I have a draft coming up this afternoon and I'll admit I have been busy lately and have not studied like I should have. I like fantasy baseball but I use it more for a distraction until fantasy football starts. It's a 5 hitting 5 pitching category head to head league. I know most of the big time players but if someone could help me with some sleepers or stud rookies to look out for I would appreciate it. Thanks

 
Just a few....

Garza, pitcher for the Twins.

Billy Butler, OF for the Royals, should be called up sometime in 2007.

Albert Pujols, 1B for the Cardinals, should have a really great year.

*****Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, Padres. He's had an awesome spring and will be batting 3rd or cleanup. He's going fairly late in drafts too. He could be the SOD.

 
Howie Kendrick and Alex Gordon could be had late in the draft.

Also Randy Wolf is in a nice situation to succeed this year

Adam Wainwright, P, StL. Moving from bullpen to starter. Been lights out in spring training.

Garrett Anderson, OF, LAA. Plagued by injuries the past couple of years. Finally healthy

Boof Bonser, P, Minn. Deep sleeper candidate here. Should draft him based on name alone

Jorge Julio, RP, Fla. Recently traded, becomes the closer. Might slip past some uniformed owners.

Anibal Sanchez, P, Fla. Pitched brillantly towards the end of last year but still rated low on Yahoo!

Willy Taveras, OF, Col. Moving to Colorado from Houston should help his numbers.

Rich Aurilia, SF. Moves into the full-time 1B in SF. Valuable because he is eligible for many positions.

Ryan Freel, OF, Cin. Oft-injured. If he can stay healthy, he could steal 50 bases. Also elligible for many positions raises his value.

John Patterson, SP, Washington. Coming back from injury-pplagued 2006. Pitched well in 2005. Somewhat limited because he pitches for Washington.

Interesting... just read an article today and two of these guys were on the list of "players to avoid".

Oliver Perez if you have the nerve

I also like Kelley Johnson, 2B, ATL batting 2nd

 
Troy Tulowitzki SS Col

He is the starting SS for the rockies and probably can be had very late

Jhonny Peralta SS Cleveland

Looking great this spring and poised for a big year

Ryan Madson- Will take over as the closer when Gordon's arm falls off

Jeff Baker- Will get more ABs as the season goes on especially if Helton gets traded.

Shane Victorino- Gets a chance to play full-time and could be a 20HR and 20SB guy

Corey Hart- like Victorino he gets he shot to play everyday and could produce 15+ HRs and SBs

Hunter Pence- If Burke continues to struggle Pence could get the call from AAA

Josh Hamilton(hi Cappy)- Griffey and Freel are injuries waiting to happen. The beneficiary is Hamilton.

Tony Pena- If Valverde struggles in Arizona, Pena becomes closer.

Ronny Paulino- He's pounding the ball this spring and should be one of the few catchers to hit near .300

There are more but those are a few that come to my head. The deep sleeper is Henry Owens. He will take over as closer in Florida when Julio meltsdown.

Also, Termel Sledge is still going cheap and late in drafts. He's a great value for as late as he's going and I've paid $8-9 in two auctions for him.

I wouldn't totally bank on that. Madson had a rough year last year. If Gordon went down, I think there would be a few different guys they would consider.....maybe even a guy like Lieber if he isn't traded by then.

Well...I'm banking on it and they officially moved Madson to the setup role which is more reason to think he can step in WHEN Gordon goes down.

I was coming in here to mention Wainwright.He is a very good pitcher and his stuff has been great this Spring. He probably will be considered a 4th starter but is most likely the Cards 3rd best starter and possibly even the second best behind Carpenter. The Cards will be giving run support and playing good defense behind him. I'm expecting somewhere around 13-16 wins for him and probably an ERA in the upper-3 range, which is very good numbers for a late round pickup.

Not sure what he meant by looking great....but Jhonny is in shape and fielding the ball very well from reports I see. If he was fielding like mid-year last season, the Tribe would have kept 2 INF on the bench and sent Garko to AAA, meaning his starting SS designation would be in jeopary.He's only hitting .283 this sping with 2 doubles and 0 HRs.

depending upon your depth you could stash P. Hughes - SP NYY for the 2nd half

I also like Igawa SP - NYY ( homer alert)

Nelson Cruz, OF, TEX

Morgan Ensberg, 3B, HOU (not a real sleeper - but dropped off last year and should rebound this year)

Hawksworth, STL (a real stretch - but good in a keeper league)

Clay Hensley, SD

and if you need middle relief guys -

Neshek, MIN

or

Soriano, ATL

I'm not sure I'd call Adrian Gonzalez a sleeper this year. He was a sleeper last year. Overbay isn't a sleeper either.

I'm not sure I'd call Adrian Gonzalez a sleeper this year. He was a sleeper last year. Overbay isn't a sleeper either.

I am thinking more in terms of auction leagues. Both of those guys are "sleepers" in terms of getting a lot of bang for a lot less buck than you would spend on any of the "elite" 1B.In my 20 team mixed league, everyone bids high dollars on elite players and it is guys like these that can be had "on the cheap" that make a dramatic impact on the roster.

Mike Maroth of the Tigers is a #5 starter coming off injury so you should get him cheap. Not only is he pitching well, but with Rogers on the DL, this lefty should get more starts than usual.

Durham only had 93 RBI last year...Plus before his steroid year, his career highs was 20 HR (the only other time over 20) and 75 RBI...

Durham only had 93 RBI last year...Plus before his steroid year, his career highs was 20 HR (the only other time over 20) and 75 RBI...

Josh Hamilton just came off waivers in Yahoo leagues today, after not being in their system.

He's a :trainwreck: waiting to happen, but could be gold.

As far as Peralta goes I meant he was in good shape, has a lot better attitude and is really working hard. In December he had LASIK to help his blurry vision.

Not necessarily stats.
