Sho Nuff, you are guilty of hypocracy here. You seem to be relying upon a 3rd party report as being gospel, and collapsing every iota of a 5 hour meeting into a single sentence. What makes you think Favre himself "does not seem to take any responsibility for" the distraction? It's a simple blurb noting that Favre acknowledged team distraction and seemed to regret that. Beyond that, I'll wait for him to speak for himself as to % degree of blame he feels is his. Again, I don't support Favre on this game he plays with retirement.
Gospel? What part of "he does not seem" makes it sound like I take it as gospel?

The part where he claims to only want to be given a chance to compete...then supposedly says he realizes that cannot work...that he does not want this big distraction (which it has already become) yet he shows up to family night? His whole PR campaign seemed to center around make as much of a distraction as possible to try and force the issue and get what he wants.

I used the word "seem" because I don't know for sure...kind of the point of that phrasing.

The two sides are expected to meet again in the morning as they try to work toward a solution palatable to both sides. However, one detail FOXSports.com gathered from the meeting was Favre's insistence that he did not want his presence to destroy the team's chemistry. In fact, Favre was adamant that he wanted to do what was in the best interest of the locker room and admitted this distraction was not what his teammates needed.

That crazy Favre, still trying to put himself in front of his teammates, not caring about his impact on team. Just worrying about his own selfish future.
So what exactly are you saying here? It's fairly obvious these quotes came from someone on Favre's side, and they seem to say that Favre recognizes there will be a distraction factor if he is here, but that is the result of him being "welcomed back" as some mindless ploy and not with any intent to actually welcome him to the team, participate in actual competition to be starter, etc. So what's his recourse... staying away? Do you seriously expect him to if he has changed his mind about retirement? Seems to me this quote is acknowledging a tough situation, that oh BTW, is largely of the Packer's own doing since they are inflexible re: a prior decision refusing his ability to play in GB. And don't get me wrong, I hate Favre; my record here is well established. He's a total prima donna drama queen... unfortunately one who happens to have a right to play ball in 2008.
He has a right to try and play ball...he has no right to any starting job or playing time.Sorry...
Is that a response to me? Care to elaborate? The poster I was responding to said that Favre was only putting himself before the team, being selfish by acknowledging a "team distraction", and I asked for a clarification on that comment, and what Favre's alternatives are if he wants to play. I don't believe I said anything about Favre having a "right to any starting job." Sorry...
I believe ook was being sarcastic given his stance on this issue so far.Im just saying...he has no real right to play ball. He has a right to be on a team I guess...but not right to actually play is what I am saying.
Why do you hate Favre so much?
:hey: What in all of what I have said shows I hate this guy?
it's not what you say....it's how you say it...it's the overall tone you have on the subject of Favre.....you may not even realize that you hate Favre so much......

If it's any indication from your diet since Favre retired, I think crow is still on the menu.

Thanks for staying away from those attacks and not "stooping to my level".I think you need some crow yourself given your quotes about Favre playing for Minny I pulled for you yesterday and your reactions about him now that it might be more possible that he is there.

GEEEEEEZ. This is pretty basic stuff SN. Don't respond to individual posters if you have a general observation to make. When you say "seems" I'm assuming we're talking about the same blurb I was discussing with Ookook. I was responding to Ookook's reaction to a single quote, and you decided to insert yourself into that, suggesting I was arguing that Favre has some "right to start for the Pack", which I never said. You are the confusion here. If you aren't dealing with a single quote that's being discussed, please address your unrelated observations in some other conversation, not responding to me. TIA

I did not suggest you were arguing that. I was pointing out that he simply has no right to start for GB...which, after all of this, is what he is trying to force or get released/traded.I responded to you because you made the comment that he has a right to play...it is not the truth...I explained why. Im sorry if you cannot handle being disagreed with on that point.

there is supposed to be a press conference in a couple of minutes - anybody with a link to the live conference?
"Favre told not to practice unless committed to Packers new direction at QB."No QB battle. Per ESPNOy Vey!
I just saw that.... What gives?
This is just insane. A Hollywood writer couldn't have come up with this script.
I think GB and Favre are still playing chicken. GB is putting Favre on ice, and eventually hoping the whole thing just ears him down, and he quits. According to ESPN, Favre and McCarthy (or was it Thompson?) agreed he won't practice today, because of the distraction. That's a mistake on Favre's part, even if it's the nice gesture. If he wants his freedom, or his starting job, then he needs to run out there with his helmet, and make the Pack deal with him. They have been stalling Favre, and in his effort to be a team guy, he is allowing it.I think Favre is allowing it partly because he isn't in a rush to disrupt things any more than he has, but also because he knows that he won't quit, and the Pack will have to deal with him eventually.Since this thing started, I had no idea which way this was going, but this latest development has me convinced that Favre is gone by Week 1.

Unbelievable. Vikings and Bears fans have to be :excited:  :excited: over this.
Look at Joe stirring the pot. It's hard enough already to wade through the slap fights in here.

"He has the right to play ball in 2008" <> "He has the right to start for the Packers in 2008"/conversation

I have zero interest in engaging with random GB fanatics who are dealing with crisis in uncool ways. I'll respond to the points I think are interesting. Please respect that.

TIA

No stirring here raider. I've been pretty clear on where I am on this in the email updates. The GM has one job: Put the best team he possibly can on the field.Any GM that thinks that team includes Aaron Rodgers over Brett Favre ought to resign. These guys are acting like high school kids. This isn't about ego. This isn't personal. This is business. And it appears to me that the Packers front office is unable to put personal aside and focus on the business. I guess it helps that they'll sell out no matter what kind of product they put on the field. But it's painful to watch these guys screw it up so badly.J

Does Ted Thompson not deserve some benefit of the doubt, given what he's accomplished so far in his tenure?

I'll pull up a chair then, and I hope it's still warm. But seriously, it was wide open and I am a sucker for the easy ones, I guess. I had a change of opinion after thinking about what Favre's ceiling is compared to Tarvaris', and I think that the first reaction of anyone who has conditioned themselves to hating Favre for over a decade coming to your team would be:  But then you have to think logically, is he better than what we have? Yes. Even if he fails, there was still a good chance that Tarvaris would fail as well. Given the choice, I will take the guy who has proven himself in the game over the guy who still has to grow. Then there's the added bonus of the fact that it's the last thing that any Packer fan would have guessed would happen, and the last thing they want. So there's the spite angle too, so all that outweighs having to have an indecisive, interception tossing, media whoring, whiny good ol' boy under center in Minnesota. Theoretically, of course.

I used to be indifferent about the NFC North. Now I have lost all respect for GB and Farve. Bottom of my list.

But Joe...I ask you this. Because IMO...its not just about putting the best team on the field this year. What if, they only get a 1 year commitment out of Brett. And then they don't make it to the Super Bowl...what then? Was it worth it to put the franchise back at least one year in development with a new QB just to give ol #4 one more shot to do what they could not do with him last year?Perhaps they see it as last year is all he can do with this current team...the best they could possibly do with Favre playing QB for this team.Like I have said...I had hoped they would open it up as I think he is the better QB for this year...but that is me thinking about this year. They do have to think beyond just one season.ETA: I think as much as we spend thinking about fantasy football...too many times we let that take over our thought process. As fans, we want our teams to sign just about everyone...basically trying to put together a fantasy football team...rather than an NFL football team.

Not anymore. If Favre plays for another team this year it will be the end for TT in Green Bay.

As a life-long Packer fan, the Packers will always be my #1 team, no matter what, but what is going on right now, i compare to the baseball strike. If they actually go through with trading/releasing/not starting Favre, it is going to leave a bad taste in my mouth that is going to take years to get over and to really become excited about the team again. If he goes to the Vikings, I will be rooting for him to crush us twice this year, and TT needs to be fired ASAP. Before anyone jumps on me for that, no, I am not going to get excited about the Packers making their team worse on purpose. How can any fan actually want that? The tide has definitley turned in Green Bay and Wisconsin -- go to any local message board and everyone is sick of TT and wants Favre back. Everyone I talk to (even those who used to be on TT's side), are now in Favre's corner as well.

I have changed a bit too.Mostly in that it took everything GB could do to get to that point last year...and they came up short. Its hard getting even that far...much less winning it all.Just look at NE. They are a better all around team than Minny even if Favre was there...yet they could not even do it.The chances of Favre actually holding it together with that coaching staff, and going through the season and winning it all are still very far out there. And while those chances/odds are something I don't want to really take...the reality is, it is still very unlikely he wins it all while there.Im over the "sit him and let him rot" stage...I just want football to get here...whether the Packers QB is #4 or #12.

Not necessarily. If Favre plays for another team and they flop and fail to do anything...would that vindicate Thompson? Many got on him for his handling of Javon Walker...but so far he appears to be dead on correct about that one. They got on him for letting Rivera go...again, good move.Same with Flannagan...Ahman Green.Only Mike Wahle went on to really do much after he left...well, Sharper too...but he was too pricey that year when they had no money (though, so was Wahle).

Im over the "sit him and let him rot" stage...I just want football to get here...whether the Packers QB is #4 or #12.

there is supposed to be a press conference in a couple of minutes - anybody with a link to the live conference?
"Favre told not to practice unless committed to Packers new direction at QB."No QB battle. Per ESPNOy Vey!
wow and I was kinda worried that the packers wised up
Unbelievable. Vikings and Bears fans have to be ;) :lmao: over this.
Look at Joe stirring the pot. It's hard enough already to wade through the slap fights in here.
That is correct. The minute Favre set foot in GB and the team stated they were welcoming him back changed this situation in a big way. I hope TT doesn't have a dog because that dog will probably be taken out like Dan Devine's dog did by some nut job. This will get very ugly for TT and I don't see how he can keep his job.

Yet...I would still much rather be a Packer fan than a fan of either of those teams.
I used to be indifferent about the NFC North. Now I have lost all respect for GB and Farve. Bottom of my list.

Not anymore. If Favre plays for another team this year it will be the end for TT in Green Bay.
The only way TT can be vindicated in this is if Favre flops and Rodgers/Packers have a great season. I'd put the chances of those things happening at under 25%.

IMO...many of those people are letting their emotions for Favre control their actions right now.And I don't want to jump on you for your comment...but why in the world would you want Favre to crush them twice?Im sorry...if he goes to Minny...I want him to flop. Its minny afterall...and he seems to have handpicked them before much of this really went down. I cannot excuse that and just hope he does well so a GM who has done a damn good job with this team can be fired. As much as I like Favre, I will never put him above the team.

So a guy celebrating a thug with that avatar is talking about losing respect for a team and a player? Umm...OK.No...its Sho Nuff in my avatar...the Shogun of Harlem.

You would risk them losing both Favre and Rodgers after next year for one more shot at glory? I'm not sure there is any question Favre is the better QB for this year, but I'm not sure putting him in there is in the best interest of the team long term.

Any GM that thinks that team includes Aaron Rodgers over Brett Favre ought to resign.
I'm pretty sure Ted Thompson is a lot closer to the situation, and has input from people who have been watching football for years, and are the best in the world at what they do.Could this be a childish act? Sure. But to say there's absolutely no chance that Rodgers is better, and putting out a sentence like you did above, is pretty ridiculous. Only the Packers really know how good Rodgers is at this point.

IMO...Favre has to win it all for him to be any real success anywhere he goes.If its GB and they don't win it all...it sets the team back in the development of Rodgers...and even Brohm for that matter as he would be limited to reps as the #3 guy.A SB for Green Bay is the only way it is really a success. Its a no win situation for all involved right now barring a SB win by Favre with GB(win for all), Favre with Minny (win for Favre loss for GB and TT), Rodgers with GB (loss for Favre)

Joe - Is it your experience selling boats or your extensive knowledge of fantasy football that entitles you to claim you know better than Thompson and McCarthy what is best for the Packers? On what basis can you make the bold and insulting accusation that Packers management will "sell out" and accept an inferior product on the field? I've followed the saga closely, and I do not believe that Favre is prepared to be a valuable team player for the Packers this season.

It will be all about the fans perception on how Favre does with another team and how Rodgers does. It will not take much to sway the opinion of the fans to support Favre and turn on TT. TT has made his bed in this and he better be prepared for how ugly it will get. I think if Favre goes to another team it will a longshot for TT to survive with his job.
