Favre Wanted The Packers To Sign TO (1 Viewer)

Well maybe the homer in me Yellow guy. I think the Packers can compete this year. They just need to fill a few holes. LB/OG/CB look to be the big ones and maybe WR depending on how the Walker situation plays out. I think LB or OG could be addressed in draft in 2nd round. One taken care of. Walker situation is POS Thompson doing his job and smoothing things over. Use the word money in the talks. :) Now LB/CB or both can be taken care of in FA if they want and this team will be pretty good. Plus still add in the 1.5(hope Williams. Dont mind Brick or Hawk) or maybe trade down and fill the needs of CB/LB there. But than maybe me just dreaming but I see alot of pieces. And not saying dont build through the draft. Is the goal to have another top 5 pick next year for Thompson. Is that how you build through the draft. Brett has been forthcoming with the Packers. In his shoes, I dont want to play just to play. Elway did not have to do that. I want another Super Bowl. Why cant Thompson do his job and make a decision. Why keep putting the deadline back. Either give him his 3 and hope he does come back or cut him. And the more I read on this board, the more I put this all on Thompson. Might be in the minority but that is the way it will be.

You know the more I look at this situation the more I think Favre is giving TT as much time as possible to make some impact moves. Favre wants to play, just not for what he sees as a sub standard team.

We can debate if this is an honorable move on Favre's part or not (waiting for the Team to improve), but I truly think this is why Favre is dragging it out.
Someone pinch me, this has to be a dream. ;)
Wanna :argue: whether or not this is an honorable way for Favre to be conducting himself? :stirspot:

I've followed Packer football my whole life, but I see it as more than just a few holes.Look at WR? Ferguson has never been the same since the Darius hit. Walker doesn't want to be here. Murphy is likely done for good. And Gardner couldn't stick anywhere he's been. That leaves Driver. That's it.

I like the young talent they have on the O line, a lot. But, they're just that. Young. It takes years to build up continuity on an O line. You don't just plug in young or new guys and have them gel.

They have one legit linebacker right now. One. Ben Taylor might be OK. And quite honestly, I dislike Lavarr Arrington a great deal. On a young team, you don't need disruptive freelancers, which is about all Arrington is. Ain't looking good.

I think they have good safties, but they are awfully thin at corner. Al Harris is nice, but he ain't getting any younger. Carrol can't stop holding, and will likely never be what Sherman had hoped. Who else is there?

The D line is the one place I actually think it pretty solid.

And it's good that you bring up Elway, because the running back that took him over the top was a sixth round draft pick.

This is starting to remind me of the years in which the Washington media (especially John Thompson) would ask Lavar Arrington about what player moves he'd like to see, as if he was qualified.

I'm not sure Brett would be as good a GM as Arrington, though. Lavar can make up his mind.
According to local Sporstalk 980 AM (DC/MD/VA Suburbs), LaVar Arrington has asked to speak to Brett Favre about his future plans before continuing his current discussions with the Packers......sorry, no link, just heard this in a newsbreak at around 1:30

PM today...
That was also confirmed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=415155
Exactly, Favre is hurting the FA process more than helping it by not saying he's coming back.
I disagree. Players have shown and will continue to show that they will go where the money is. TT and the Packers have plenty of cap space. TT is being frugal and doesn't want to deviate from his master plan of building through the draft. Bottom line - If you pay them, they will come (and play).

“He didn’t even pick up a phone as a leader and call Javon. Never has he once called Javon. He didn’t have to go to the media.
Neither did Javon...first...both times.
Javon didn't open his mouth and criticize Favre to the media and fans. He had no reason to call Favre.
He took his situation to the media...twice.Then whines if anyone else comments on his now public situation?

Had he wanted his situation to be private...he should have kept it that way.

Obviously you can throw obscene amounts of money at players and they will sign, however, you won't have much luck signing a good player to a reasonable contract when the organization doesn't even know where it's headed.

Is Favre really holding GB hostage?

Why don't the Packers go get a veteran backup/stopgap QB right now?

Someone like Tommy Maddox, Tony Banks, Jeff Balke, or hell even Vinny T.

All of these guys have starting experience, are affordable, and would jump at the chance to extend their careers. All of them have experience backing up a young QB, which is what they'd be doing in 2007. If Brett comes back you have three QBs who can play. One HOFer, one vet to mentor and one 2nd year guy looking to learn and eventually take over.

Who is GB waiting for?

Steve Mcnair is probably going to get cut and go to the Ravens or stay with the Titans for less.

Collins is waiting on Baltimore and McNair, but you can't tell me Green Bay is second on the list ahead of Miami and Cinn. Even if Harrinton wound up in one of those places, Collins would probably want to go to a team that is ready to compete.

They could do this and take the pressure off of themselves, Favre, and Rogers.

I just don't get it. :wall:

Why sign the guys you mentioned now...when they will be available in June?

You could take your pick now. There is a chance other teams will round out their roster after the draft possibly driving up the price on these retreads.I like Maddox as a stop gap.

If the Packers take a QB on the first day someone should be fired.

Its hard to say about this story. Its easy to bring this out now that TO is in Dallas. If it came down to it, would Favre really want TO around for an entire season?

Who knows, he cannot even decide if he wants to be around for another season.

Take the pick of a bunch of guys that in all liklihood will not be signed before June anyway? Why not wait and see with Favre? These guys will not be gone too soon. The only way I see the Packers taking a QB early is if Rodgers is traded.
