Arizona Chupacabra
Tonight should be a special night. I should have my kids gathered around the tv to possibly see the biggest record in sports history tied. Instead I am in my back office with it on a little tv and I am not even mentioning it to my kids. My twelve year old son is not into sports the way I am but I always make sure he is there when something "special" is going to happen. I explain to him what makes it special etc... He likes that and those times are special in my memories and I hope someday they will be in his to.

Not this one though. I guess I have to hope I am alive when A rod breaks the record. Maybe I will be able to watch that with my adult son and hopefully a grandson.

#### you barry.

Gimme a break, they weren't doing testing. Are you seriously arguing that he didn't use steroids? You're obviously deliberately ignoring all the evidence that clearly confirms that he was a juicer.

You should have your son there with you. Let him decide later if Bonds is a fraud on his own. Just like church, make him go until he is old enough to make his own decision whether to go or not.

Just because his feet grew 3 sizes in his 30's and his head grew a couple inches doesn't prove anything. I honestly just want the hype to be over.
You're right, it doesn't prove anything. The other mountain of evidence of BALCO distribution records and associations, along with the body changes, along with his power distribution numbers that changed...he was a juicer of both Deca and HGH, this much is absolutely certain.

Do you think Bonds will sit out all away games until he gets his hits?
That would be the ### thing to do, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he sat out the majority of the next two series. Prolly some mysterious knee discomfort will suddenly crop up.

;) The Giants are Bonds and nothing else this year. The SF fans are the only people on the planet stupid enough to still cheer for the jerk. He's hit ALL his big HRs in SF, 755/756 will be no different.Hell, he might not even take the road trip (except that he lives in LA during the off season.)If he steps into the box at Dodger Stadium with 755/756 on the line I hope the Dodger pitchers throw right at his ####### head!

Why is everybody so sure that Arod isnt using any performance enhancing drugs?

Why does everybody assume that Arod will take down all these records?

Everybody isn't so sure he isn't.The assumption is based on the youngest to 500. Time is on his side.

Just a thought as I read this thread. Back in 01, when Bonds was threatening McGwire's season HR record, I took my two kids to Montreal to see the Giants-Expos series. In all seriousness, there was maybe 2,000 people on hand for each game. During the second game of the series, Bonds was walking out to left field during warm ups and my daughter ran down to the edge of the field to get his attention. There were no other kids around (or anybody else) and she smiled and waved to him. He looked over and then looked away. When he was done with warm ups he was slowly walking back to the visitors dug out and my daughter took out her pen and ball. As he is strolling by she very politely looks at him and says, "Mr. Bonds would you please sign my ball?" He stopped looked at her and said, "Sorry kid I don't do autographs," and continued to the dugout.

At that point, I lost all respect for him. Regardless of whether or not he did steroids, the guy is a piece of garbage and I believe you reap what you sow.

For sure those type of stories , which there are many of, add to the hate. If he was a decent guy I dont think I would feel as bad as I do about it.

I can understand his position on not wanting to sign autographs before a game or something but he was just a smug ### about it. I remember feeling cheated out of a moment watching one of the all time greats taking the time to walk over and at least interact with my daughter by signing her ball. It tainted the excitement I felt about the game. Of course less than a month later the World Trade Center was attacked and baseball/Bonds record chase/World Series took a back seat to our time of need as a nation.

I agree with you here Pros. If Bonds was not such a self-centered jerk I would be embracing his tying and breaking this record whole lot more than I am. At least Giambi had the Sack to apologize and basically admit he was using EVEN THOUGH we all knew he was anyway, and when he did it, it was not illegal. That does not make what he did right, heck, a lot of pitchers were juicing as well, but at least he could admit he did it.

Bonds almost certainly cheated. Bonds is an #######.

It's still a pretty significant moment in baseball history. Maybe THE significant moment.

Even if A-Rod did roids? That would be the ultimate example of irony; pure as it gets.

Nope. If he did roids, then he wouldn't be the rightful owner of anything, just the same as Bonds.

Yeah, sure.
Several possibilities to interpret a "yeah, sure" response. All I know is that the context in which Bonds is about to break Hank's record (and, presuming ARod also juiced, the context that follows him too) is plenty enough for me to carve out special exceptions in his case for not being the HR King. I know I know...and Ben Johnson was the fastest man alive, we learned several years ago. But, in reality, he really wasn't. Same with Bonds (and ARod, if...).

How long to you think it will take ARod to break this record? And do you really want your son to have kids when he's only 20?

The way Bonds is scraching to a halt, I'd guess he'll end up with around 770 HRs.ARod just turned 32. He's just hitting his prime. If he hits 20 more this season, he will have 520.

If he averages 40 per season for the next few years, he would have 720 after the 2012 season. He will be 37.

IF he stays healthy, I would think that he should be right around Bonds' total somewhere in the 2013 or 2014 season.

With that scenario, we will only have to tolerate an imposter holding teh record for seven years.

I'm all for having a seperate board for baseball topics, but Bonds being one HR away from tying Aaron makes this topical enough to be on the Free For All board.

Nothing's better than a little Bonds-discussion among casual fans. Only diehards post over here.
