FBG Contest Semi-Live Scoring (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys,

I made an app to track my player progress for the FBG 35k contest this year. I've decided to open it up for others in this contest.

I've posted it to a couple of leagues I am in and only had a few people sign up to test it, so I need a couple more testers before I release it to everyone (probably this week).

Basically, I am pulling the stats every 15 minutes, then processing them to the FBG scoring 5 minutes later. So we are on a 15-20 minute update.

I've added most of the players availiable in the contest, but if I missed someone on your team, just post here and i'll add them.

I dont have any logic in place yet to figure your final score, but you'll get a pretty accurate unofficial score for each of your players.

Ok, I got some good feedback and took care of some of the easy stuff.

In the first year we did this type of contest (4 years ago I think?), FBG posted the entire contest roster in an Excel file. It was a bit of a chore, but I was able to load that data and import a stat page to score the full contest myself. Stedman would post the early/late game stat file and I would live score SNF/MNF and post significant jumps here in the forums. While my results were not final (there were some bugs to the process that caused me to miss by a tenth or 2 on occasion, but I always found them and fixed them), they gave a pretty decent indicator of when your time was up. It only took me about 20 mins to load the stat files, and that was only slowed down by how the data came to me and needed to get altered to score right.I know FBG has a lot more important stuff to attend to, like getting us our player info (thanks for that btw!), but I'm sure there would be plenty of volunteers that could handle the task of contest scoring if given the right info. Even if it's not official, its apparent that there is significant interest in knowing how we are doing.

Its basically this > you register > login > add all players on your team > see how they are doing .

Eagerly awaiting the general availability of the application.

I have not seen the beta version, but....given the fact that the application is aware of 'all' teams, it would be cool if the app would also show your current ranking at any given moment.

I dont have the functionality for ranking etc now.It gives the users the ability to add the players on their team and is independant of what FBG has.

Stats are pulled from an outside source and process with the FBG scoring rules and then once you tell it who is on your team, it will display their scores.

I would like to add that finctionality in the future, but currently I am not doing anything to access the FBG site. (maybe a XML feed from Joe would make this possible?)

Thanks to those who are sending me info on missing players or incorrect scores, it has helped identify a couple of issues with the app and some have been resolved while others I am still trying to determine where the issue is.

Can you please list what FBG has for their scores?I just doublechecked and all of my kicker scores line up (rackers/elam) and I looked at Hanson for week 4.He hit a 49 yard FG - 5 points and 4 XP's - 4 points - He shows the correct score of 9 when I added him.

If FBG can't/won't post the full contest lineup to you, how difficult would it be to just run "projected cutoff" with the population you have in your database? I know it wouldn't be perfect, but if enough teams give you rosters, it would be an indicator of scoring for the week.

So in order to add this as a potential future I will have to add some to my DB and change some code around.. Not a huge amount of work, but something I didnt plan for when I started this.I will probably move towards something like this anyway because I will probably need to in order to highlight the top scorers etc..

Looks pretty cool even if it doesn't give us break points.. It saves me from having to do the work myself. Besides we usually get a preliminary update as to the break after the Sunday night game anyway. Thanks for setting this up though. lots less work for some of us now.

Thanks again for your efforts. Agreed that if the population isn't significantly large (like +10% of the live entires) it could be misleading. I'd think that as this picks up steam though it wouldn't be too far fetched to hit that number.Have you tried PMing Drinen/Dodds/Bryant to see how interested they would be in your work? If you showed a live scoring application that was 90% complete and capable of generating moving live cutoff numbers, FBG may take it and run with it (and maybe you could get some compensation too!)

Yeah, I agree on the percentage.Also, Joe knows about it, we didnt discuss them using the system or anything, I just PM'ed him to make sure there were no conflicts with me posting about it here.

Bumping this for your scoring RB's get points for receptions and yardage... Chris Brown should be over 10 points if i looked up right... 2.7 rushing+6 for td+ 1 for recepts +.7 for recieiving yards.
