By reading this thread it looks like these things just might work. I’m thinking of starting using these as well but I’m concerned that I will just be wasting money. Can anyone recommend a starter package at a particular company?

Yesterday I stopped at a 7-11 and picked up one there and tried it but I wasn’t really impressed but not to the point of not trying at all.

One question I have is how do you know when you’re finished a smoke session? I took a bunch of drags (about 10) of one yesterday but less than 30 minutes later I wanted a real smoke.

Yeah those convenience store models are pretty basic and I wouldnt use that as a basis to make a decision to give e-cigs a shot. I tried one and they are a joke compared to what most of us have ordered and have been using.As BigJim posted, the Vapor4Life XL kit ($65) or one of the Bloog Maxx Fusion kits ($80 and up for the 2 battery kits) are the 2 Id recommend. The V4L kit is cheaper (and includes a USB passthrough), but I believe the Bloog might a bit better model of vaporizer in terms of performance. It really depends on what you want in your kit. Check them out and ask any more questions you might have and we'll be happy to help you make a desicion.

As for the smoke session, I stopped having them when I got my kit. I just take a hit or 2 or 3 or 4 whenever I feel like I need it. I dont take 10-20 hits like I would with an analog, because I dont have a lit analog that will go to waste if I dont puff on it until its gone. Then go invest in the Chinese companies, I don't know what to tell you. As of now, I don't know of a single publicly traded U.S. company involved. Personally, I disagree that the big tobacco companies are going to buy up all the e-cig and juice manufacturers/vendors. It's apples and oranges compared to what they do now, short of perhaps extracting from tobacco leaves to make a juice base. It's nothing like GM buying up a company manufacturing electric cars, they won't be able to buy and sit on all the patents and keep the product out of people's hands. It's too in your face. Word of mouth is already causing this stuff to spread like wildfire. The commercials are on TV, the kiosks are in malls, the infrastructure is developing. It's a lot easier for a smoker to see someone in a bar with one of these and say "hey, what is that?" and then sink $50-100 into quitting smoking than it is for someone to learn about and acquire an electric car. Take a look, this one thread alone has caused maybe 10-15 FBGs to drop the cigs and pick these things up. It's going to snowball.If anything, I think the big tobacco manufacturers will just have to export more, but their market share is going to be depleted and the landed cost of their product is going to go up, so I think you're going to see a slow death. Perhaps they'll get bought up by international conglomerates, much the way Anheuser Busch did. In any event, there's no way to turn a quick buck yet that I know of. And why did you capitalize Mastodon, are you talking about the band?

That's the question I get the most too - do you hit it more often than a regular cigarette / how do you know when to stop / how many times do you puff it at a go? I tell people to just get it and they'll fall into their own rhythm. It really doesn't take long to find a "groove" so to speak, and listening to your body and your cravings (or lack thereof) is the best way to know when to start/stop, IMO.

I have the USB here on my desk and I find myself hitting it every 15 minutes or so. I usually only hit it once each time and I'm satisfied. I'm using the 18 nicotine and that's just about right for now. I was an ultra light smoker.

I started with 18mg and was for about 3 days vaping that and finishing off my analogs (2 1/2 to 3 pack a day M'Boro lights smoker), and had ordered some 24's before dropping the analogs for good. I ran out of 24's for two days, and it was really getting to me. On my last order, I decided to get some 36mg too.

Well, I am just completely blown away. The 36mg cafe mocha from V4L is unbelievable. I've been vaping for a week with no analogs, and this is the first time my urge has been completely wiped out, down to zero. Before now I was left wanting more somehow. Not now.

Maybe I'm going in the wrong direction, upping the nicotine. Bottom line, I was a very heavy smoker, as much as 3 packs a day at times. I think my regular has to be 24mg with an occassional 36mg. The 18mg just doesn't quite get it done. The last two days were getting increasingly more difficult. I think I have finally found my sweet spot. 24mg most of the time, some 36's on hand for the occassional vape when needed. There really is a big difference for me as far as the nicotine dosage goes.

All of these vaping suppliers are start ups. Privately owned. Most just import from China, some produce juice and "mods" here. I think some very few are starting to manufacture cartridges here.

I ordered some 24s and was blown away. I can only take a few puffs of 24 before very quickly retreating to 18s which I prefer. But just having that extra umph available was HUGE in the mental battle. So, find the strength that comforts you most of the time, but splurge the $9.00 to get a spare pack of the higher potency carts to use if/when you need it. Don't make the ecig transition any harder trying to beat nicotine right out of the gates. Serve your needs and win the war.

Good for you! What battery system did you get? Using a tobacco flavor? I was certain I'd never like any "other than tobacco" flavors, but man, this cafe mocha from V4L is really freakin tasty! I am beginning to see why so many that vape have an assortment of flavors on hand. Funny how as smokers it was ONE brand, one cigarette. Wingnut... yes, the 36 delivers! Two vapes and any thought of an analog goes out the window 100% totally and completely! The cafe mocha 36.... it almost tastes TOO good. I have to leave it somewhere I can't easilly just pick it up. I keep wanting to go back to it. I really need to stick with the 24mg stuff 90% of the time. I've almost run through my 30ml of 18, good thing I don't have much use for it now. I may use it down the road to cut a custom juice blend with some 36mg juice. I have four 8mg cartos I don't know what to do with. I can't fill 'em, I can't vape 'em.

LOL... yes. The goal is to be free of all this stuff at some point. I won't put a timetable on it now. I'm VERY happy with where I am so far. There was no way short of a miracle I could stop smoking. No way. Here I am, day 8 and counting. Only a week ago I was puffing away almost 3 packs a day. THE most cigarette addicted person you could EVER meet. At a restaurant I would leave the table at least 3 times for to go outside for a butt. Sometimes I would actually light up a second one before the first one was done. I would power smoke. The cherry would get so long it looked like I was tokin a joint. That's why I'd light up a second one. Too hot to smoke. I used to hear people say "If I could quit, so can you." and that was a load of horse chit. Some one pack a day person telling ME that. LMAO, I knew I could NEVER quit. I had tried so many times. Day 8...

I agree. What an inspirational endorsement. If you can do it, I can definitely do it. Funny story you've reminded me of - my roomate in college was such a smoking addict he'd actually set his alarm clock for 3:30 AM just so he could have a cigarette and go back to bed!And on coffee flavors, I'm right there with you bro. I've been using cafe mocha 18 today and while it does not have a great TH, it has great rich flavor. I've also been taking a few puffs of an Expresso 24 that came in a coffee sampler. Wow, I need this in 18 because it's outstanding and I hate that I have to put it down after 2-4 puffs being at 24 mg. This would make a great all-day blend. I'm really loving coffee blends, and actually killing 2 birds with 1 stone... I've always been an all day/all night coffee drinker and find myself having gallons of plain water smoking coffee blends during the afternoon/evening. I imagine I'll start dropping some pounds here pretty quick with all the H2O I'm going through with this new vape thing.

I hit the 36mg stuff a lot with no problems. My particular PV so far is notorious for a muted TH (the vets back this one up) so I felt that I kind of had to compensate for that. Trying to only hit the THREE SIX in the morning and late at night before bed.

I now have 2 V4L kits, both the XL type, but...don't buy the auto batteries. I just got the manual ones, and they perform much better, quite close to the USB pass through accessory. If you do this, research it. Either the Bloog or V4L XL manual starter kit is a good choice. Then get a variety of of extra cartrdiges, different flavors and different strengths, 18mg, 24mg etc. Keep smoking until you find your personal "sweet spot". This is NOT a one size fits all. You will know when you have found the right combination of personal vaporizer, strength and flavor. You won't hit it on your first try. This thread will help you find it sooner tho, and save some money avoiding mistakes along the way.

I now have 2 V4L kits, both the XL type, but...don't buy the auto batteries. I just got the manual ones, and they perform much better, quite close to the USB pass through accessory.

That's it....I'm gonna order a manual battery next week when I order juice. I gotta try one for myself...After this, and a Bloog battery, I'm done buying accessories for a while....lol

Got my Maxx Fusion today and I'm impressed so far. I was a bit worried about it not replicating the real thing, but it does. The throat hit is perfect. I got the 16mg cartos, and for my taste they are a bit strong, but like I said previously I'm a fairly light smoker, not like some of you fiends.

I'm going to use it over the next few days in my normal smoking routine. If it still works this well after that, I may be done with real cigs for good. Thanks to everyone here who turned me on to this.

The eGo-T. I've been using it for a week now. It's still a relatively new product and with that comes quite a few complaints. The consensus about it over at the ECF forums and the 170+ thread about the system (I haven't used every product on the market like those cats have):

1. Too "cool" of a vape.

2. Muted flavors and throat hit.

3. It doesn't like darker or thicker juices...at all.

4. Since the tank you put the juice in is made out of plastic, sometimes you get a plastic taste.

5. Atomizers don't wick properly at times.

6. Atomizer design is prone to flooding.

7. Tank doesn't hold enough juice (you can get about 1ml in there)

8. You have to clean the atomizers far too often

9. Atomizers are too expensive (thinking they run about $15 a pop)

That said, this thing is still awesome, but I'm gonna have to sit back for a bit and let it evolve. It's basically a three-piece system: the tank for the juice, the atomizer, and the battery. The battery screws into a cone-shaped atomizer. At the bottom of the atomizer, there's a piercing needle there that the bottom of the tank gets pushed onto. Inside of that needle is the wicking material. In theory, it's meant to be the same as dropping juice directly onto an atomizer (I know yall hear people talking about the wonders of dripping). But it's just not there yet. There's talks of revisions being made to the atomizer and tanks (they've already released a second version of the atomizer, which is what I have) but that is in the works right now. Stainless steel tanks, 3ml tanks, LR atomizers, complete overhaul of the atomizer, etc, etc. I'm willing to stick it out with the eGo but in the meantime I'm gonna move to something else that doesn't dictate what I put in there.

Some of the positives:

1. Super convenient

2. Easy to refill tanks

3. Batteries are massive (I've got a 650mAh and 1000mAh. I only take the 1000 with me when I head out to school everyday)

4. It's a manual and that allows you to play around and find your perfect hit.

5. Same manual button acts as a battery killswitch if you press it five times.

6. The tanks are cheap, and they can essentially last a really, really long time. No filler material in there. Just the plastic and your juice.

7. It has a huge community that's constantly finding solutions to make it work better (an easy mod to the tank surfaced today. Got about a 25% jump in production from it.

8. It consistently produces a ton of vapor (though I value TH and flavor above that).

So I definitely recommend it despite all the knocks on it. It's only going to get better, and when it does, I'll be grinning like a possum eating a sweet potato.

Earlier today I ordered a Go-Go(Yes, sounds fairy-like) and I'm hoping it'll be here by Saturday. A few people have been saying that their 3ml-holding cartomizers are similar to those of the Bloog MaxxFusion. Don't know about all of that, but I do know it's getting some pretty stellar reviews. What drew me to it was the large battery and the cartos that can hold 3ml of juice. That's all I need. I also ordered some of the low resistance cartos in addition to the stock ones. Looking forward to it.

Me too! It's only $17.50 for a battery so might as well test it myself. Wish they had a promo going right now but guess I'm spoiled since they had 2 sales last weekend alone. Has anyone seen any reports on the ECF forum on autos vs. manual in terms of cart life? If you aren't needing a primer puff with manual doesn't it mean it's always heating when turned on? I'd think that would make a difference constantly heating during a 6-8 puff 10 minute duration, vs. heating only during 6-8 inhales (40 seconds) with an automatic.

I don't know the answer to that one Jim, but I did start a thread in the V4L forum today, titled "V4L comments from a newbie 8 days in", my screen name is NoMatches. There is some discussion in there about the V4L auto vs manual XL's. Seems I am not alone in my preference for the mauals. One thing I have already decided.... NEVER buy a brand newly designed PV. Wait for them to get the kinks out. Even when the prototypes work great, production problems will still creep up. They need to get through at least 3 production runs and then get the field reports back on them. Cignots has a new mod, the Infinity, looks sweet, but they had some early issues. That's why I ordered their Buzz model. Bigger, clunkier, but it's been out for a year or more. These guys are often either very small shops or even one man bands. They can get designs into production fast, but usually need some time to get things running smoothly in terms of defects. Don't forget to use the standard 10% discount code at V4L. SMILIN. I tried syringe filling tonight, and I AM A FAN. Easiest, fastest, cleanest refills so far.

Also, Im going to order a drip tip with the manual battery and give it a whirl. I like to top off my cartos a couple of times a day instead of changing out to a full one, and the DT would make it a lot easier/quicker...my only concern is is might make the whole unit a bit too long with the XL battery...

For those that dont know, A drip tip is like a black and mild tip that fits snugly into the carto without the rubber end piece...it supposedly improves vapor production and TH, and it also makes topping off easy because you dont need a little tool to remove the end rubber end cap...it pops off and on easily. Also, you *can* drip directly into the tip when using a manual battery without fear of shorting the battery because the manuals are sealed (unlike the autos, where the hole in the end goes all the way to the battery)...Some say dripping directly into it with these style batteries doesnt work great because the juice goes tends down the middle of the hole in the cartos, but you can angle the tip when you drip, so maybe it will work for topping off with 5-6 drops.

Will report findings when I get em and test drive em.

Ive read on the forums that with manuals, cartos dry up a bit faster, but its a tradeoff because youre getting bigger hits with more vapor. A lot of posts at V4L forum suggest that their manual batts are pretty close to the passthrough as far as getting killer hits. I will find out next week.

Good for you! What battery system did you get? Using a tobacco flavor? I was certain I'd never like any "other than tobacco" flavors, but man, this cafe mocha from V4L is really freakin tasty! I am beginning to see why so many that vape have an assortment of flavors on hand. Funny how as smokers it was ONE brand, one cigarette.

Nut, ya really think dripping is easier than just swapping the carto? The juice is pretty oily. I think I prefer just changing carts. I may go syringe at some point. Still using the condom method. I am waiting for the 808 mega carts to be back in stock. They hold twice the juice of regular 808 carts so I hear.

You guys will like the XL manual battery. It's not quite a PT, but it's a lot closer than the auto battery is. Last thing I'm worried about is if it burns more juice. Thing is it satisfies.

today, i shot steam through it via boiling water. it worked well for a while but then it was back to below average performance after a few hours. also read about soaking it for in rubbing alchohol/everclear for up to a week

I've read about people boiling them, but I use cartomizers, so the atty is built in. I refill my carts 2 or 3 times and throw them out. I always like the less owrk easier way out. Have you looked here?http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

Im a topper-offer as it is...I usually carry an extra loaded cart with me just in case I burn the cart Im using, but I always top off every couple of hours, so I think the drip tip might be good as long as it doesnt make my VP look like a drumstick. I have a 10ml bottle I got from halocigs, its perfect for taking my juice-du-jour with me and dripping/topping on the go, it drips nice small drops. Right now its full of a 50/50 mix of V4L's premium Cappuccino and RY4. A fresh hit from topping is always nice, as the cart is usually heated up already and the juice distributes and soaks in pretty quick, and I get smooth, warm vapor.Lookin forward to trying the manual. Ill probably order it next week.

So, you can fill them via drip tip, via dripping down the side, via condom fill, or via syringe with equal ease. You can see where Leaford is going with his Bloog designs, they're all about versatility and ease of use. A battery that works as a manual, auto, or passthrough. A carto you can fill 4 different ways and can't burn up, no matter how hard you try, etc.

It's taking some getting used to, and I still have a full pack of analogs with me, so I think I'm going to try and transition to just the bloog over the weekend.

Do me (yourself) one favor. Stick to the vapor only for a period of about 8 hours. Tell yourself the whole time that you'll be able to smoke another cigarette after this experience is done. Just "quit" smoking for 8 hours. Any time you have cravings, blast away on the Bloog.After 8 hours, smoke a cigarette and then see if you want to have another or prefer to go back to the vape.
