it was an entertaining 3 hours. And I was struck with Katy Mixon (April) after an episode of My Name is Earl last year. Glad to see her getting some more work :kicksrock:

There are so many classic quotes from this show. I may have to devote a webpage to the fine words of Kenny Powers.

"I got an arm like a cannon, c*ck like a burmese python, and a mind like a f*cking scientist."

HBO renews 'Eastbound & Down'

HBO has announced that it has commissioned a second season of the comedy Eastbound & Down. New episodes of the show, which stars Danny McBride as a disgraced baseballplayer, will probably be broadcast next year.

 The art of cussing is very difficult to pull off and I can't think of many that do it better than him. The tone, facial looks and how he says it is hilarious.

So where do we go from here?

Pick him up in Tampa for a few episodes like Tony in Vegas on the Sopranos?

This show is too good just to go back to the formula of him going back to his small town. Kenny needs new adventures, they played that Principal storyline out. But Stevie Janowski needs a place!

I was talking to friends about this - I think the second season should be a prequal to the first. Not necessarily show "the rise" of Kenny Powers, but certainly have a majority of the season take place as a flashback to his days as a pro. I'd love to have an episode take place at the cookout he referenced to his brother in the 4th episode. Maybe from there, even have some flashbacks to his days in high school. I think they could definitely come up with a good amount of episodes taking place while he was on top before returning to the present day in the 3rd season.

There's plenty of great storylines to be had but I like the flashbacks. Maybe he'll eventually show up on the island with the Lost gang. I'd love to see him interact with Locke and bang the snot out of Kate.

I watched the full 6 episodes last night. I don't know how I missed this before. It's so hilarious. I can't think of many shows I've ever watched that make me laugh out loud, but East Bound and Down manages to make me do it numerous times per episode.

I'm very glad to hear it's coming back for more. Has anyone watched the HBO On Demand behind the scenes stuff? It's pretty funny to see how they interact and ad-lib on set. Apparently a lot of the lines are ad-libbed.

Can somebody find me a video clip on-line of "listen you beautiful #####, I'm about to #### you up with some truth" please? I can find every other classic line/scene but that one.

Will Ferrell's internet comedy site comes to cable next month with "Funny or Die Presents," a half hour sketch show based on the hit website. It starts Feb. 19, accompanying the second season of another show Ferrell produces "Eastbound & Down."

Also starting Feb. 19 "The Ricky Gervais Show" is an animated version of the hit podcasts of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.

"Flight of the Conchords" may not be coming back, at the decision of the comedy duo that starred, but a new comedy about another young duo in New York, "How to Make it In America" starts Feb. 14.

A second season for "Hung" returns in summer 2010 alongside "entourage" also coming later this year, new seasons for "Bored to Death."

;) That sucks though. I love FOTC, although Season 1 was WAY better than 2.

Also, based on the comments below that blog, it appears that Feb 19 is not the date for EB&D . . . ####

Official FOTC statement that there will be no season 3.

Season 2 of HBO’s “Eastbound & Down” will take place in Mexico, where fallen baseball star Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) has gone after leaving North Carolina at the end of the brief but brilliant first season. Michael Pena (Crash) and Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre, Cop Out) will join the cast.

In Season 2, hiding from his problems, Kenny finds himself in Mexico where he joins a local baseball team. Pena will play Kenny’s friend and owner of the baseball team he joins. De la Reguera will play Kenny’s love interest in Mexico.

Because of the new setting, most of the cast members from Season 1 of the show will have little or no presence next season with the exception of Steve Little whose character Stevie Janowski will track Danny down in Mexico. Casting is underway for the role of Kenny’s father.
