Yeah, I've been very disappointed. I guess there's too many cooks in Jax, while Williams, not Wilford, has been the guy to take a leap forward.

He was never all that good to begin with. Good timing happened.

We see guys like this every year... have a good year, never duplicate it, get held on to for far too long by wishful FF owners.

He was a sell-high candidate if I ever saw one.

It's always easy to say that, "after the fact".Unless, of course you called the "sell-high" while he was peaking last season.

Wilford will always be more valuable in real football than in fantasy. I see him as a Bobby Engram type, but with more size obviously.

But yeah, this year Reggie Williams has taken the red-zone role.

Last year he had 41 catches for 681 yards. This year he's on pace for 45 catches and 600 yards, very similar numbers. If you expected him to repeat the 7 TD with just 40-50 cacthes I can understand the surprise, but I have no idea why anyone would have expected him to put up those kinds of numbers. He's a big slow WR that will fight for every ball and runs decent routes. He was never the star in the making in Jacksonville. Sure a couple TDs would be nice at this point, but if you expected anymore from him than his current numbers and 2-3 more TD I don't know what you based that on.

Because he seemed to develop a rapport with Leftwich, esp. around the goalline. Then, when M. Lewis got hurt and missed a bunch of time, you could pretty much figure that he wouldn't factor into the passing game a lot this season (rookie TEs struggle anyway)--leaving those redzone opportunities available. The development of Reggie Williams was the wildcard here. Never saw that one coming.

True enough. And rereading my post I might have been a bit hard on Wilford. Wilford is a good redzone target, but the trouble is so are R. Williams, Matt Jones, Wrightster, and now Mo Drew. In the off season threads I predicted that M. Lewis would steal a lot of Wilford's targets from last season. Well Lewis got hurt, but Wrightster has been playing that roll very well with 17 catches and a TD. Wilford will have better days, but Jacksonville is a team with plenty of big targets, so Wilford's skill set doesn't stand out as much.

also, it seems that the Jags are running more and throwing less in the red zone. Just an observation, no link to give.

If Jones-Drew turns into the goalline guy, and last week's results indicate that that may very well be the case--what a steal for any team that drafted him. He could end up being the #1 rookie RB by the end of the season in TD-heavy leagues.ETA: Just went and looked. Jones-Drew is the #1 rookie RB in our league, and the #8 RB overall (TD-heavy league).

My impression was that Wilford did most of his best work

last year when David Gerrard(sp?) was subbing for Leftwich.

When Leftwich came back Wilford's numbers were pretty pedestrian,

although not as dismal as this year

Leftwich threw Wilford 5 of his 7 TDs and well over half his cacthes.
