FBG Suggests Texans Might Start to Rest Foster (1 Viewer)

So was a little surprised to see Foster as a downgrade this week, with the reasoning being that now that Houston has locked up the division they might start resting Foster in favor of Tate.

I was a bit surprised to read this given that the Texans aren't even a lock for a bye at this point. Why would they start resting players?

I know Tate is a very competent backup but is this thought process rooted in any reality or merely FBG speculation?

Obviously anyone who owns Foster will be starting him, just found this curious.

Not this early. Theres still 3 weeks to go and they are playing for a bye. Now if they clinch a bye or cant get a bye and its weel 16 maybe some concern and week 17 absolutley he might get less carries. He should be ready for a full workload this week. Dont forget Foster missed a couple of games. ( I think 3or 4) he has not played a whole season.

Barring someone here being part of the Texans organization, it would be speculation at this point. And granted, that's what subscribers are paying for, the speculation of what people will perform.

I think Houston will do most everything they can to win still... even if a bye isn't at stake, you also probably would rather face the Jets or other 2nd wildcard than you would the Steelers or Ravens, so will want to at least by the #3 seed.

Now could they shift some carries to Tate and still do that? And could one believe it could make sense, lowering risk of injury to Foster plus giving you more time to evaluate what you have in Tate? Sure, I could see that happening.

So I don't think it's a given Foster will be rested, but I don't think it's unreasonable if someone thinks that is how it will break out. Since it is a new risk, if everything else about Foster's situation were equal he should be downgraded some. How far is another matter for debate.

Interesting. And yet no mention of downgrading Aaron Rodgers, who actually has been rested for almost an entire half in week 14.
They're looking to go undefeated. Totally different story.
Rodgers sat almost a half, and they still won. Could happen again. Plus they lost a top receiver in the process. Just saying if you're going to speculate Foster might sit and warrant a downgrade, maybe also look at players who have already sat - and put up a sub-par score for their owners in a playoff week. Could happen again just as likely as Foster getting a rest.I don't think its a big deal, just commenting on how there's pure speculation for one player and over look another that's already sat and is going to be without a top receiver. No owner is going to bench either at this point.

So... those that have Foster should sit him on their benches? Unless Foster is hurt... no one is keeping him out of their line-ups.

Why is it that clinching the division leads people to assume Foster will rest? What about New England and Baltimore and Pittsburgh and first-round byes? Does anyone think Houston wants to play Week One of the playoffs? I see four teams with 10-3 records, and three of them have two losses within the conference.

Any starter on any team might sit with a 38-7 lead with 3:30 left in the 3rd. It has nothing to do with resting for the playoffs.

The game dictated that, not the playoff situation. When you have a team up that much, it is normal for the qb to sit, whether its week 4 or week 14.

FBG is probably extrapolating since Foster's carries went down each of the weeks since he had 30 touches.

People completely missed my point. Oh well. FWIW, I agree with all the comments. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of singling out Foster. He seems to be the only player earning a downgrade at any position due to 'resting' concerns.I'm certainly not advocating resting any stud. Carry on.

He's playing an awful, awful run defense this week?

If anything, I'm UPGRADING him this week.

They dont need to pass the ball to beat the Panthers with their run D.

Ben Tate should have a good week as well.

Houston needs to try and win out to get a 1st round bye if possible. That would help counter some of the injuries. If they lose or are locked in as the #3 seed next week then I could see them resting him a little more.

By the way, other factors that may affect Foster... the Texans lost their right guard with a broken leg. The replacement has played before and done well, but something to factor in.
