The board cluttered with rankings cause some ideas to pop into my head.
Here we go: The FBG FF Marketplace.
(I wish I was as comfortable with my webskills as I have been in the past so I'd make a good sample)
This is what I'm thinking:
Why not let there be a user created ranking list. The goal would be to let users see what the current value for players are. There is so much clutter of rankings and this would help bring a consensus. Also, this would help people value and have more info going into the ###. Coach forum. Clearly, there are benefits to FBG as a company as well.
The idea is inline with the way the web is going. User created content, etc. Look at wikipedia, and many more sites like it.
The real question about it is, how do you implement a system like this? Let's break it into two categories:
(1) Let the loyal members of FBG vote. This idea is very simple to implement. Here, one idea would be to add a page for FBG Marketplace Rankings. The page, on its very inception, could be the FBG staff created ranking. (I created a sample of this HERE) The only difference would be links on the right side to say "UP/DOWN/HOLD" or "BUY/SELL/HOLD" or something similar. The pressure of people "buying" and "selling" or really, pushing "up" or "down" would force the rankings to change in real time.
There is a lot more to it than that though. I guess maybe each user could be limited to one vote per player per week (or per day?). Then FBG would have to decide how players switch actual positions because this could get out of hand (switches too quickly, too much based on one game, etc. Are these markets really evident of what people think? Or, does man-love for certain guys get things too out of hand?)
A concern would be are there enough people voting? I never knew how many FBG members there are until I saw how many people kicked my butt in the subscriber contests. There are a lot of FBG faithfuls and I *really* believe this idea would have LOTS of voters, likely taking things seriously.
Of course, if its the game/competitiveness that makes FBG faithfuls picking their teams for these contests, maybe this next option is a good choice.
(2) A game idea. There are games on the internet that are like this. Hollywood stock exchange among others. This would be a lot for FBG to implement, but you could create an entire market of buying and selling. In a way, it's like the FBG contests, but after values have gone up or down there can be trades, etc. The "value" that is made on the buyers and sellers can determine the value/ranking of the players.
This is way more complex, so I won't go into details of how I'd implement this.
So here are some ideas to make FBG into even more of a giant than it is. The first is something I could see being implemented very, very quickly. It would give users a great idea of values, would make more people be subscribers, and would give a lot more traffic to the website.
The second, honestly, is something that could revolutionize the game. It's a very cool idea for any site, but I think FBG has the infrastructure to do it quicker than most.
Thoughts?
