none of the above. the boxer is really good, but i think my favorite would be either america or richard cory.

Chose "Homeward Bound" but they had a ton of songs I like. Simon's writing could be a little (ok, a lot) pretentious & English-Lit-cute, but the singing makes up for it on their best records.

Poem on the underground wall, def. my favorite.

"And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding

The poem across the tracks rebounding

Shadowed by the exit light

His legs take their ascending flight

To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night."

I like Homeward Bound, Mrs. Robinson, I am a Rock, Bridge, and Cecelia, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be Mrs. Robinson. At the very least, that's the first song of theirs I remember hearing.

Other:

Old Friends - Bookends

Paul Simon is one the greatest lyricists of all time. And AG simply has a beautiful voice.

It's probably between Boxer and Sounds of Silence, but there are a lot of great songs to choose from. I guess I'll go Sounds of Silence, but it's close.

Other

Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard

Of the tracks listed.

Cecilia

ETA

My bad I think Me & Julio might be Paul Simon solo.

I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told

I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises.

All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear

And disregards the rest, hmmmm

When I left my home and my family, I's no more than a boy

In the company of strangers

In the quiet of the railway station, runnin' scared, laying low,

Seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go,

Looking for the places only they would know.

Li la li...

Asking only workman's wages, I come lookin' for a job,

But I get no offers,

Just a come-on from the whores on 7th Avenue.

I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome

I took some comfort there.

La la la...

And I'm laying out my winter clothes and wishing I was gone,

goin' home

Where the New York City winters aren't bleedin' me, leadin' me,

goin' home.

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade

And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him

'Til he cried out in his anger and his shame

I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains.

Li la li...

Big S+G fan.

I'd have to say my favorite is pretty obscure:

The Only Living Boy in New York off of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Just a beautifully crafted pop song and overshadowed by all the hits on that album.

12 posts before the dreaded "complete lyrics to a song" post. Not bad.

"Cecelia" is my favorite off of the list, although I also like "My Little Town" quite a bit.

Back in college I had a '69 Camaro with an 8-track and a S&G's Greatest Hits cassette. I think it would shift tracks in the middle of "Sounds" or "Bridge" and ruin the song with a big "ka-thunk", but otherwise that cassette was da bomb.

Whoever mentioned "Julio", I think that was early solo Simon and fromm that period I also like the song from One Trick Pony, "Late in the Evening"

"So I learned to play some lead guitar,

I was underage in some funky bar

And I stepped outside to smoke myself a J"

Relatively surprised to see S&G fans here. Loved them. It was always The Boxer, but I heard Bridge the other day and it has been so long that I moved it up my list to the top.

It's a good choice. When that song hits the "Sail on Silvergirl" verse towards the end with the harmonies and orchestral swell and piano, it's among the most beautiful pieces of music ever.

Bridge is great. Actually think Elvis did a great version of it on That's The Way It Is. One of the last songs that Elvis sang during his last concert...

Wow...I'm going to have to dig out my greatest hits CD...

"Cecilia" for me...just a fun song.

..."makin love in the afternoon, with Cecilia up in my bedroom."

 I'm listening to it right now. No matter how many times I hear it, that part gives me goosebumps.

Art Garfunkel had a beautiful voice.

Having a hard time between The Boxer, Scarborough Fair, Mrs. Robinson, Sounds of Silence and Bridge OTW.

All time great duo.

i am older than i once was

and younger than i'll be that's not unusual.

Fixed. Those lyrics were left out of the studio cut, but they always sang/sing that verse live.

I got up to wash my face, when I come back to bed Someones taken my place

Hubby and I like very different music but SnG is where we come together.

Another vote for Feelin Groovy (59th St Bridge song) but I'll always have fond memories of being about 6 and my dad explaining who Rosemary's friends (Scarborough Fair) were and why they had strange names.
