Why did the chargers put him on the roster exempt list and hence a three game suspension if they had any thoughts of trading him? Seems like a spiteful move.

Locals - what can you tell us about Hacksaw?

Reliable? Guy that is always throwing out stuff hoping some sticks?

I don't know much about him, I don't remember what had me following him on twitter to begin with. My gut told me he was reliable, besides the fact his name is HACKSAW.

He's not reliable at all and is pretty much a joke. Jim Rome, Petros Papadakis and Matt "Money" Smith make fun of him on a daily basis: "I want to hear from YOU, Escondido!", "REACT TO ME!!", "Chime in all you ladies on the ladies line" (note: there is no ladies line), and "Show me your lightning bolt!".He's the guy Rome refers to as the "Butterknife."He was run out of the L.A. market.

I don't know how this will turn out, but for what it's worth, Hacksaw is generally not considered a reliable source at all. Most of what he says about the Chargers is BS, and he is frequently derided for his inaccuracies on Chargers message boards.

I would wait until Kevin Acee tweets something about it before getting too excited.

heh, I (and apparently 90 other people) were watching this thread pretty closely. Good to have a few people chime in about the reliability of the source.

Sorry everyone, I just didn't know anything about him and got excited.

Hope it still goes through if he gets his suspension does get reduced!

For what it's worth

John Czarnecki-Fox...with Hacksaw...Vikings are to offer high pick if VJ wins grievance on Thurs ..Thinks StL will renter talks too.

less than a minute ago via web

Czarnecki-Biggest issue however is how much guaranteed upfront VJ gets...clubs not willing to guarantee all 30M now as part of 5Y-50M deal

Be interesting if it did happen and Rice makes it back around week 8. What happens to Harvin? People loved him but there's not enough balls for everyone.

PFT is running a similar story . . .

Vincent Jackson's primary suitor looks to be the Vikings

Posted by Mike Florio on September 11, 2010 4:39 PM ET

In five days, a hearing will be held in New York to determine whether Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson will miss six games or three games if is traded during his three-game suspension for violation of the substance-abuse policy. The NFL believes he should; the NFLPA believes he shouldn't.

Either way, word is spreading that the Vikings are the team that hopes to swing a deal for Jackson, if the ultimate absence is only three games.

Last Saturday, an unnamed franchise worked out a one-year deal with Jackson's agents, who then could not work out a trade with the Chargers. That team has not been identified. On Friday, our pal Henry Lake of KFAN in Minneapolis said via Twitter that the Vikings are making a play for Jackson. Though all concerned persons and entities are keeping quiet on this one, we've done some digging and we believe that Lake is right -- and that the Vikings are the team that nearly traded for Jackson last week.

Based on the Vikings' performance on offense against the Saints on Thursday night, the Vikings surely could use him.

No offense but I would consider it a badge of honor to have Rome make fun of me. Rome is the biggest ##### in the business and thats pretty much indisputable. Okay chris er Jim.

Definitely nothing to apologize for. It's great having stuff reach the Shark Pool so quickly, even if it's just a rumor. :lmao:And this one might even turn out to be true — although going by Hacksaw's history, if it does turn out to be true, it is more likely that Hacksaw read the PFT blurb that was posted a few days ago rather than getting any legit inside info himself.

Acee commented on this in his mailbag (I think that's where I saw it), saying that he'd been trying to confirm this rumor for a couple weeks and couldn't, but he thought it passed the smell test in terms of making sense.

Exactly what Maurile said. I'm fine with rumors being talked about as long as you give a source like you did and it's clear that it's just talk. Always post stuff like that (and this).J

Theres gotta be something that happens too rare for a player of VJax's caliber to sit the entire year.
Something might happen, for sure. It makes sense. But the reason it's so rare to sit out a whole year is that, normally, a player cannot make any progress toward becoming an unrestricted free agent by sitting out. This is an extremely rare case where VJ might be able to become an unrestricted free agent by sitting out.

I'll confirm Maurile and GDogg's takes, Hacksaw is not a reliable source. Again, doesn't mean it's wrong, but he's probably the least credible of the mainstream talking heads on the Chargers flagship station.

As a Charger fan I hope he's right and VJax is on the move, but I wouldn't cut/trade anyone of significance until the rumor/news is confirmed by a more reliable source.

I have the Mighty 1090 on right now - if I hear anything more I'll post it in the Shark Pool first.

Trying to get a jump start with this news. In only one league is Jackson available. I have, Berrian, Colston, Cothchery, Gaffney and Welker. I would have to drop one of these WR to gamble on Jackson now. Is it worth the gamble? If so who should I drop? Consider the fact that if the gamble doesnt work then I lose one of these WR to someon else the following week. Thanks in advance
If you're in my league please drop Welker and Colston immediately for JVAX. :bs: Min seems like they want to win sooner rather than later (window on 'the Legend' is closing) so I could see this happening as they didn't look great passing vs NO... and they'd mortage the future to succeed this year... Cotchery is NYJ's best receiver, but if you think this will happen I'd take VJax..

Hacksaw was on the radio when I lived in SoCal but he got very bitter when the SD Chargers sort of sent him on his way.

Hamilton was the play-by-play announcer for the Chargers on radio from 1986 to 1997. Hacksaw went on an on-air tirade during his last game as Chargers' announcer.

if czarnecki agrees with it that probably confirms the guy made it up.

Hacksaw used to be the play-by-play man for SD . . . and for Minny too for a short while afterward. He's been on the outs with the ownership for a number of years now and is essentially a local sports radio personality who doesn't even have his own show anymore. He may have a source, he may not. I doubt he's lying, but maybe he's wrong or doesn't have a good enough source. :goodposting:

They make fun of him for his bombastic style, and in Rome's case because he interned for the radio station that Hamilton was with when he was a "boss jock" 20+ years ago, and Hacksaw had an inflated ego and was a #### to him (and everyone else). That's not the same thing as him having failed to come across a nice nugget of information.

Hacksaw has his own show. He's on every afternoon.ETA: I know b/c I've called in a couple of times when sitting in traffic on the 5 on the way home from work and broken him off. If you ever hear "tommy from OB", it's me.

Ah, that didn't used to be the case. He must have gotten another one. He didn't for a while. I don't listen to sports radio as much as I used to.

IIRC, Rice is a UFA after this season, so I think a VJax trade would affect him more than Harvin. Minny could trade for VJax and then, at the end of the season, choose to keep Rice or Jackson to pair with Harvin in the long term, letting the other one walk.

The point wasn't that Rome makes fun of him. The point is that he's entirely unreliable in SoCal circles. Rome making fun of him was to make it hit home for those outside of SoCal about who he is. Rome's takes on him are pretty well known, but Rome doesn't actually use the name Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton.

Hacksaw gets a bad rap sometimes. I don't think Rome's shtick on Hacksaw has anything to do with his reporting. Hacksaw and Rome frequently butted heads back in their days with The Mighty 690 here in SD. At this point it is kind of flattering.Petros and Money jumped on that wagon because Hacksaw is a good foil for them and, again, most of their shtick is due to the fact that 'Saw hasn't changed his look since the 70s and his style is easy to mock (if you heard him you would understand).

The thing I love about 'Saw is that he talks sports on his sports show. There is no pandering to the lowest common denominator, no H-U-G-E call of the day or smack off, no movie face offs, no Vance Finance or Love Lines or any of the ridiculous filler shtick that Rome and Petros and Money need to fill their time because they simply can't talk about sports on the level of Hacksaw.

'Saw can talk intelligently about pretty much any sport in the country from NFL to MLS, from WTA to the America's Cup. 'Saw may not always be right on the stories he breaks but I am not sure I can think of another person who knows more all around sports knowledge than him.

 except for the fact that a gigantic, obvious toupee is by definition changing your look since the 70's.

Petros & money **** on those guys. It's the only sports talk show I can stand. They are pretty knowledgeable and don't try to BS you when they aren't. Also when sportstalk shows want to fill time they take a bunch of caller segments which imo is brutal to listen too. PMS take far less callers than Hacksaw or Rome. I haven't heard much bashing on their show aside from Joel Myers of course, and everything they do it it's hilarious.

Not if he has been rocking the same toupee since the 70s, which he has. Perhaps it was his original look back in the day but he kept it going with the rug.Love Hacksaw. I am inclined to be wary when he breaks a story because I don't think he really has the network of sources that he did back in the day but he drops sports knowledge all the time.
