Hey Merriam-Webster, if you’re going to call someone an idiot, then you should at least make sure that you only use words in your rant that you actually know how to use and how to spell. The word 
jist is actually an acronym meaning

gist. I can see how you were confused since 
gist does have the phonetic pronunciation of 
(j ist) (you'll have to imagine the suprasegmental diacritic symbol that represents 
extra-short above the i in the phonetic spelling...this board does not support the use of this symbol)
The irony is that the word gist comes from the Anglo-Norman word 
gesir, which means to lie. In other words, taken literally, the 
gist of your argument is one big lie.
