Electronic Cigarettes (1 Viewer)

Thanks to all who replied.I checked out vapor4life and the one roadkill mentioned and decided to go for the vapor4life one due to the 27% off special. I got the 69.99 starter kit and ordered two more cartridges to go along with it, so all together I got 3 cartridges because of the free one sent with my starter kit. i think that should be enough for a little while. I read 1 cartridge is equal to 15-20 cigarettes, don't know if that's true but that's how I determined how many to order. I got a coffee flavor, tobacco flavor and fruity sample pack. It came out to 85+ dollars I think but after the discount down to $72 with shipping. Here is the first step to cigarette free living. I will update my progress in this thread and hopefully it will have a positive outcome. Now I'm off to have a smoke....Again thanks for the replies
 Good luck. It's helped a bunch of us.

Keep us posted. So many of us quit smoking in February that this thread has waned... now ecigging is just a part of my normal schedule and I was around cigarette smokers frequently over the summer with no envy whatsoever. Coffee was a great choice.... if you like it then try the coffee sampler. One of my faves. Fake tobacco blends... not so much, but everyone has different tastes. I like a strong throat hit to replicate smoking, and my current rotation is:Premium Bananas Foster 18 mgPremium Choco Banana 18 mgWOW Coffee 18 mgPremium Vanilla Mocha Frappe 18 mgPremium Irish Cream 24 mgPremium Cafe Mocha 24 mg

Yes that's what I want...a strong throat hit so I can feel it. After reading the first few pages of this thread it seems a lot of people swear by these things. Makes me wanna go down to the local 7-11 to see what all the hype is about. I'm going to keep my expectations in check though until I try them. Didn't know what flavors to get so i just picked the ones with the highest ratings, except for the fruity one. I don't know which ones I would like so I just chose a variety, but those banana ones you mentioned sound good. I got 24mg on all of them

Do not make the mistake of buying retail OTC, particularly the gas station variety. I've spoken with several people who have struck up a conversation after seeing my e-cig who said they tried the gas station type, and they just don't do the job. Additionally, the mall kiosks will rob you blind. Stick to the web. My favorites are cafe mocha (but I think V4L discontinued it), chocolate banana, and dark chocolate/raspberry.

I just got a manual batt from Bloog along with 2 5-packs of RY4. I was going to get blanks but for a buck more I figured I'd try it. Very underwhelmed by this flavor. Bloog only offers a few flavors so that's not their forte anyway. Also the battery doesn't seem to last that long. I'm a little disappointed in that as well. Think I may head back over to v4l for my batts and flavored cartos.

Don;t go to a 7-11 for an el cheapo version of this technology. It's like anything else; you get what you pay for and you should expect to get $7.99 worth of technology at 7-11. There were a couple guys who posted that a 7-11 experience almost turned them off the technology off the bat. You'll be happy with the V4L kit. Just some added comments:1. Trying variety of flavors off the bat is a great idea, which I always recommend. Everyone is different and I found I like flavors I'd have never tried without experimenting. I've found most fruits have weaker throat hits although I have a friend who swears by grape. I was turned onto Banana flavors by a few who said they have enhanced throat hit, and I've found that to be very true. Coffee 18 mg is far and away the strongest throat hit @ 18 mg in my experience. 2. I don't know what nic level you ordered, hopefully a mix of 18-24 like Tecumsah suggested. Throat hit has a direct correlation to nic level, and I was disappointed by the 18 mg tobacco variety I got with my 1st kit - like yourself a 3/4 PAD camel lights smoker. Once I tried 24 mg, that throat hit convinced me Ecig could easily replace cigs, and in fact was too strong. I actually came back to the 18 mg as my daily vape, just in flavors that deliver better throat hit than the tobaccos (only Hilton was strong enough for me). 3. With your starter kit you will get the 2 batteries and a USB pass through (essentially looks like a battery but plugs into USB). The batteries are 3.7V and the pass through is 5V, so pass through is noticeably stronger. However, the trade off for that oomph is I've found it burns out cartomizers a lot faster. If you got WOW cartomizers, those burn hotter than premium/cool carts, and will burn out even faster yet. So definitely try the 5V pass through and enjoy the power, but understand it will be bad value to use it a lot when you are stil buying prefilled carts @ 5/$10 - burning through them in 2 hours. Once you start buying the much much cheaper 30-60 ml juice and filling/topping off your own carts, it's a lot better for the higher voltage pass through.4. YouTube is packed with vids on ecigging and related tips. Seeing something on video was a lot easier for me than reading message board descriptions which use technical terminology. If you want to learn how to fill cartomizers with juice, you might go to youtube and see someone walk you through it visually. Things are a lot easier than the terminology suggests.

I agree with Big Jim about the youtube vids. I'm a visual guy and it helped me understand wtf people were trying to explain/describe here. Ah, we were so young.

BTW isn't this an awful webpage for the store "just vape" I mentioned a few days ago? My link

Who the hell designed that? It looks like a cigarette store.

High Nicotine will give you a good throat hit, but so does high voltage. If you do decide to lower your nicotine I would suggest getting a high voltage or variable voltage device. The bloog and V4l batteries are only around 3.2 volts, I really prefer to be around 5.3 volts now. I haven't touched my bloog and V4L batteries since I got a mod.

Also, just saw Reomods is going to come out with a variable voltage device that uses the switch in the buzz pro from notcigs.

want to quit smoking and have been looking into these e-cigs you guys speak of. I have read the last few pages of the thread and I am totally lost. There is chargers, atomizers, batteries, liquids and other various parts I have no clue about. Can someone maybe point me in the right direction for a good "starter kit", good brands and brands to stay away from, maybe a few tips from you seasoned e-cig users I should be aware of. I smoke marlboro lights...about 1/2-3/4 pack a day. I quit about 1 year ago for 2.5 months and had 1 puff of a cig while drinking with my buddies and it was quickly back to square 1. Worst decision of my life to pick up a smoke and its time I do something about it. Any info to help me get started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I think the easiest gateway is the starter kit from www.vapor4life.com. Grab the Ultimate Starter Kit for $70, or the Ultimate Ultimatum for $100, and then add some custom flavored cartridges. I would recommend starting out at either 24mg or 18mg.Personally, I use the auto batteries, but I know many here prefer the manual.

You'll want 1-2 cartridges per day (at least I do, but I vape continuously).

That's the easiest way to get started, and while you make the transition, read through this whole thread (it's worth the time), and also check out the e-cig forum for tons more info.

Eventually you'll want to buy juice and blank carts. There are several places to buy juice, including v4l, but for blank carts I would recommend Bloog.
Same as I've been telling folks despite the fact that it's not my system--I've had four ask in the past three weeks. I think from Dawg's description of his habit though that I wouldn't go with 24's and maybe not even 18's. I smoked double what he said and gave away my 24's in the first three weeks to a heavier smoker. Kept one of the 18's for use and gave the rest of those away to her as well. 11's became my base, though with different flavors I have rotated between the 18, 11, 6, and 0 for the past three months.ETA--I do like the manuals--really only tried auto a couple times.

NO NO NO!!!! :eek:lol. My favorite battery was a passthru until it fell into the pool--but I used it for low resistance and regular atomizers and NEVER with the computer. You can find an adaptor which fits into a car outlet and charge them up/vape 'em while driving; that charge will easily last until the next time you're in the car. Dunno about the minis--but with the regular batts it was fantastic!  disclaimer of sorts: I don't live on a computer at work, and commute 30 minutes each way.

:kicksrock: I got all 24mg. oh well I'll figure it out soon enough

Not an issue Dawg--that's the safe way to go. You want it to satisfy right off the bat, then decide.

I probably should give a disclaimer every time I comment because I think I use a different system than anyone else here--I got into these with eGo-t tanks instead of cartomizers, and it probably makes a difference in flavor and hit. I found that the 24mg V4L juices gave me too much throat hit in the tank system, and my favorite liquids are a PG/VG mix from TheVaporPro whether I use a cartridge or tank. Particularly like the coffees and the caramels, so I'm more going for the richer flavor and at this point the nic strength is mostly moot (just about 6 months)

Hadn't linked to the site above and just saw a new flavor--English Toffee!! :excited:

Might just have to order one...more...time....

Yeah, I was typing too fast. What I meant was without buying additional supplies you need to use USB on the computer. I bought a USB cig lighter port from V4L for my car and use it frequently. I can't desribe the feeling of blasting away in a car with windows closed on a nice snowy day. With cigs, I'd have a window ajar, still stink up the car and myself, and then need to dispose a butt. I think my buddy uses a car phone charger that has a USB port. Highly recommended. Other than the recent post about someone having a work computer failure, I have not heard anyone having a failure with normal resistance cartomizers using USB. Just low resitence is a no no (knocks on wood). Final note: I'm glad the summer is almost over. In the past 6 weeks I lost 2 batteries in loose shorts where I have no idea where/when they fell out of the pocket. Lost a 3rd brand spanking battery when I walked into the lake with it in my swim trunks. Stupidly, I tried using it immediately and was shocked it worked for a couple vapes, but then went dead with several prolonged blinks of the light. Should have let it dry out completely.

I think this is fine, and actually I would have suggested getting at least 1 pack of 24's. I smoked lights and while I now prefer 18's, I absolutely needed to try 24's to become convinced it was strong enough to replace the throat hit of a cig. Starting too strong is far better IMHO than starting off on 11's and giving up due to lame first impression. Particularly with a fruit sampler and some of the weaker tobacco blends in the tobacco sampler, you'll be glad you went 24... and coffee should blow you away at 24. Honestly, if you try a coffee 24 I promise you will not even feel the throat hit of a cigarette for the next 4 hours.

Haven't read the thread in months so excuse me, but is there anyone here that's given up on this stuff? Or are you all still blasting away? Thanks.

One other positive- went to the dentist a couple weeks ago, and the hygienist didn't have to spend 10 minutes scrapes the tobacco stains out from behind my bottom teeth. I was in and out in 20 minutes, including x-rays, cleaning, and exam.

I just went more than a week without a puff (and this was on vacation and I had it with me) although I like to know I have it on hand when needed. This whole summer I went to a ton of ball games and spent a lot of time in an area where people were smoking. Never wanted a puff of a cig and only had my ecigs on a few occasions.

:goodposting: Same exact experience.

Well starter kit arrived and have been experimenting with it ever since. Didn't know what to expect at first but after taking my first drag I'm pleasantly surprised. I have a menthol cart on there right now, started with coffee (they sent me 3 free random flavors) and at first it was a little harsh but I'm starting to get used to it. Haven't had a real cig in about 6 hrs. so thats a good start. Must say so far I give this a big

Just a couple quick questions. I have the regular size battery (not the shortyy or the xl), so how long should I expect it to last before re-charge? I'm assuming the LED light on the tip will not light to show it's dead/dying. Do the batteries go dead even when you're not using it, or only when in use? I've been puffing on this thing non-stop and to be totally honest I think I may have already finished off the coffee cart :hophead: at this pace I don't know if it will be that cost-effective so I think I may have to slow it down a bit. It's not because I'm not getting enough nicotine but because I'm..... uh....I guess enjoying it more than the real thing

I don't know if the batteries lose charge thru disuse, but when you take a hit on a dead battery the LED light will flash several times.Buying pre-filled carts is going to be less cost effective than filling your own. I vape constantly, seriously constantly, and I spend about $25-$50 per month. That's less than I'd be spending on cigs in 1-2 weeks.

Like I said before, I assumed Coffee 24 would be really strong, but I'm glad you ordered some 24's out of the gates to see this ain't no dainty device, which I think is a common misconception when people think of smoke being replaced by water vapor. It can deliver whatever punch you want/need for a particular smoking habit. I still vape 24 mg in certain flavors that are a touch weak for me @ 18 mg (Cafe Mocha/Irish Cream) but as a general daily vape I use 18's. A good buddy of mine started out 2 months ago on 18/24 and he told me yesterday he now uses 11's exclusively. Said the throat gets acclimated to lower nic/TH pretty quickly and now the throat hit of 11's feel like 18's used to feel for him. On the regular batteries, I don't know the answer on performance. I went with XLs because my simple brain assumes larger battery means a bit more power and longer charge. You can always try an XL as you can order them individually and they would work with the same charger.

On cost, you may not see cost savings until you take it to the next step of buying juice and filling/refilling your own cartomizers. Trick is to spend a bit more in the short term to find some flavors you like enough to buy quantity of. Someone can correct me here but I would guess a 30 ml bottle of juice refills around 75-100 cartomizers and costs just $10-$12. So basically 75-100 carts for the same cost as 5 prefilleds. Here's

.

Here's

Thanks for the tips. My next purchase will be an xl battery or two since I've had to re-charge both batteries two times each, and some blank cartomizers and a bottle or two of juice Been switching out vaping on different cartomizers to see which ones I like. So far the basic coffee is my favorite and the menthol surprisingly wasn't to bad either. Not a fan of the cappuccino flavor. I thought I ordered some fruit flavor samplers but apparently I got the regular cool cartridges which I think are just regular tobacco flavor. Almost one day free from smoking real cigs and it really couldn't of been easier, it really is amazing

On blank carts, I was turned onto bloog brand cartomizer blanks by others in this thread and I'm a big fan. They are compatible with the V4L batteries. The V4L cartomizers tend to get stuffy (i.e tough to pull air through) after 3-4 refills, and I've refilled the 2 Bloog cartomizers I currently use around 20+ times each with little or no difference in performance. I like the V4L flavors and still get whatever prefilleds and juice through them, but will probably be purchasing blanks from Bloog go-forward. They are the same cost except they have less frequent sales to take advantage of.

Isn't it? Like several others I'm over 7 months in. It has been the easiest transition imaginable. I've tried every way known to man, except Chantix which scared me a little, and this hands down is the way to go, at least for me. I'm down now to 0 nicotine, and while it has been a little tough, it's totally manageable. I'm hoping in the next 2 to 3 months to be off vaping completely. Even now, I get through the day with 1 cart and 1 battery. I have to drive 50+ miles to work each way and vape in the office whenever I want, so I think that's saying something about the decreasing use of the things. Good luck on your journey and there is a lot of support and information here and elsewhere to help if you need it.

Love V4L but not a big fan of the auto-substitution, particularly with nic levels. V4L substituted 36 mg cartomizers for a 24 mg cartomizer order that was out of stock. Just seems like an odd practice to auto-sub with that 36 nic level with a mailed note, particularly since they have my email address. I've tried 36 and just can't use something that strong. Should I feel guilty asking for an exchange on a $9.95 item?
Jim, I didn't read responses to your post so I don't know if you ended up asking for an exchange, but I wouldn't hesitate at all, you know how awesome their customer service is. I bet they wouldn't even ask you to send the 36mg juice back. Also, congrats Steevie G! Amazing accomplishment. Myself, I'm still using the V4L batts, carts and juice...but I toss my cartridges after about 3 days of use. I just can't replicate a fresh new cart filled with juice, so I order 2 packs of carts and 2 juices a month (30ml). Every other month I might get a new battery, I'm pretty hard on em...still wayyyy cheaper than cigs tho. :)

Good call. They were great as always and in fact told me not to return the sub. I just felt a little petty asking them to reship 1 pack with all the good stuff I've received. Oh well, I'll make it up to them in future purchases (uh, on sale at 25%+ off). I'm with you on cartomizers generally getting chucked after 3 days. Cafe Mocha carts seem to be an exception as I'll refill 10, 15, 20 times and cartomizers seem to handle it fine. But I've found Bananas Foster, Capuccino and Chocolate Bananas to be cartomizer killers. For now they get chucked quick - but planning to test them vs. Bloog next week. BTW the buddy I mentioned being at 11 mg said he's having a lot of success cleaning V4L carts with a turkey baster and he somehow spins the water out using a length of string tied to the end of the cartomizer. Says it is quick and carts are dry enough to use immediately after cleaning. Still sounds like too much effort to me.

I tried filling a blank cartomizer but I am getting a little burnt taste like when the pre-filled start running low. Do I need to let it soak in for a while? Should I buy a syringe?

Do you drip from the top? I suppose syringe can't hurt but I always use condom method (linked in my post 2029). It's foolproof way to get the entire cart drenched since it fills from the bottom. Just be sure to wipe down the bottom/inside of the cart that connects to the battery since any uncleaned juice can gunk up the battery connection.

I fill exclusively from the top...never been a fan of the condom method.

I stopped in to the "Just Vape" store in my town. Just a guy sitting on a couch with his ecig. Very sparse store. All he sells are cig-like batteries. No mods. And he has very limited juice. He basically has what all of us started out with. He was surprised when I told him how much I buy batteries for (around 15 bucks) because that's what he sells them for and he thought everyone was a lot higher (think kiosk in the mall). He was trying to inform me about different juices and "throat hit". I already knew it all. Nice guy. Really passionate about the whole thing. Like us he quit by using these. But I think he needs to have a sort of a head-shop sort of store where you can get a bunch of cool, different things, not the same exact thing you could get at Bloog for the same price. BTW, his web-site is a very temporary one he told me. Said the new one will be up in a couple of weeks. I wish him luck. There are a few bars around there so he knows he needs to stay open at night to get the outdoor-smoking-had-a-few-drinks-in-them crowd to come and take a look.

Maybe its just the wow coffee flavor that i get a hint of burnt flavor from the cotton or whatever looks soaked.

I can't imagine any easier way than filling from the top. The burnt taste when refilling may be from running the cart too dry before refilling. I've never gotten the difficulty in refilling carts or needing to make a mess. My wife and I both just pop the tip off the cart(usually don't even bother to remove it from the battery) and drip 10-12 drops of juice in. If I think that I completely burned it dry I will give it a few minutes to soak in, but most of the time I go immediately back to vaping.

I second the motion on the Bloog blank carts. I tried using the V4Ls for awhile too, and they always have a sale, but my wife and I both have settled on Bloog. The only downfall I've had with them is the tips come off so easy. My beagle loves chewing on them. When ever you throw away your old carts, save the tip.

Thats how I do it, and it works just fine for me :hifive:

That never really worked for me... had to top off too frequently than the total drench I get doing condom method.

Day #4 of not smoking. Been a real breeze so far. I had read reviews online about e-cigs but it's hard to believe when you don't know who the heck these reviewers are. I'm grateful I ran across this thread or I probably wouldn't have given these a chance. Just ordered some blank carts, some juice and a fruit sampler pack. I'm still trying to find flavors I like but so far I tend to enjoy the sweet flavors. These WOW coffee carts start to taste real nasty after a bit. It seems they last about 1/2 the time than other carts. I don't think they are too dry since the vapor is still thick but it's tastes pretty bad where I just throw them out. BigJim, a couple of posts back you had a coupon code. It's probably expired by now but I'm curious on where you get these, and how often do they come out?

I think when you order from V4L, you should wind up on their regular mail list and should receive constant sale emails (2-3 a week, almost always sales running). If you don't get email, contact their website to get on the list and I'm sure they will add you asap. Another thing you should try is signing up for the V4L Family program. Every couple weeks they send even better sales to this list, usually 3%-5% better than the running sale. They were only taking limited enrollments but the link appears to still be active to sign up: http://vapor4life.us1.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=827fee19e1072da6c0c866840&id=6927c2149d'>V4L Family Enrollment

Hey everyone. I've read through ECF and wonder if anyone has a more definitive answer to this. I'm now at 0 nicotine for a little while, but the lack of throat hit is really bothering me. I've read that high alcohol vodka or pure grain alcohol can help, as can menthol juice.

Have any of you tried any of these or anything else that helps increase throat hit? At 0 nicotine I'm getting 0 throat hit. I expected that, but I didn't expect my reaction to it to be so negative.

Any help is highly appreciated.

I'm in the same position at 0-nic except that I'm ok with a lighter throat hit. Now using a VG/PG blend from theVaporPro I've found that the flavors can make a big difference, as I'm good with Cappacino, and Carmel, but not so much with Dulce de Leche at that strength; some have enough of the right kind of flavor to compensate. More what you're asking for I think: I did try several blends from Vapor4Life--but found them to have more throat hit than I like, and actually was sore after a couple weeks before giving those juices to a friend. I believe that they are more PG and less VG, and that might make the difference you're looking for.

I've done some DIY and have had a lot of problems with throat hit. I've tried using vodka and everclear and it really only made the juice gross. Menthol gave it a better hit. I think my issue was the nicotine I was using was very weak. There are some venders that have a special throat hit additive. The Vapor Pro has something called throat hit plus. Totally wicked has a pepper extract called Diablo loco that promises a strong throat hit. I've never tried them.

Thanks for the help. I'm ordering some of the Throat Hit Plus from Vapor Pro. I've never dealt with them. Anybody have any experieces - good, bad, or otherwise - with them? Their juice prices seem reasonable and the Throat Hit stuff, if it works, seems like a steal at $2.69 for a bottle. I'm getting 2 of them and 2 30ml of RY4 0 nic.

Vapor4Life (v4l.com) is having a sale of 32% off everything for Halloween. Unfortunately, the sale is a quick one...
